I know others have commented on it...but I think the reason Rose smiled when Chris started choking her (before the lights started flashing) is because she took morbid pride in corrupting an otherwise innocent black man and turning him into a murderer. It was also a final opportunity to show her true face and ensure he'd see it every single night in his nightmares for the rest of his life.

I think it’s meant to be a twisted nod to “Othello.” Othello strangled his beloved wife because of his paranoid beliefs she was unfaithful, only to discover she was innocent and he had been misled by Iago. She loved him so much she refused to incriminate him. Her last words in the play: “Commend me to my kind lord.” In this film we have a paranoid, suspicious Black protagonist but his girlfriend truly is guilty of betrayal.

Crodept thank you so much this is the first comment I’ve seen pointing this out!!!
@gpsdoc22224 жыл бұрын
@@crodept4241 Sorry if I sound rude but I'm just thinking unfiltered. You missed something very important. The neurosurgeon was a FREAKING EVIL GENIUS. His last few seconds of consciousness allowed him to tip the candle and set the whole house on fire from the basement up. Also neurosurgeon's "friends" ie. customers he invited over for the "party" ("bingo" bidding event for Chris) would cover up the scene and evidence. If necessary, hire private clean up crews, kill the clean up crews and kill the killers and so on because they have the money to make sure it's kept unknown and not traced back to them. This is also unrealistic unless I'm being biased, but police drive up and see a bloody black guy or any guy on top of a bloody white girl, at NIGHT with poor visibility. They could shoot him just for suddenly raising his hands up in the air because unless you're a cop, the police fear for their life after seeing Chris on top of the girl. Aren't police also trained with a predator vs prey mindset from what John Oliver said. But still shooting with the girl right next to Chris is reckless, but they don't know if he's gonna kill her with a knife stabbing. Unfortunately to be honest in real life I bet everybody including me, you and everyone in the world wouldn't believe Rod's story unless hypnosis and transferring consciousness was possible. If this stuff is real, that would be batshit horrifying. But yes you are right, the police might have found out if they were guided properly by Rod. But then all the "friends"/customers want to leave no traces so they would be hiring lawyers to make sure that justice never happens, so literally money would cover up the horror. At the same time I don't know anything about law and crime so maybe the FBI would be able to do something about it. But the FBI has a budget and the government runs on money so if they run out of money and they will not be able to pay overtime for FBI agents and lawyers which means justice doesn't prevail. Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to have a pragmatic, pessimistic, but realistic perspective since the police and FBI need to get paid for the detective work. Peele was so kind to not leave people with a broken heart. But NO WAY would Rod be able to get a police car! Maybe he could get help from the TSA somehow talking to the highest boss to do something and them hearing him out since he's got clout with them. So the moral of the story is Rod is your true best brother for life!
@basedbattledroid35074 жыл бұрын
This was what everyone expected to happen when those sirens appeared, and having Rod arrive instead in the actual ending was such a nice, happy subversion of our expectations, it was such a relief to see "airport security" on the door then see him getting out.

I know that this may sound weird, but I have concluded that the police officer who asked for Chris's registration was actually good. The director used the cliffhanger for the original ending because what happen after he got out of the house doesn't affect the film. Beside, he want us to focus more on why Chris didn't kill Rose. Yet he could kill Rose's whole family because of anger, but he couldn't kill her with his own hands. Chris's feelings for Rose was true. "You are my everything. I'm not gonna leave without you ( despite I'm scared af and want to leave this place )" said Chris to Rose earlier in the movie. He couldn't kill her and he hated himself for it. We see Chris is more human than ever after we saw him killed so many people so easily and emotionless.

There shouldn't really be a debate about which ending is better. The genius of the original ending is that you are made to think it will end this way. The fact that you are expecting that but it doesn't happen demonstrates how bad the problem with police violence against black people in the US is

@jeffg33432 жыл бұрын
Even if the house burned down the police could still uncover a lot of the forensic and of course witness evidence from the people that knew the family. There's way too much info to not know about what was going on in the house after everything is investigated. Chris could be jailed for a period but I think he'd go free in the end. He could just say "go look at the surgery scars on (like 5 peoples heads, etc). They'd have to make new criminal laws about people like the grandpa, who attacked Chris with his own mind, but in the body and name of another. It would be a shitstorm. Love the movie though.

I think this would’ve been a more accurate ending based on our society today. It doesn’t matter what situation he got himself into, he was gonna be locked up either way. This ending is a message that our society incarcerates without knowing the full story, but only filling in the lines themselves.

