But this is the STI Sport version of the BRZ, with modifications to bracing, suspension, wheels and tyres. I don't think this version of the car is available outside Japan.

If they only would make manual. This car oozes "old school rally". Light, superb handling and RWD. Yet it manages to miss one thing many lightweight car (elise etc) purists love. No manual option.

@@YOUENNNN It isn't only about the weight, the others reasons explained are that the budget they had from Renault would not have allowed them to develop the manual box comparing to the amount of people who would have buy the manual box

nice to see subs of this review, the brz/86 has room for improvement, but keeping the price low and popularizing driving pleasure at an entry level plays a big part in the car. Very excited to see the 2nd gen 86 next year.

Unfortunately its not that easy. Some tuners have looked into it, but the top mounted intercooler design of the WRX engine is actually a little tall for the BRZ's engine compartment. You'd need a custom hood or redesign the inter cooler placement for it to fit

The problem is that with a turbo the BRZ/86 will be too much pollutant and will have VERY EXTREME tax in some countries because of that and nobody could afford it !

Great viewing for the pistonhead, as usual. The Alpine does seem to be blessed with some chassis magic- those Renaultsport engineers are goooood at their jobs. I own this version of BRZ. It's also less than half the price of the Alpine in my market. And it is a brilliant driver's car. Simple fun, not trying to show off with big numbers, just focused on providing lots of engagement and communication

awesome video, thanks! Japans car makers are getting into form again. Mx5 G184 finally has almost enough horsepower, the Supra is a fine machine, the new Nissan 400Z is in the making, the upcoming GR86 will have 2.4L, maybe even a turbo. I hope they will keep going in this direction!

Japanese representative should've been the MX-5 miata nd in my opinion, it's a two seater also, shares the same lightweight philosophy and is the closest for being front-mid engined car. Also the new ~180hp Miata is closer age-wise.. BRZ/86 seem to be on their last breath before a major update.

Toyota really needs to come with a new MR2, but rivaling this Alpine will be very difficult.
Honda really should make an S2000 successor and keep a developed version of the K20. And Toyota probably will choose the turbo FA20 for the next gen. I agree with DK! Japan needs to do more!

Many people say the same - I much prefer a stick to a torque converter myself. But, every reviewer worth their salt that pushed the Alpine hard said the same thing : when you push that car on its home turf (meaning : winding, twisty little narrow Alps roads), shifting takes too much time away from its (superb) handling and you're GLAD it's an auto ! And there are worse auto than the dual clutch 7-speed the Alpine comes with.

The Alpine isn't sold here in Canada so unfortunately I have a 15 year import law to wait for. Until then the next closest thing is the Alfa Romeo 4C. I love French cars like the Alpines, Venturis, and Renault Sport machines.

They aren't really rivals at all. 4C is a very hardcore car, totally stripped out and without any luxury or comforts, very hard suspension and very track focused. Also, fully built out of carbon fiber and much more expensive. Alpine is a very comfortable and refined car with very soft suspension, more a grand touring car than a hardcore sports car.

The Alfa 4C has got poor steering performance and feel and is almost impossible to live with every day. A110 can be a daily driver. Now I gave you the info, no need to make a video. have a good day.

I really enjoyed seeing these near perfect RWD machines driven to the limit. You guys should test the Alpine A110 S as it has 50% stiffer springs, 100% stiffer anti-roll bars, sits 4mm lower, 320mm discs and an extra 40bhp. So it loses some of the playfulness and suppleness of the chassis but should be even more sharper and better for the track :) 🇫🇷🇯🇵❤

I'd love to see a BRZ / GT86 with a 300HP engine from factory. Shove in a 2L turbo from a hot hatch, keep it manual, lighten it up, and beat the Alpine for fun for 1/2 the price.

What about the mazda mx-5? It is comparable to the BRZ. Especially with the new more powerful 2.0 engine.
