correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt this alpha limited access only? for those who paid it wont make a difference if another game launches, and for those who didnt.... well... they wont have access anyway this alpha is a huge milestone for streamers from an information and access point of view, but for the average player it has little to no value, most of us will only be seeing the content trough twitch and YT, i don't think the actual number of players will vary much wether they delay it or not

I have access to alpha 2. I do not have eyes an any of those games. I currently play wow. But again, every game played is place holder until Ashes. I cannot speak for all those who have access to Alpha 2. But I can confidently assume that those I know 30+ people with access to alpha 2 are the same and think the same. So we want Alpha 2. Also I like some ones comment below. It would be some fearless and a show of confidence.

As some others say, since Alpha 2 is locked behind a steep paywall, the people who bought it are most likely going to try it regardless of other releases, if anything it may be a good thing that some of the audience takes their eyes off briefly in case Alpha 2 is far buggier than anticipated.

@@MannequinMeat wouldn't matter. there's nothing about a WoW expansion that would impact a paid alpha test in the slightest. anyone that would be participating in alpha 2 has already paid for it. if some that paid for alpha 2 also play the WoW expansion as well, so what. doesn't matter. The impact on WoW could be relentless though if the public is seeing A2 gameplay videos at the same time people are doing a WoW expansion. It would be in AoC's best interest to start A2 before or at the same time as the WoW expansion. It couldn't harm AoC at all, but could raise interest. It would almost certainly impact WoW down the line as interest shifts from WoW to AoC.

There will be downtime for patches, maintenance, resets and maybe (we havent heard yet) a2 is only up for a couple days at a time for the first few weeks or months. We have no idea yet ._. They've said the a2 server will be their testing server for everything they test but not that it would be online until launch. There will be plenty of downtime.) t.t

Don't delay. Intrepid Studios said they won't miss dates again once they give them. They said Q3 for AoC A2 so hit that mark. Give confidence in your AoC community that you can hit the dates you set from now on by setting a good track record early.

Dont delay. Alpha 2 at launch is only available to those that bought the insanely expensive packs, and that kind of investment ensures those people will show up regardless of anything else releasing in that time. And since it will not be NDA'd, the ensuing content will be better marketting than money could buy, leading (hopefully) to even more increased interest by the community

Ashes is taking so long to release and to even just release a open beta/alpha that im slowly losing my hope in it... im hoping the game has a lot of good stuff in it like world drops from world bosses and just normal mobs to make it worth for people to farm lets say wolves in a certain area to have a chance at some rare crafting drops or equipment

This is not the first week of the mmo. I think it good that it is sharing the release with other games. People will play the other games, hate them, then come to Ashes once the initial alpha bugs get smashed. The betas are where the game will want to blow up in hype.

I don't think they should delay an alpha due to other live products. No doubt it would have some impact on Alpha 2 player numbers, but it is buy-in to play, not open to the public, so i think the impact would be minimal. Especially when retail wow and T&L look meh.

Counter conspiracy. Historically, WoW expansions drop between Aug and Dec. Intrepid is aware of this and they basically picked Q3 to either have an excuse to delay because lord knows they suck at meeting deadlines, or they're looking to directly challenge.

Delaying it would be a pretty big a PR hit after all this time, and after all those A2 testers shelled out hundreds of shekels for a key. IMO it's best not to delay it. You will lose a few testers temporarily to these other launches, but let's not kid ourselves, those will be dead within 6 months if not sooner. A2 is a long-term thing, they've got plenty of time to roll out updates and rekindle interest.

The only problem is that the launch of other MMORPGs detracts from the visibility and prominence of Ashes of Creation. But honestly, I wouldn't worry if it were Steven, in the end the one who has pre-purchased AoC wants to play the Alpha 2 and it's clear that it's a testing phase, with bugs, wipes, etc. So the player will probably end up playing A2 strongly for a month and then try other things while they add more content to Alpha 2. At least the clans are not going to leave AoC aside to play other games, at most more solitary players.

Honestly I dont hold a alpha to the same regard as a actual release like TL. Will still play the alpha 2 and look forward to it but dont hold myself back from enjoying new releases for mmo's. Also recommend anyone to look into TL development as a lot has changed since being released in KR as a lot of feedback the testers have given has been used to make the game better. Would break it down here but it is a lot so recommend researching for yourselves.

