But wasn't money that brought you happiness. Was the concert and the music itself. Money only made possible to happen. Money for money is nothing, mere symbol of materialism and materialism is nothing.
@sammipanini2 жыл бұрын
@@deathcrush6155 Not trying to be a debate lord here but I think there is a bone to pick. First, I agree with the first part of your statement. It was, indeed the concert and the music itself that brought the OP their happiness. Case in point, if the OP had been given the tickets for free, I would venture to say their enjoyment would be roughly the same as were they to have bought the tickets themselves. But what do you mean by materialism is nothing? Also, I don't think money is merely the symbol of materialism. Personally, money is more so the notion that I won't starve on the cold rough park bench tomorrow, and I think that justifies money as a source of happiness.

i feel really sad for no reason and the phrase: TO BE A DEER IN NARA made my cry... and i dont know why
@blackfootbill12544 жыл бұрын
The Shinto religion and local beliefs hold that a deity named Takemikazuchi arrived in the old capital of Nara on a white deer to act as the city's protector, and as a result, the deer of Nara were considered sacred, messengers of the gods. “To be a deer in Nara” (IMO) I believe the person written about in the song is gay in a homophobic society and either wishes or is finally in a place where he is accepted.

The amount of things this song means to me.... Wow! As a gay man, it hits home for real. It has gotten me through so much and I will forever be grateful to Alt-J for this masterpiece. Cannot wait to see them live one day.
@devinpowers92656 жыл бұрын
I agree. As a gay man who grew up in a very tiny (400 pop.) conservative town, this song means so much to me. I Finally got to see them live a couple months ago. Even with my huge expectations, they didn’t disappoint. I Haven’t found a band that’s gotten me so emotionally invested in their music since Radiohead, when i was a teen. Great stuff. Also, to the people who have been turned off by the meaning of the lyrics, pretty sure that longing to be with someone whom you love and the relief of actually being able to realize said love is a very universal experience. Regardless of gender or orientations. Your letting your own insecurities dictate your perceptions. Stop it. Don’t let it spoil such great music.

Nara is my all-time favourite song. It was the summer two years ago when I first listened to the song. So much glee and joy coming to my mind. I felt kinda bewildered. Everytime I am listening to the song the pictures of the summer 16 are flying into my mind. One thing confusing me is that you do not really know the greatness of a moment in the present. You learn to appreciate these moments afterwards. I do not know if that is just me and I want to learn to appreciate the moment and, as edgy as it sounds, to live it. only some words flying around in my mind that I had to write down

For those who don't understand the meaning, here is my interpretation: the song speaks about the hardships of being a homosexual in modern society, wanting to run away "to be a deer in Nara," a city in Japan where deer are treated as majestic, almost godlike creatures. The song mentions the source of homophobia and prejudices: "hallelujah" as a double entendre representing a religious source of prejudice and the joy they feel as they escape the hatred of society, Alvan E. Bovay, the founder of the Republican party, and Alabama, one of the most conservative states in the US. It's about running away into the unknown with the one you love, when they say "Saut dans le vide (leap into the void), my lover" it really emphasizes this point. They even allude back to the Olympics, mentioning Russia's vehement discrimination of homosexuals in the line "Unpin your butterflies, Russia", with butterflies representing the LGBT community. All in all, it's an amazing song and probably my favorite of all time from them.
@brandonboykin943210 жыл бұрын
Let's not forget the amazing likening of his lover to Aslan the Lion (He found me. My Aslan) from The Chronicles of Narnia, who is largely considered a metaphor for Christ. His lover is his savior.

Brandon Boykin Very true! Nice catch! They truly take the extra step in terms of depth with their lyrics. It's amazing.
@pendjiin10 жыл бұрын
Skalert Swiggins Yes, persecution mostly brought to light by the Olympics, at least to the majority. :)
@videogamethemetunes10 жыл бұрын
It also may link to the prejudice of Homosexuals with the line "Love, love is the warmest colour" This may convey the way that people believe LGBT's have swapped genders and a gay man would like pink (traditionally a female colour)and a gay woman would like blue(traditionally a masculine colour) as these colours all have strong gender links. So Alt J has said, it doesn't matter what gender you like, you can be who you are.

Universe Daily Just wanted to make the point that queer women aren't really associated with the colour blue and queer men certainly aren't associated with pink as pink was the Nazi designatory colour for homosexuals, which is why a rainbow is used to represent homosexuality nowadays. I wouldn't normally call a common mistake out, but some homosexuals would be extremely offended if you associated their sexuality with that colour for that reason.

This song speaks of something so joyful and ecstatic that I want to cry. Yes - my love to love like no other can - is gone. Ashes and dust.
