Due to growing up in Southeast Asia ( Cambodia), I have seen many iteration of the story from live drama, books etc growing up. It’s great to see that westerners are enjoying the same story as I did in my younger years. Just bought the game and can’t wait to ply it. Thanks for the review .

The reason they put single disc games into double jewel cases is because of the size of the manual. The manual was too thick to fit into the insert of a single disc jewel case.

Seeing reviews like this just makes me fall in love with the ps1 graphics. This is still one of the few ps1 jrpg's I need to add to the collection but its nice to hear its a competent game nonetheless.

+TheCompletionist Yes, I love these PS1 SRPG graphics. The battle maps on this one look very similar to FF Tactics, which is one of my favorite games of all-time.

I feel the exact same as both of you. i play the ps1 more than i play any of my new gen systems :D the art is just gorgeous to me! (FF tactics is one of my top 3 games)

Also as a side note, you can play as either a male, or female Sanzo, but they both share the same exact story.

Wow, I love the Chinese folktale heritage. The game itself is beautiful as well doing the phrase "PS1 game" justice. Love those themes playing in the background as well; they should've thrown a CD in that double case, even if it was a bit repetitious. I'll keep my eyes out should this pop up. Great as always!

+Majora T Yeah, a music CD would have been a great pack-in. This game doesn't seem to be too common, but its not too expensive either.

It just dawned on me in that it feels almost like a precursor to Jeanne DArc.. I’m hoping both are rereleased in some way.. It’s so perplexing being they’re both excellent yet no one really knows about them

+Andrew Phillips I did the same thing with Wild Arms, it sat on my PS3 for about 2 years before I played it. This one is definitely worth trying out.

BawesomeBurf Aye same with me with Wild Arms. Funny thing was I finished 2,3,4,5 and finally got around to playing the first. Excellent game. I've been wanting to play a strategy rpg so perhaps Saiyuki will be it.

+KITT171 You might be able to download it on the Vita, although I'm not sure how many PS1 games are compatible with it. The really nice thing about this game is that you can save anytime.

I was going to use the PlayStation emulator at some point to play it, just ended up forgetting I guess. I have no idea if it is one of the PS1 games that works on the VITA. Don't know if I want to play a strategy game on a small screen though, not what I am used to.

i already got most of the good ps1 and ps2 rpgs from the ps3 store. got enough left on my account and this one would be very tempting if it had some challenge like ff tactics. i just picked up legend of mana and am trying to decide between wild arms 2 and arc the lad 2.
