I used this video to fix an alpine sub i got that was blown and it worked well so thank u for that. Now I need another DVC speeker to match it right now im running 2 walmart 12s SVC speekers and im getting 110.9DBs

Hi! Thank you for what you are doing! The only source of information on the repair of subwoofers of this type! There is a question, did you have to disassemble the magnetic system on swr 1022d? How can I remove the aluminum protective cover of the magnet? On a working subwoofer. I want to reduce the installation depth of the subwoofer for installation in a stealth box.

I have never removed the protective cover from a type r. my guess would be that the vented disk on the back is glued to the ferrite but i’m not sure 🤔.

U can buy just the surround on ebay along with pack and the coil.

To my knowledge you cannot buy the OEM HAMR surround anywhere. There are many places to get generic single role surrounds but that was not the point of this exercise. you also cannot but spider packs with stitched leads that have lead orientation that line up with the terminal set up of a type r.

popping noise is hard to diagnose. could be bad leads, coil, spiders, etc. there are a number of potential causes. you really need to isolate the cause before establishing the remedy 😬

Hello. I have a type r and it makes noise too, I believe like your subwoofer. Did just tightening the screws solve your problem?

Will the newer H.A.M.R surrounds work on the classic type R? I ave a classic and the rubber is just staring to lift on the inside edge. What other replacement surrounds would you use instead of this, I am in the uk so parts are like rocking horse poo poo.

if possible just glue it before it comes more separated. but, i think there are companies that ship replacement surrounds internationally 🤔

12” Type r have either 2” or 2.58” voice coils depending on which generation.

Depends what you are glueing. Surround I always use e-6000. Voice coils i use CA and/or HT epoxy. Spider to basket e-6000.

is CA glue really the best choice when it comes to fixing the delaminated part by glueing it to the fabric paper part? because CA glue has a tendency to cause synthetic or cotton like fibers when CA touches it, will create a chemical reaction producing heat, smoke, and subsequently fires.. Anyone who ever got krazy glue on a bandaid could tell u... or what happpens if they use CA glue on the inside of their shoe if glueing the insole in cause it kept moving... yea.... id rethink CA glue and probably go straight to using what they did from the factory.. silicone like glue or wood glue. Under the cone isa black paper pressed together is many layers that makes it thick enough.. then it all gets stiffined with a paint like hardener not unlike acrlyic but idk what is is..The paper is porus like cotton fiber. Dont use CA glue on it.. All the yellowed drued and hard looking yellow glue are wood glue variants, probably quick setting

yes, CA glue gets hot while curing especially when using an accelerator but no fire. it doesn’t get hot enough to reach the combustion point. CA glue is pretty standard as far as sub building goes 🤷‍♂️

i tried it out using a supposed silicone type of ca glue off amazon. Stuff starts drying rapidly.. faster than hot glue would but it dries hard and clear. Worked out fine so i guese iwas worrying over nothing, or maybe only certain fabrics with ca glue can start smoking.. but i know for certain it didnt feel good . try it with a qtip sometime and watch closely. caught my type r just before the damage was irreversable because of you bro thanks. Guy who igot the sub from 15 years ago didnt clean that sub box out from saw dust (i kept the box awhile too) after he built the box. Didnt think nothing of it then but the coil was running hott because the saw dust kept cooling from happening as good and the tolerance for the coil just mustve had no gap... so it's fairly dark looking, some scrapes inside the former, but i cleaned out all the dust and metal flakes and she ohms out fine, plays loud still too. got lucky for now. only part not lucky was the dust cap/cone face delaminated and began chipping... i finished peeling it, which took some ofthe paper under part with it.coukdnt find a cone replacement yet so i ended up using carbon fiber vinyl wrap and it came out ok.wouldve been much easier if i hadnt already glued everything back together. Looks like a ghetto type x now lol. keep it up bro good work!

to my knowledge it is not possible to purchase original surround. you may be able to find something that will fit from various parts website’s but i have not been able to locate surround specifically for type r

So seeing as is nearly impossible to find type r surrounds. Could I possibly use any surround that shares the same dimensions? Or would excursion be effected since it was built with specific surround shape?

Honestly I prefer to use OEM just because it’s what alpine designed it with. Finished product sounds fantastic with either.

@@coyote5.02 well tighter suspension will raise Fs produce better SPL numbers at the cost of sq and improve mechanical power handling. I guess it depends on your goals are. Both have their pros and cons

Unfortunately as I mentioned in the video, The OEM surround is not available to purchase. I just have so many type R subs come into my shop I save any parts that might be useful. The surround I used was off another type R with a shattered cone