I prefer the original ending. He deserves that ending so much. The period of time between when the police car stops, and before Rod gets out, that gets the point of this ending just as much anyway. Anyone watching that scene knows the implication. The subversion of Rod getting out doesn't change that.

And this doesn’t make sense anyway, since despite the house fire the equipment I’m sure would’ve still been found due to the materials being made of metal and all that And those two that died at the end obviously had scarring around their head so it should’ve been obvious something nefarious was going on in the house

Mary Taylor Kenya was a British colony. Also I think you’d have to look into influence and significance of Swahili on the African diaspora (e.g. celebration of kwanza which is a Swahili word or use of Swahili mainstream in films and cartoons). Also, the historical significance of east Africa being the birth place of humanity, and black suffering being a collective thing and not limited to those with slavery.... it makes sense to use Swahili

Wow, I had not idea this alternate ending existed and it answers my questions on why the movie ended the way it did. This alternate ending is DARK and TRUTHFUL (unfortunately). But I get why it probably played as a major bummer to test audiences. This ending is heavy, and says a lot about society and the system we live in. Again, I get why it was not used. But I think this ending would have made Get Out an even more powerful movie. And maybe it would appear in "horror" instead of "comedy" as it does on HBO on-demand.

I literally feel like crying watching this. honestly if we had this ending instead I feel like everyone would've taken this movie a lot more seriously instead of just seeing it as a satirical comedy(yes some people actually thought this was a comedy). The ending we got gave us a sense of relief but this version is more realistic, and harsh, and this probably would've made the film 10x more powerful.

It pains me to say this is a more probable scenario in real life. I’m glad Jordan Peele wanted us to feel good when we left that movie. He did that for us, and I appreciate it. This ending is very haunting in a way. They don’t show any other police officers or inmates around him. He is alone in the hallway on his way to his fate. He alone saved countless others. He made a sacrifice on his own, and he is fine with being the lone ranger.

Everrrrrrrrrrrry comment here is stating they prefer the actual ending. Which should be obvious on it's face, it's a win and he gets back to his life. How is the movie a reality check? No one is going in as a huge racist and coming out as MLK. I also don't see this ending as terrifying. He ended it, and them. Terrifying would be if they just got him. Sidenote: as far as prisons go, that one looked top of the line. I get using the bright lights, the bright white paint, new prison and new and clean jumpsuit for a stark contrast and affect, but it would be much more run down in reality.

J T Akinola - so you do not have an answer. Very intelligent of you. You give liberals a great reputation. I'll ask again: in what ways is this movie a reality check? Please don't respond if you're going to completely ignore the question and jump to insults. Liberals don't need more of that. Here's the fun part you were oblivious to: 'No one is going in as a huge racist and coming out as MLK.'
@noahhurley-abelew65366 жыл бұрын
Gotcha, thanks. It's been a few months for myself as well. And to actually answer J T, this movie is not a reality check to the people I interact with, as far as I know, because they are already aware of reality. There are, of course, others I interact with that would almost never admit to the reality.
@noahhurley-abelew65366 жыл бұрын
Thankfully Random answered my question, which was directed to their OP. I'm not sure what kind of reality you're in when you expect someone who is questioning your claim or statement to research what you mean. 'I love this movie, it has great social commentary.' 'What do you mean?' 'Go look it up.' Makes -0- sense.

After watching the alternate ending, it has left me completely and utterly speechless. Yes, this would have been a terrible ending and an emotional story coming to an end for pretty much everyone, but unfortunately if this were to happen in today's world, the African American man would probably be found guilty for his actions, especially being in a mostly white person neighborhood. This movie shows the extremely harsh reality that African Americans go through, and in some occasions, they are taken advantage of and are given very little to no respect at all. I'm sure many of you have seen the book To Kill A Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, and this movie brings back so many flashbacks to me reading that book in eighth grade. Tom Robinson was found guilty of raping Mayella for doing absolutely nothing. He did not commit any crime and instead Mayella tried to kiss him because she had never kissed a man before. Thinking back to everything going on in our world today, it really does show that discrimination is something that is a problem. The tragedies of Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd are always going to be something that we will all remember. Everyone wants the violence, segregation, and racism to end, but it feels like it keeps on getting worse and worse. Like W.E.B. Du Bois, an African American activist said, there is a feeling of "double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity.”
