As the “Trusted Teacher,” you’ve taught me a lot of things along my bearded journey. This has to be the most beneficial. I’m able to use some of my balms that were too greasy or didn’t provide enough hold again. Also a huge benefit when traveling... can leave the butters at home. Finally, some companies do not make butters, well now they sorta do.

For nights where I wash the beard; I use beard jelly from Bossman. After washing the beard, even with using conditioner, I want to make sure that it can’t dry up while I’m sleeping. The beard jelly does that. I’ll wake up and the beard will be supple and feel like I put the jelly on only a few hours ago. I wash the beard maximum twice a week, depending on what’s going on in life. Always jelly after. The stuff is amazing. I wouldn’t use it to go out in public as it does leave a greasy look/feel for the first 4 hours or so, but it literally lasts forever. On days I’m just chillin at home relaxing, and I feel like the beard deserves some extra love, I’ll throw in the jelly and just chill. It’s a staple in the rotation. On nights where I don’t wash the beard I’ll use oil, wait 5min or so, and then apply butter. Sometimes you’re just craving a scent, it happens. If that happens for me, and the scent doesn’t come in a butter, I’ll just use oil, wait 5min or so, and then use balm. I haven’t tried mixing the oil and balm like this... but I will. I’ll still use a little bit of oil first, wait 5min, and then use the mixture of balm and oil. Should be interesting. Thanks for the idea DanC!

I've done the hack after watching Jeff's IG post and I like the idea. I think it's a great idea for anyone on a budget or if they simply don't care to use butter. I myself can still feel the beeswax in my beard and it's something I don't enjoy at night. Most of all, I really enjoy seeing what all the different company's come up with and seeing the creativity. I love my have a large selection of butters, and I like taking 15 minutes every night to pick out which one to wear. It makes me happy!

Definitely finding that inspiration myself through the goodfellas like you, Scuba, and David. Actually made my first Vlog of this journey a little bit ago so wish me luck as I myself strive for that big beard and perhaps through it may we inspire even new fellas to grow their beards as well, as always love watching your vlogs, always learning something new from the trusted teacher 👍

I discovered this hack when I tried to fix my Beardbrand "lumber yard" utility balm... I couldn't bear the smell of it, so I put it in the oven (at a fairly low temp), until it melted completely and added a generous amount of oil (that I like the scent of), stirred it in, and let it firm back up. In the end it had a much softer consistency and smelled better.

Interesting how this is slowly becoming popular! I did this (during the day) before I even knew what beard butter was.. Another awesome video Dan. I have tried this method of mixing balm and oil about a year and a half ago. This was before the Butter starting to become more popular. I believe it worked well in my beard for a nighttime routine. Then butter came along and I went with it. For me the butter keeps my beard a little more hydrated overnight and easier to prep in the morning. This is a great video as we all have had that moment when we have overstretched our bearded wallets for the month but still need that butter. Thanks Dan. Keep up the great work. 👍🏼👊🏼🔥

I used to use this method when l didn't know butter was around. Plus I had to do this because of my health problems years ago. When I would put in balm my beard hair would literally get pulled out. So I had to figure this out. Ok here's the question, l was told you can't mix oil and balm together because it would leave your beard greasy. That's why l stop using products for awhile. Like I said this was years ago that l tried this. Now I have butter and my health is alot better.

This I will do tonight and possibly ever after. All my oils are light, and my balms may be (although the difference between light and medium hold balms isn't clear to me.) I prefer butters but have a lot of balms. I use 3 drops of oil and a fingernail of balm, probably not too far from what you showed. Your video revealed two mysteries: Why didn't this occur to me, and why wasn't I subscribed to Bad Dog Beard Co.'s KZbin channel? The second mystery was quickly taken care of. Thank you very much, and thank Jeff (and others?) who told you about it!