Honestly, the thing that will most likely drive AoC apart from all other releases is its monetization policy - that is as long as they can (at the very least) meet every other major player in the market equally in terms of combat, gameplay loop, progression fantasy, and game systems.

I am excited for Ashes. I backed at the Alpha 1 tier but I do not expect Ashes of Creation to do well at all. I think the first month maybe two will be huge and then it will drop off fast. I think ending at numbers that New World currently has. PVP MMO's do not do well on the market and players prove time and time again that they are more keen on PVE content. Solo play. No stress. Ashes is not going to change these peoples minds. I hope to be wrong but this has been my feeling since backing the Kickstarter

This topic is an important one and will cause everyone on the spectrum to have a reaction. I think timing this out is hard, while i agree the Q3 Market is rather crowded with things and make it hard to shine i personally think that there is maybe one title that may pull people, T&L. While many have played this title, some have not and may be pulled to it to find out if its good or not. I think Ashes needs to have another moment much like its 1st big spike as you said in this video. I think A2 needs to launch when its ready and as polished as it can be and have their " Big D" energy flop right on out on it all. And we the community who have been huffing the good stuff need to push Steven's fine fine product to the masses as you so put it. If they back away from another clear shot across the bow it may to some appear weak or worried about other titles. However this launch needs to be careful as it can only launch once and cant be a flop. Delaying the A2 while being a safer bet to reach the masses, etc will also have a negative effect of it being a delay. No one including Dev, players, and studios like delays and they inherently come with a stigma of bad game, poor devs, or another garbage studio pushing a junk product on us. Intrepid should stay the course and hold fast, Deliver a good product for the community to get hands on and in a time frame they set. This will instill positive grounds for everyone as they will hold to their word and show how their title is what we all want it to be. The Title we have all been waiting for.

There's a lot of potential to take the wind out of WoW, TL, or other game's sails by releasing A2 after people have gotten their hands on and experienced them. As people's excitement begins to wane, AoC A2 can come in and flex what it can be and how it's better than the status quo, even as just an alpha.

A2 must be a priority anyways for the testers, delaying 1 month doesnt seem legit. (i am not even a tester). No one will remember if A2 delayed 1 month maybe is better for logistic reasons, or a good excuse if they are not ready yet. nah the backlash from a delay would be more impactful than releasing into the WOW expansion. Especially since the audience for A2 and this WOW expansion likely only have a small overlap it wouldn't be a big deal. Still that assumes they were wanting to release it is August and not later.

Weeeeell, maybe it turns out that the rouge is soooo close to be ready for playing that they want to delay the Alpha launch just a bit. *wink wink* And I wouldn't be angry if they just came out and straight up said "these count as big events as previously mentioned, so we have to delay." A month of more development before the Alpha launch won't make the game worse. But ultimately, if Ashes were able to steal the hype by not avoiding the competition, that would be a HUGE boost.

There is a lot of Games coming out in Q3 and i myself have thought about the pros and cons of releasing the Alpha 2 in Q3 or pushing to Q4. Ultimatly I wont play the other game coming out on their release. Not because i am not interested in them but more because my gaming circle dont have the time at present to play them. They are actually all waiting for A2 to release so they can come to my place and try the game out while we put the smoker on and cook up a feast one weekend. End of the day it is a Alpha test. I would like to think at least 50% of the key holders actually understand this and that they are not playing a game persua but testing a game to help build it into the best it can be. An option could be for the game to have several servers launch in Q3 with an NDA.....so the few of us who dont care about the other games can still get in as the plan is but then do a full no NDA start of Q4 where the Q3 testers can now talk but it populates several other servers and even complete a server wipe for the soft launch ones in Q3 and everyone is back at the same.......But what would i know i am just some aussie guy who like you is desperate for a good MMO to fill that void in my life.

definitely don't delay, I feel the hype has gained enough traction (as of now) amongst gamers to still be curious about said games but still hungry for ashes of creation to drop. The trash games will expose themselves. With ashes of creation, they've done so well getting big time streamers involved like asmon, tim and others, not to mention youtubers like yourselves keeping the community somewhat satiated with your content. The growth of your channel proves this to be the case. congrats on almost 60k btw. Also, with the delays of alpha 1 and how empathetically frustrated the community got, along with the "non-believers," I'm not quite sure delaying A2 would be a good look. The only thing I want is that Alpha 2 to be announced by exact date at least 2 Months prio so I can tell my employer to fuck off (so to speak) on and around that date. Also Pro Tip for Steven: If you announce a Alpha at the end of the year for the first Quarter of the year not only have you people being more indoors but also they gamer dads have the time where they will plan their holidays. So if you announce Alpha 2 in the 3rd of 4th Quarter for a exact date in the first Quarter of 2025 you will hit peak efficiency. Just sayin.

