I've been taking notes for 6 years and only got the cojones to do it last month. My BIGGEST piece of advice to anyone thinking of doing it is to just get started right away. Don't let fear paralyze you. I kept thinking "well I don't have a good enough camera yet." or "I don't have a nice background" so many dumb excuses. That fear goes away as soon as you do it a few times, so might as well get started right away!

58 year old mom here who's kids think it's hilarious to watch me play video games, something I do to destress. They gave me a second monitor and headset so I can start doing something they have been bugging me to do at least a year...start a Twitch streaming account. Thank you for helping me learn how to do something that was completely foreign to me. Also, you don't need to be dropping winks in your videos. It's too much. Stop it.

Love the video! Big help with starting OBS. If you have trouble fitting OBS on a vertical monitor like me, read below! My OBS would not fit on my side vertical monitor no matter what I did. I tried: - Enabling portrait/vertical layout in OBS - Rearranging the docks - Adjusting my display scaling - Trying to override high DPI settings BUT once I went to OBS properties, compatibility, and settings; I disabled fullscreen optimizations and it could finally fit on my vertical monitor without leaking over into my horizontal one.

Your smile at the end of the video feels like a classic "Got'em". The one thing I'd have to say about advertising your own products on your own videos is: "If you're not gonna shill for yourself, nobody else will". You're always clear and upfront about your product placement, sponsorships and ads. That is what's important. Almost nobody wants more ads, but if you want the creators you watch to succeed that's how you do it.

As a side note about Display Capture: remember that it captures everything on the selected display! I've seen too many streamers accidentally dox themselves (personal email, phone number, address, etc) because they forgot which scene or monitor they were on. Just be mindful, especially if you're starting out with a single monitor setup. :)

Rule of thumb, if you can, use a computer just for streaming with no personal accounts on it. And if you cannot afford to do that: 1. Don't use a linked windows account 2. Set up your main browser to not launch while obs is active (anti distraction/productivity aid software does this) 3. Set a immediately recognisable theme for the browser you are allowed to use. 4. Turn off auto fill on the browser you are free to use.

Bro's out here our Master Classing Master Class... I've been a content creator and live streamer for 4 years using OBS... And I had no idea about the alt trick to prevent my camera cropping from carrying from scene to scene.... You've saved me from so much drama. Also, I've never manipulated audio sources directly from the settings so it's always a mess from scene to scene of me moving nested audio sources across everything. Looking forward to the next videos in this series and thanks for taking the time to pull it together and make it accessible for free... Unlike ninja

Thank you for this excellent video for starters. I followed every step and now I have a beginners set up for streaming. For the next part of this MasterClass series, I would suggest showing how to show the chat on your stream and how to customize the look of the chat. Additionally, I would love to learn how to customize and set up scenes, such as a "Starting Soon" or "Be Right Back" scene for viewers. I've tried to make my own but I struggled on how to set them up correctly. Lastly, I would like to learn how to customize the border of your webcam/notification/etc. Overall, I would love a video talking about customization of your stream for viewers. Once again, thank you for this excellent OBS MasterClass video and I look forward to the next video!

This is awesome, thank you for laying it out so cleanly for us noobs! One note - I'm on OBS Studio 28 (newest), and for Mac at least, the Sources menu has changed. "Display Capture" has been moved to the Deprecated submenu; "Game Capture" doesn't exist as a source, but I was able to connect my Elgato Neo as a "Video Capture Device." Maybe this will help someone else. Cheers!

Im very glad you put emphasis on which mic is selected to use. I bought a very nice mic and spent time in the settings making it nice a crisp. Little did I know that all my scenes were using my crappy webcam mic. I went about 1 week with this bad mic which equated to about 30 hours. That is a long time to have a bad mic. As a smaller streamer you won't have the luxury of people giving you feedback while watching, most of the time they just peace out because of quality issues.
