Alone on a Mountain Hike in Beautiful Light

Hiking alone in the mountains in winter is an absolute treat. I follow the ridge to the summit of Kings Peak where I have panoramic views of the nearby mountains, islands, lakes and of course the ocean. The sun has just returned to Lofoten, so the sun was only visible when I started my hike and I could see it slowly dip below the horizon about an hour later when I reached the summit.
This mountain does require some scrambling to get to the top, at least now when the summit is glazed in ice and covered with snow. On a dry summer day it’s easier, but some parts are perhaps too steep for some.

So here we are again Kristian, but this time i'm sitting outside, resting my legs on my "huggestabbe" and warming my feet from the heat of the fire pit and doing some woodwork. Amazing to see those winter landscapes. And the sound you bring with the picture made it just a little bit colder outside 🔥Nice to see you are getting more attention for your videos mate. The spikes you use? what brand are those? Mine are not going all the way on top of the boot, they stay more on the side if that make sense? (Chainsen) or what they are called. Great as always my friend. Oooohhh... that waterbottle cut... smooth man 👏🏻It would be great fun to see you behind the scenes sometimes. Another amazing video, thank you 👏🏻

Man, you are really putting in the hours on your woodwoorking! And you can tell by the results you are getting! You'll soon have to start a business. 😄 Thank you! The microspikes are Grivel Ran Light. Microspikes and sizing isn't easy. Depends so much on the boot size, boot shape and so on, and I imagine you'll have difficulties finding the right size. To me it seems like the recommended sizes for the Snowline Chainsen microspikes are too small, which is probably why people experience that the rubber breaks. Mine were too large, so after this hike I've actually modified them to fit tighter around the front part of the boot, which makes them tighter overall. I also sharpened the spikes, but to be honest I should have had crampons for this hike because of the ice and scrambling (I didn't film most of it). So I've ordered some extra parts for my telemark crampons so that I can use them instead on steep terrain like this. You know, I've heard that Lofoten is great for motorcycle touring, so you're more than welcome to see some behind the scenes when you're up here! 😄 As always, thanks for the support! 🙏🏻

@@KristianPletten Yeah, with 48 in shoe size, spikes like this is hard to find in the correct sizing 🤣I'm planing a trip up North early june, and will try to spend most of the time around Lofoten, Senja and Andøya (i think) I will make sure to reach out to you. Would be great to see how you work 👏🏻 Yeah, i'm in quarantine for 7 days, and I have a leg that are not healed right. So i have to spend most of my hours stuck at home. So, i rather spend time outside doing new stuff. And Woodwork is really fun. WIn win 🤣

Haha, that's what I figured! Oh, that sounds like a great trip. Yes, do get in touch. If there's anything I can help with in regards to planning you should also just ask! Ah, gotcha. Hope it'll heal quickly so you can get back out there, although woodworking is not a bad alternative! Look forward to see more of it!

@@KristianPletten I really appreciate that mate... Will get back to you on that when it's getting close. It is so easy to trow away you free time on crap that does not give anything back. So instead of looking into the Television or the computer, i spend the time "extra" on learning something new 🔥

This looks wonderful! Have just found your channel and will definitely watch more! I have a question for you: how do you like the jacket from klättermusen? I've been thinking about buying it, but am concerned about the breathability when hiking and sweating a lot...Thanks for great videos!
@KristianPletten
@KristianPletten 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Hanna for your kind comment! 🙏🏻 I've had the Klättermusen Allgrön 2.0 jacket for about four months now, and so far I really like it. As with most three layer shell garments they don't really breathe much, and I would say it's roughly the same as any other three layer shell garment I've owned. Some brands do promote waterproofness and breathability a lot more, and it would seem like they are better, but my experience is that they are roughly the same in practical terms. You really have to choose either breathability or waterproofness, and if you choose both you'll have to accept a compromise of the two. I've chosen the compromise because of the fast changing weather here in Lofoten, and solved the breathability issue by either hiking slow and using the arm pit vents (usually what I'll do if I'm on a multi day hike), or just have an extra wool base layer and change when needed (usually on day hikes like this one). Just a tip: Recently I've started using a two layered sweater from Brynje called Arctic Polo Zip. It's got a layer of mesh on the inside that moves the sweat away from the body and out towards the outer layer of wool. The mesh on the inner layer also form air pockets which traps heat, so when I use it I don't feel sweaty at all and when I stop to take a break I don't get cold as I would with just a single layer. Probably my favorite piece of clothing at the moment!
