My favorite part of any MMO, whether in the new player rush new or revisiting years later, is always the leveling. At this point in my life, I have zero desire to be part of organized raiding and/or large scale PVP. I just want to have a good time existing in and exploring a virtual world. Not treat it like a second job. Sadly, with the exception of a few games, horizontal progression such as professions and other alt systems seem to be largely ignored or require mats that can only be acquired by, you guessed it, raiding and large scale PVP. It is what it is though. I have found plenty of solace in SP and coop games. So, its not that big of a deal. Its just sad to see a genre with so much promise churn out nickel and dime'ing theme parks non-stop.

Just to correct some misinformation in this video. The game definitely has P2W aspects. It's the same as pretty much all MMOs on the market where you can swipe for the market currency from G2G. So it's either you buy the currency from the game or you use G2G similar to most MMOs out atm. Not saying this is good, just making this clarification. Another thing, the gems you can buy from auction does not mean you get more skill books. The other material you need to craft the books are only obtainable through events in-game which you can't swipe for and have to participate in youself. So no one swipes for gems to make skill books cus you get 100s everyday just from participating in events. It's pretty dumb to swipe for that. When it comes to dungeon tokens, you can get 100s as well just from in-game free content which is opening chests on Sara island during the night. You can get anywhere from 300-900+ (1000s if you get them all with a small group) every night cycle which is every 2 hours. So lots of opportunities to get a ton of additional dungeon tokens. As someone who has been free to play, and have 10-15 friends in my guild who are also all free to play. We're all top 100 PvP rankings on the servers we played on that have 1000s of concurrent players. So this goes to show you don't have to swipe to compete at all. I've personally sold items from dungeons to make over 20,000 lucent in-game as well. Not much effort to do this, I just sold what I got from dungeons to buy what I needed to gear. So I hope this helps clarify some of the misinformation from this content creator who seems to be speaking from not his own personal experience. One last thing, there is a really cool AI bot detector in the form of a gigantic skeletal knight that kills botters in-game and bans them after three deaths. It can use improvements as bot/cheat programs evolve, but NC has been doing well in improving the AI detector and keeps us updated. They're very good with communicating with the player base and care about our feedback, which is why they've made a lot of fast and big changes since the game launched.

As someone that followed TL from the start and I'm loving the game I can say that's the best and honest review out there. NC need to listen or it will flop to west also with the p2w. Everyone on west its fine with the sub fees and cosmetics on a free-to-play game but when it comes to p2w/progress nah(personally would love to see TL on a buy to play as 20-50 euro packs +sub fee for/and cosmetics. I also give that price and hope people can reflect on my next words = ""pax-day for example its just again greedy practice again for a half-assed game released as d4 and a lot more with only 1 feature working and a TL its a fully designed game(as features) and deserve more but still i give that low amount imagine how i price the other 2 :D"". TL is destined for a big flop. Leveling and exploring the world was interesting at first, mainly due to the gorgeous graphics, but the endgame was boring as hell, even as a member of a major guild. The game's main focus is large-scale PvP, which becomes tedious very quickly. The story is nonexistent, the combat is mediocre, the game is pay-to-win, and there's a lack of gear visual variety. Discord coordination is mandatory for large-scale PvP and PvE, hardcore guilds dominate the servers, and there's a lack of professions or any other forms of horizontal progression.

What they need to change is: 1. Social Aspects, like interact with other people and helping each other, like FF14 and WoW 2. Auction House Tax, tax 20%+ is insane because we cannot get enough profit when selling gears we can craft to help others 3. Make Auction House cross-server-wide to make stock and demand balanced and better serves to help others 4. Make gathering aspect much more valuable because we actually don't want grinding dungeons until old, we need alternatives gather resources like from monsters/bosses or better gathering/crafting system 5. Theory-crafting 6. Lores 7. weapon glow or armor glow, dont make it too much glow because if you can get ez glow that mean that thing won't be exclusive anymore, except skins from in-game shop

