Thank you for sharing, i can't wait to make this. I have started a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt, all hand sown. I have three quilts I have to do. One is my son's t-shirt quilt of his days of track in school, it will be his 50th birthday present. One for my daughter's 45th birthday and now my hexagon quilt. Oh, and i am making a design wall to hang. In between all that i have canning to do from winter food. 😂😅

I love how this came out with the little star points around each block. The dark polka-dot fabric really sets it off. Great job! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for that video. I always wanted to do a quilt with hexagons, but it looked way too complicated. Now I know a way to do it.

The easiest quilt top that I have come up with that can add a sense of shape and whimsy is to tear the fabric into stripes of the same width but different colors/patterns and randomly sew them in tag fashion. Then get both ends and sew the single row into another single row that doubles when you open it to the right sides. You can do it a couple times and you create your own "fabric. The cut the large sheet of fabric into oblongs on the bias. Where different fabrics com together you have four piece oblongs, or three piece obloings etc. All the end pieces with the diagonal cut you just sew together and you can just cut them out as oblongs. The more attentiuon you pay to the seam allowance you can match up the lines to make iyt an oblong design ot you can just sew them as they come and leave it hodge podge. Of course you can use the "new fabric" to cut your hex's etc and go to it., Just make certain to iro the fabric flat so that they cimne out relkatively the right dimensioin.

For those crafters that can make their own templates, CHARITY THRIFT SHOP picture frame plexiglass especially if the frame is broken and it looks like it is about to be tossed. Get directions how to size here in KZbin and on a wood board use a box razer opener on a metal rule guide (better yet, t-square) to cut a few times into the sheet to create a break line as if you were going to break sized glass sheets with a diamond cutter. if it is small enough, it might break smoother if you freeze it so that the cut line is far more weaker than the cold plexiglass. You might even hit up framing shops for their waste pieces since they are very likely to have very square edges. Just get a full sheet of like 120 and place that on a flat board and run the edge of the break line a couple times just to even it out a bit. For those people who have little ones, you can get those cut out letters from the $ store, sand the exposed area of the letter on the plexiglass to create letter "blocks" that if you put that same letter on each page the child can mach up the "shapes" (don't say letters just yet; just call them shapes). the little ones that do not read or recognize the differences in "letters" may better relate to shapes You could even make done of the "blocks" in different size blocks so that they can get use to matching squares, triangles, etc but just call all of them "shaprs". Since most kids books do not outlast one child it will not be much of a loss to trace the letter on a page with a particular picture that has the appropriate letter for the beginning of that word. You can even be creative and as the books get ratty save the good illustrations, paste them to composition books also at the $ store and create a little book especially if you want the child to concentrate on certain shapes.
