Alpine iLX-W650 Firmware Upgrade - V1.009_0604

In this video I update my Alpine iLX-W650 firmware from V1.008_0405 to V1.009_0604.
I got the update from this site:

After the update, I perform a factory reset and then test Android Auto with my T-Mobile REVVLRY+.

To get into setup, you need to do parking brake: on-off-on

Do you have a sub installed in your JK? I just recently installed the w650 and I noticed a drastic change in sound quality (not for the better) in comparison to the factory head unit.

Rely on parking brake fixes your issue. You can actually get a bypass at your local audio shop.

Firmware update resembles my drone updates....one of my drones didn't like a flash drive that had a large memory capacity... What are the memory capacities for your hard drives? Bet the smaller of the two was the one that worked...

@Benjamin Do You guys probably read my post up top. Here is the main part of it: HTH I had 2 different 16GB USB sticks (newer) that did not work at all. Using windows disk management (Windows key + X). I had to delete the partition. Then I created a new "Simple Volume". Only set size to 1000 (under 1GB). Then formatted it to FAT32 like they say. Then copied folder in. Then it worked like a champ. I figured this out because I figured the radio was kind of dumb/old technology. And I know back in the day things did not like stoarage sizes over 2GB or 4GB. You can probably get away with 2 or 4 exactly, but may as well go all the way down. You only use it once or twice right? then back to whatever you had it and resize it back to larger size.

Hey I just got this head unit 2 weeks ago, so I'm wondering do they all come with the same original firmware version? Or do they update them as time goes on and as they sell them? I'm asking bc I'm having major problems with listening to music, the damn Android auto shuts down like every 10secs to maybe 10 minutes, but it constantly shuts down and I have to unplug the cord, plug it back in, wait for everything, sometimes I have to unplug it multiple times, so it's to the point I stopped wasting my time listening to music with my ""new radio"" until I can call and figure out what's wrong. But I seen it's not just me having issues. So what I'm wondering is, does this firmware update actually solve the problem?

This video is a bit old, so there might be a newer firmware available now. Also, Android Auto can be finicky with the cord you use to plug the device in. However, the Sony XAV-AX5000 I had before this Alpine iLX-W650 crashed with everything. Another thing to check is what all is plugged in. For example, my install was in a Jeep and I tried to re-use the USB port on the Jeep, it didn't work as well as when I just had a cord running directly from the head unit to the phone. I got around that by doing the cigarette lighter USB that I have a video on. I never had any issues with that setup. Of course, now I use the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX and I primarily connect wirelessly and I never have any issues

@@5after12 yeah I can see it's from 11 months ago, but I was just looking at your video to get a basic idea of how it works and how to do it. Bc I called Alpine while I was on the road and it was hard to hear so I just hung up, figured I'd call back later, but I heard enough to learn about the firmware update. So now I'm just looking into it. But like you said about the cord, I think it may be the cord also, bc it is a little finicky just when I'm charging my phone, you can see it stop charging every once in awhile, but this is a new cord, I had to get bc my old cord completely stopped charging my phone. But now even the new cord, it works like 85% of the time, but that 15% or so is enough for me to notice when it will skip a few beats while charging, but then pick back up. So maybe possibly thats my issue? If you were to take the cord out while Android auto is playing, does it stop and the App disappears from the screen(I forget lol)? But yeah and also, do you have a recommendation on what USB thumb drive I should get so I don't need to try it 4 and 5 times?

I am not positive. I did not install the bypass on the Alpine iLX-W650. I did install a bypass on my Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX, but I haven't needed to update it yet

I noticed your unit, everything is lit up. My USB, iPod and Connectivity is greyed out. My “connectivity” turns to Apple car play when I plug in my phone. Did you have that issue with the others being greyed out?

The others are grayed out, it must the angle of the video. They should be grayed out unless they are available. So if you have a USB stick plugged in it would light up

5after12 Oh okay, makes sense. As for having to pull the emergency brake to access your settings and stuff. You can buy part “Axxess AX-TRIG1”. Hook it up according to the instructions and it’ll make the system think the brake is always pulled.

@@5after12 Thanks got the newest one. Hopefully this fixes my bluetooth issue where sounds is messed up after a little while of talking. Also my display seems super bright. Doesn't matter if it's night or day mode, looks like brightness is full blast.

@@5after12 even after the update I notice my bluetooth volume in Android auto is crazy low. If you're driving you can barely hear the other person with the volume on phone and phone setting on the radio all the way up. Then it still sounds garbled at times. I think part of this is due to stock speakers and now this new radio and the ohms not matching properly. The radio barely pushes the speakers very loud, so I may get the small amp and tuck it behind the radio too.

@@HaOsLsE they have that cool amp that mounts on the back of the head unit. I don't have those issues you described but I don't make a lot of phone calls and I have aftermarket speakers
