Thanks for the info on the plugins. Just a point, adding the sound library was a bit more involved then advised. After clicking on the "Download" link and agreeing to a usage policy you down load a ".zip" file containing a ".exe" file. You run the ".exe" and chose the folder where you wanted to install the library. I chose the "Audio" folder inside the Divinci Resolvefolder. Then inside the "Fairlight" page simply typing in *** in the search did nothing. I had to click on "Add Library" and then chose the "Fairlight Sound Library" folder inside my "Divinci\audio" folder" and then all the sound effect files are available. I am only starting to play around with video editing as a hobby and cannot believe this software with all these features is available for free. Sound effects are a nice addition also.
@Heiko-shaves Жыл бұрын
The features that are missing are not important, but there is one major difference between the free and the studio version. That difference is the hardware utilization and acceleration. A 30 minute 1080p video render in the free version would take me 15min'ish (with my pc hardware Ryzen 7 5700x, 32gb ram, RTX 3060 12gb), in the studio version that same video takes all of 2 minutes to render (with the same hardware). This hardware utilization is huge. It is a difference like night and day. I used to started the output render, walk away do something else and then eventually come back and upload the video to KZbin. Now it is so fast that I can just stay there, wait and immediately upload the vid. It is worth the $299. My mileage

There's no way my laptop can calculate millions of polygons and pixels and not draw 8 mono color rectangles at more than 5 fps.

The reason for the mic echo is because shotgun mics trade distance from the audio source (bad) for an interference tube which only works on some frequencies, and only sometimes. The interference tube is good if you're overhead micing on a movie set outdoors for example, but in a room like this it just hears a lot of room echo. The stealth disadvantage in this situation is that the sheer size of the interference tube forces the mic capsule away from your mouth. It's important to position the mic capsule as close to the source as possible while keeping a zero percent chance of clipping, plosives, or going off-axis, because this allows lowering the gain, which lowers the volume of everything except the source. The design of the capsule actually has more to do with the pickup pattern than the interference tube. If you snap the interference tube off here and move the mic capsule 8 inches closer, the recording will sound more true. Ideally you would just get a small diaphragm condenser mic without a big interference tube, like Sennheiser MKH 8050 or MKH 8060, and mount it from above, because the mouth tends to be closer to the top of the video frame than the bottom. You can read more about this if you search for Sound On Sound's Technical Editor Hugh Robjohns on shotgun mics. Hope that helps!

I was using Shotcut for my old content, and when you zoom into the timeline even a little to try and edit at more precise points it gets real laggy real fast, and no I'm not just talking about slower playback, I mean the entire app slows to a crawl until you zoom back out, this is before you've added any plug-ins or effects (good luck using corner pin and matching it to an audio file while animating on a logo/background scene, (for example, to create a stinger transition) I used this app because I don't have a lot of money at all right now and it's also free, but after this video, it may be time to get back into recording some gameplays and seeing if Resolve runs any smoother (not looking forward to relearning how to make transitions though as Shotcut did make that extremely easy by allowing you to just overlap to cut scenes, but if I can avoid having to wait literal minutes for the app to catch up every time I do anything at all I'm all for it.)

Switched to DaVinci about 2 years ago. And not from Adobe. Initially was using Camtasia Studio for some unknown reasons. Don't really do any fancy stuff in it, but brute forced my way to know the basics I needed. Before definite switch was testing it alongside Adobe (obviously) and Sony Vegas and somehow was able to get the hang of it faster. Plus similar test projects actually rendered in less time. All of that + obviously being free made it an easy choice. Just can wish life could allow a little bit more time to learn some fancy stuff.