I don’t actually care when James sells boosters that allow you to speed up your progression but when the game then put in time gating or our pay wall where you can’t progress without paying money, that’s a dealbreaker for me so liberty is never going to be my game if that’s the monetization method they use in the states when they release it. The P2W was never an issue in this game. .it's team balancing and No New Servers for New Players or for Migrants..so Older Players have way more Loot and skills are way more upgraded.. game was still playable and enjoyable but don't think you're coming in after the servers been out for 5-6 months and think you're about to contend for PvP and destroy.. 99.9% of the bots are all gone.. developed well but need that circle of Life attention.. New Players are playing a totally different game than the people who started a fresh server. If they balance that out the game's perfect 88/100

Facts being said, I think they should have a cap on max gear for endgame and probably not make the difference in power with gear that insane in PvP to incentivize more balanced fights in the open world. Lastly, arenas should have equal gear, base winning on skill rather than gear, and actually give good rewards for those who win and participate. Adding a ranking system would be nice as well. All this is only possible if arenas are equalized

One of the worst feeling combat systems ever. Its clunky, janky, cumbersome and feels like it belongs back in 2001. This game feels like it was originally intended to be a mobile / gacha game that was redesigned mid way through to be a MMORPG... The graphics, whilst nice, certainly are not next gen and something like those of Archeage released in 2013. I gave it a shot but couldn't get past 6 hours worth of play.. Horrible and bitterly disappointing.. I expect this game to DIE as fast, if not faster, than Bless Online.

Instead of creating unrealistic expectations, just wait until the product/game launches and judge it for what it is at that time. @@jorgealonso9792 I don't really feel that the genre is dying, but i do feel, just like with the strategy genre we get too many games that heavily miss the mark, and at some point ppl will be done with them. This happened with strategy games. We had a lot of good ones, but the big companies started to change the formulas, witch nobody wanted, and eventually ppl stop bothering with them. Nowadays we do get a decent amount of strategy games, but they are mostly indie games, and they have become a lot more niche then back then, so it's more a hit or miss of what ppl like. Also some companies refuse to make new entries in certain franchises (like Warcraft and StarCraft). I also feel this is about to happen with the live-service model. I think this will be the first to fall, especially since companies think this is the best invention ever (since it brings them lots of money), but if all we are getting is crap, then eventually ppl will stop buy/play them.

Botting problems P2W with the use of auction house Amazon as a publisher Oh boy, am I having flashbacks to Lost Ark. Some great suggestions there to make the game better, but many of them would cut in to the game revenue. As for the guild ranking thing, maybe just limit activity to a max of 2h/day per member for the full bonus.

First of all great video! Bot wise, they saw what happened in Lineage2 so this is where they originally added Auto Farm as they couldn't fight of bots properly (Essence Chronicle)...so this is why they considered "Astral hunting" as a normal thing so you can expect that in some distant future for "Astral farming" to be implemented back. Unless they actually put effort into anti cheat that will block macros, clickers not just 3rd party software's like Adrenaline, L2tower, L2walker, Zranger etc...

Biggest concern: Big guilds. The bonuses that come with a max guild make it impossible for small guilds to survive/compete. Second biggest concern: Forced PVP for zones/world bosses, etc. It's not a popular mechanic globally. If that didn't work in Korea, it seems like a huge red flag against suddenly being financially viable globally.

Unless someone in Korea does a paid sub MMO like the original TERA, I feel these games will always be P2W due to thier culture of the rich having higher prestige. Most other countries design around power fantasy escapism where even a poor and/or crippled child can become a great warrior in the virtual world(i.e. Ready Player One).

Or is the peak pve content so hard only whales and no-lifers can try to complete it? From what I'm hearing from reviews like this and from friends who are trying to get me to play, there isn't much pve content in endgame. The focus is pretty much large-scale pvp, the few dungeons are solely for the purpose of grinding to gear up for pvp, and if you aren't a whale or in a whale-filled guild you're going to get stomped constantly. Paying for gear upgrades and things like dungeon access can set someone's progression forward by several months. Which is technically temporary... but those months of no-lifeing are not going to be very fun for ftp players. Also a note about the dungeon access- you only get to run two times per day, unless you pay. Then you get to run 9 times. I'm no mathematician but seems like a week of paying for dungeon access alone would set you ahead of a strictly ftp account by 35 runs, which would be like 2 and half weeks' worth of time gating for the ftp account. Edit to add: I'm downloading it now to do the free trial over the weekend. My favorite parts of MMORPG's are character creation and exploring the world during level-up, so at least it'll be an enjoyable couple of days for me :p

