Smashing vid Patrick. I've often noticed it gets very windy at Alport Castles even when there's only a moderate westerly, once I was walking from Bleaklow on a windy day and really struggled to stay upright as I approached the edge at the castles. I think the brown colouration of the water is not caused by sediment, rather dissolved organic matter from the peat, hence it won't be removed by your Sawyer filter as the molecules will be chemically bonded to the water molecules. I've drank it from my Saywer mini many times and just tell myself it'll put hairs on me chest ☺

The opportunity for scrambling looks good there and the views look astounding. This is an area I haven't explored yet as it isn't easily accessible by train but I must explore it, because it looks amazing by the looks of it. Thank you for uploading this great, interesting video.
@patrickdickinson64926 жыл бұрын
Hi yes a great area to explore, fantastic scenery . you can get out to Bamford by train but would be a 3-4 hour walk to the Castles, Ok if you are camping out. A car to Fairholmes visitor center and couple of hours would get you up to the Castles. Another way is to park on the Snake at Hagg farm entrance and you can then get up to Alport Castles and area in 1 hour. hope you get up there all the best Pat

Hi Pat -Great video as always. I like your continuation shots. I should do those but I think one day I'll keep walking and leave the camera behind! I like the safety feature on top of the Tower. Captured some stunning views and good weather always a bonus.. and that fog is unpredictable but adds to the anticipation when you awake. More than likely its windy up there - I think last time I was blown over a couple of times.. Also, must say, you cook up some great meals - that's part of the fun for me too. Thanks for the journey again - always great to watch especially when not been out for a while - looking forward to more vids from you as well as getting out there again soon.. ATB Stephen.

Interesting video. You do get into some interesting and often inaccessible places to bring us something different. Well done. As for the brown water. If you were in Scotland, you would soon find out that this type of water is used in making whiskey and gives it flavour and colour. So nothing yo worry about there . Thanks for your endeavors and entertainment in making your videos.

Brilliant video as always, and always something surprising and different I guess the brown discoloration in water is dissolved chemical that would need charcoal or such to absorb it rather than a filter. Awareness of safety first is a good thing for survival! I had never heard of that location and it looks amazing. Wind and mics is a nightmare. I just bought an external one to record sound separately so we'll see how that goes (I am going to make a windscreen for it shortly out of a pet toy squirrels tail!). Only used it for one video but an indoors one and it worked a treat. On weather, you often can't tell how things will turn out . My Beinn Ime trip got so much wind, hail and rain blasted at us that a lot of music was essential! I keep getting encouragement from your videos. All the best!
@patrickdickinson64926 жыл бұрын
Hi Terry yes other people have said its due to molecules of organic material sticking to the water molecules so filtering the discoloration out does not work, but the water is safe to drink that's the main thing. I was trying a different camera very small sony Rd 100 and covered the mic apertures up with stick on fur type mufflers, OK in light wind but did allow wind noise through when very windy, so its back to my DSLR with remote mic and big dead cat on the mic to get the good audio. To get the best audio and video it looks like I will have to take all my heavy film gear no easy answer. Thanks for your comments Terry much appreciated all the best Pat

I love these videos, they remind me of the sort of quirky documentary shorts the BBC produced in the 70s and 80s, when there was quality stuff on TV. I especially like they way the more remote the wild camp, the more elaborate the food. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Hi Pat, just hiked up past Howden Edge today and filtered some flowing water from a stream with my sawyer filter . It came out brown. yuk .We didn't drink it. Great vid Pat. All the best, Steve.
@patrickdickinson64926 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve yeah would appear that it is safe even though its brown when filtered, both Bleaklow and Kinder are the same. If i get my water from a stream I ,am OK with it when filtered, even though brown, quite often it gets boiled as part of cooking or drinks. Thanks for comments was a great camp , all the best Pat

Thanks for taking us along with you Patrick. At 4:50, when you were showing us Alport Tower I was thinking "wouldn't it be great to actually camp at the top of that?" Little did I know that that was exactly what you had in mind :) I should have known that you weren't going to camp anywhere a normal person would ;)

Hi Gary, such a atmospheric area, which I had my drone then, would of given some great footage, all the best Pat
@garyellis14374 жыл бұрын
@@patrickdickinson6492 yeah, when you were using your giant selfie stick I was thinking just that, a drone shot would have been something really special up there. That said, the video certainly didn't lack drama :) Stay safe Pat, when all this is over we all want you back out there doing what you do so so well :)

extreme wild camping pat absolutely breathtaking definitely something different, think you must have legs like a mountain goat to get up there with that pack on, a very interesting site with its history of uk's bigest landslide, amazing views especially the contours of what was the landslide, you certainly deserved that rib eye steak, I could almost smell it cooking, great video pat and very good camera work, thanks for sharing, take care, Les.

hi les yes great location, going up was not bad sort of just pulled myself up, coming down a different story felt like my rucksack was trying to push me down, can ,t beat a bit of rib eye,all the best Pat

Loved the "reveal" of where you were camping. I'm ready for my first bivvy rather than hammock wild camp and was thinking "I can get there, love walking around Ladybower!" Then saw the spot... maybe next time ;-) Not everyday you wake up in a cloud. Now making me think I want to wake up in a cloud and do a time lapse of it lifting. Not sure how or when I would even begin to do it, but thanks for the video's and inspiration again.

Hi Chris great time to get out bivvying as long as it stays dry and so many places to bivvy with a great view. I had this location on my list of places for a long time. I was hoping for a nice sunrise but waking up in a cloud added that something extra, thanks for comments and all the best for your next bivvy Pat

Hi Bino, once yo have some a camp or bivvy near to home or on a campsite then you realize how easy and safe it is, then your confidence grows and you can enjoy more adventurous camps. Its worth it to get that feeling of adventure and a great way to spend you time, all the best Pat
