It's so cool that there was a custom banlist that ARG made as a 3rd party, being able to push Konami more towards what the fans of the game want from the format rather than what their pockets want in selling product, in this case The Secret Forces as much as humanly possible, is always what should be prioritized so that the game is in a healthier state.

The point behind it failing and no one ever doing another ban list for big in person tournaments like that was simply that the player base is not also printing the cards so they can't know what bans or limits will help with incoming new cards. That's why Konami is the best at it.
@Merik20132 жыл бұрын
@@ellachino4799 The ARG Circuit also offered cash prizes. They were trying to emulate Star City Games, but I still remember their first outing which was held during the height of Dragon Ruler format. As I recall, all but one of the top cuts were full blown Dragon Ruler decks. Nary a Spellbook deck to be found. The one rogue contender I recall was singled out for an interview for playing a Worms deck of all things. The stream hosts were audibly frustrated with the way things turned out. The format was stacked against the ARG Circuit from the start and its a real shame because I was rooting for them. I always thought it was idiotic that Kazuki Takahashi forbid Konami from offering cash prizes when the first arc in his Duel Monsters manga featured a cash prize as a major plot point and motivation for one of the three most significant characters in the series.

Love to see a competitive custom banlist make it into history. All competitive games must be reminded that they CAN play without the owners of the game dictating what they should or should not do when competing. Of course, missing out on official tournaments prize pools and whatnot does sting, but people need to remember that you don't HAVE to settle for bad banlists etc.

ARG is now just a card store I don't think they have the resources to do custom tournaments the way they once did and in general I believe the custom banlists by third party brands have mostly ended up going poorly for that brand. Since I don't hear much about PPG Yugioh tournaments anymore. Also the ARG announcement was in July with Nekroz having been overwhelmingly dominant since February. so the equivalent would be a custom banlist in april or March.

4:19 - One other thing that ARG was criticized for at the time of this list being put out was that some level of shadiness behind it as well. Prior to them dropping it they were buying up as many Tellarknight cores as they could while vending some events and wouldn't you know, the list they put out is *heavily* favourable for Tellarknights who they now have plenty of cards to sell. For a company that at the time championed itself as not being like Konami this didn't put them in a good light. Furthermore like already mentioned there were people going "who are these guys to say what a banlist should be like" and as many of us know that YGO players tend to come up with some...not so good banlist takes. Thus we have a format with a banlist made from YGO player's takes and while an interesting experiment in concept we'd later learn that banlists would not be so cut and dry in making/executing and that there's a reason why banlists should never be left to the players to decide. There's alot that goes into making them and why Konami goes about handling them in their own, terrible ways.

Having this in history of yugioh really does make it complete. I remember ARG running their series for both Yugioh and Force of Will. MTG had SCG as their second series. I miss those days for TCGs once Streaming on Twitch or JustinTV was a thing, and just having something on during the weekend to fill that void of coverage for the big TCGs. What is funny Force of Will just before the current banlist basically had this happen. Where the community banned a couple cards that were a problem, but at least they got permission from the company to do it. Keep up the fun content, and maybe when Jank gets to this time frame play some Jank decks that were played in this format.