I wouldn't mind a game to have restrictions in its f2p experience and paying a subscription would lift all these limitations. This is a fine business model to me as the f2p version of the game would act as a demo. From what you say it sounds like that's what's happening here with the subscription they added recently. However the devs should focus on delivering a great "paid" experience then add these restrictions for the f2p players. But the game would have to be designed and marketed around this business model from the beginning, which probably didn't happen here

The game vertical progression gives you enough books to max out 2 weapons skill tree that you would use, there's no need to max out every single weapon if you can only use 2. You said 100% pay2win and now you say pay to advance? there is a clearly crystal clear difference between those 2 I'm not saying is not pay2fast that would be the correct term (because at the end there's a limit of gear and sooner or later everyone that is putting decent hours to this game will get there) but is not pay2win and idgaf if you live in korea or china or taiwan. I plaid so many so called to win. If you can grind be smart and sell things on the market and get those tokens, who cares. I played games where you can get the monthly tokens, so the game is free, or STO were you farm dil get Zen, and yes it does become a grind. I know if I made a company I am going to want a letting pay back. Force, you nailed the P2W but you failed to elaborate that the reason for the "strange trade" of Player 1 buying premium currency so that Player 1 can buy Player 2's in-game-harvested items is to fight against RMT. Yes, botting is still an issue in this setup. That has been the gold standard of MMOs for 2 decades now in the industry (see: Eve Online with GTC & PLEX), and as someone who professes to like MMOs I'm not sure why you would omit this. The only difference between Throne & Liberty versus Eve Online is that Eve Online is full-loot item-destruction PVP -- which makes Eve Online "Pay To Lose" while fighting against RMT, so whales are actually incentivized to still become skillful at the game or their stuff is blown up or stolen. Most mainstream gamers don't understand this however and have a sense of entitlement that "because I paid for the game my 'stuff' should always 100% be safe" because the (IMO: boring) gear grind treadmill you tend to enjoy has become the "correct" way for a game to be created -- people play to grind the top gear do high end stuff and then quit unless there's new content as opposed to intrinsically enjoying the game and playing it on your terms and actually risking your items in the game.

Guild Wars 2 , I played it and actually I enjoy it a lot but the game is dated that I couldnt get into it by myself. I honestly met a couple good people in the game too. Taught me the basic and showed me what to do the time I was playing it. Its not a bad game and the community is welcoming. Time gated, pay 2 win, running daily and DG? , Seems like its Lost Ark all over again.

Thanks for the vid. I now know to avoid like it's COVID 19. Want it to be successful, then be a traditional MMO and get rid of the cash shop. Buy it, and sub it with a few extras like all others. Act like a gatcha game with micro-transactions and get treated like one. Play for a bit then move on when the credit card needs to come out to go deeper. As for the clan activity points. Have a limit to points per day and be certain that other aspects gain more points. Completing a certain amount of actions that cannot be botted. like cosmetic changes, doing a challenge set of tasks that require you to move from one dungeon to another, or talk and complete a mission from a set of random tasks from different NPC's around the world. Have whole clan events that require doing actions at the same time that needs to be done simultaneously in different locations to complete and receive points for the clan etc. Will they do any of these. Nope, probably not.

The whole bot problem could be solved if the drops system was better. If you have a way to get the equipment you want, or need, without having to spend two weeks killing the same monster, since the drop chances are abysmal, there wouldn't be so many bots, but the game decided to take the easy way out, where you make access to the item more difficult, instead of simply making this access a process of steps, and something pleasurable rather than tiring. I really like Throne and Liberty, and still play it, but I have to say, it's doomed to fail if it continues like this. Most developers today don't care about the long term, only about immediate gain, and TL is no different.

I feel like this game is trying so hard to keep up with the demands we have for a modern MMO that they simply won't be able to keep up. Finding the perfect balance is almost impossible these days. Devs need to take notes from the indie scene. Focus on what you're good at. Don't over promise. Just do what you love and the market will determine whether or not it's good or bad.