People experiencing the vision of AoC in this ALPHA should blow other releases out of the water. Sharing a release date with games that dissapoint us will highlight AoC's promise. It will ALSO bring more people to these finished games, showing what a force Intrepid is for the MMORPG genre as a whole. I dont see this as a reason to delay. If anything, a delay will hurt people's belief in the project.

Maybe its actually a good thing, though. Maybe a lot of players will skip out on the early part of alpha (more the viewing rather than the alpha key holders)and play some dog shit and then come and see what a real game has to offer. By that time it will be more flushed out and create more hype for the people that arent hardcore following it? Could happen completely as you said as well and be bad for the game, as you made some valid points.. I just dont know. I'm fine with whatever Intrepid decides though.

Better to front run TL release given alpha 2 on release may lack longevity for the type of players who would consider leaving to play something else anyways. Player retention for TL will be abysmal and players would then have the chance to return to ashes upon the first alpha 2 update. Also I'm not convinced the majority of A2 key holders would be interested in other games given the choice It makes sense to me that most people buying an alpha key for $250 has not done so on a whim and knows what it is they want. There are no alternatives to date. In terms of mindshare in the larger mmo community you have a point that A2 could be glazed over in generic mmo news video's perhaps with a flurry of releases back to back but AoC have the advantage here where everything with A2 updates will be new and unseen whilst all of TL is existing and known, not much exciting stuff to cover in terms of news after launch week.

Paying for games to be developed is silly. I’ll purchase it when it has a proper release if it seems good. I am over giving these companies money to sell me a product at a later date. It’s a shit business practice and should be illegal. Turning customers into some sort of weird investors where instead of stock you get to beta test their products for no money to you but you get to pay them to work is just dumb.

Why is this even a subject? It's an Alpha launch... It does not matter AT ALL which date they decide to launch it on because Intrepid are not making a profit from it. There are no marketing dollars behind A2. Intrepids target audience until actual launch of game is not new players, it’s existing fans and fans who have bought into the packs. So it really doesn’t matter which date they decide to release alpha 2.

I think the other MMO releases should be irrelevant to when Ashes of Creation releases Alpha 2. The only reason it should be delayed is if it isn't ready. The player base will naturally be higher and go down with time with the exception of major updates or when it releases

I’m not sure if Narc realizes that only an insanely tiny portion of people watching his videos can even play the Ashes Alpha while all the other guys will watch some streams for a couple days, realize they can‘t play it for years, lose interest and commit to other games in the meantime again anyways. In the end, the only people truly hyped for Alpha 2 are the ones that can play Alpha 2.

No offense bradely but i agree with martin! I am a main gw2 player and i have been follwoug the develpoment of ashes sicne the start and and im just as exited as at the start! Im 36 years old and i ahve played almsot all mmos ut there and one thing i have learned is taht great game take time. Im happy ashes is taking their time to give us the best mmo ever created!! This devs listen to the fan base and there zero share holders tryingto ruin the game! what the intrepid team is doign with ashes of creations is actually a world's first! They are undertaking a taks that has never been done before! They are creating the ultimate MMORPG by takign their time to develop the game, have no money hungry shark shareholders at their backs strssing the team out, they are actively listening to fans and gamers, they communicate bi-weekly and have a very active social media precence!!! All these aspects combined are all stuff that have never been done before!!!! Every phase this game goes trhough, everyone agrees it's amzing!!! Intrepid listens and changes stuff!!!! The game has ZERO red flags for 7 years straight!!! I ahve never in my 36 years seen a team develop a game in this fashion! Ashes will 100% be one of the best MMO to play in the future without a doubt! Their dev team is one of the best! They have hired the best of the best in the MMO world!! Their ntire team is beyond dedicated from all what we ahve seen from streams and lvie Q/a with his team! This making of this game is a novality! Never been done before in this matter! The game has zero money hungry sharks behind it! No amzon and no stupid korean crap! This shit is legit and if you are to scared or negative to see it then do not play the game but do not try to ruin it for the rest of us cuz it wont work! This game is really something else on so many levels!
