It's also a great way to take less gear out with you for live performance. Your process allows for less items to backdown from your studio to perform live.

Excellent point, I completely agree.

Yes indeed man, one of my favorite features when I first got Maschine was how easy it was to take a note and turn it into an instrument.

Russplight You forget more than you think bro LOL, so much knowledge it's easy to do!

SoundsAndGear.com Russplight I was hoping this information was not too basic because in some ways, you're right its an obvious feature of Maschine. Like I mentioned in the video though, I think its very easy to get blinded by the concept of sampling records and lose sight of what the sampler in a general sense was made to do. Since I stopped using MIDI for my hardware synths, my output has increased quite amazingly. You can check out what I'm doing musically on my IG page @Altruwest

Altruwest Def not too basic man, like you say, many only consider one form of sampling, so I'm sure you've opened the eyes of many on how flexible you can get with a sampler. I always hated messing with multi samples and keyspans until I got Maschine lol, you can do so much with one note just by dropping it in. I just thought that was dope! You know I'm a fan of working with audio as well, and this is definitely a very flexible way of working.

SoundsAndGear.com LOL!! You guys are so right with always assuming "Sampling" means sampling a record or a song. I fell victim to this by boxing my thinking of sampling and not utilizing the obvious. LOL!!! SJ, we spoke about MIDI being a pain when messing with hardware synths. Flow-wise, this makes so much sense!!! NICE ONE Altruwest!!!

thank you for putting that out!!! never though of using a sampler that way and gaining poluphony out of a monophonic synth ... BRAVO!!!!!

Thanks for the video. A nice walk through the process. I do the same thing with Ableton as my sampler.

Your definitely responsible for opening my mind to stuff. Coming from the boom bap sample a record and go mentality. I realize that everything is a sample and I look forward to experimenting. Thanks for this video.
@Altruwest5 жыл бұрын
The sooner you realize that everything can be sampled, it opens up a whole new world of opportunities. This doesn't negate the fact that traditional boom bap has a specific sound palette, but as a creative you can dare to break some of those traditions and push something uniquely yours.

CRAZY... My first multi-timbral synth was a Roland JV-2080 Rack. HAHA I had 4 expansion cards in it. The World, Techno, and Vintage Synth had some GEMS. I would REALLY like to find those sounds in some sort of digital format!
@lardosian8 жыл бұрын
+jbizness If you have the cash the Roland Integra7 sound module was released around a year or two ago, it contains all the JV sounds and all the expansion cards come with it as standard...

The video quality is stunning ! You do lose the tonality a little also as you said it. I am going to retry this cause it could be great for Synth libraries. THANKS! Your boy Blake Peace

BlahBlah2Music Thanks fam! I didn't want to rush right into the complexities of multisampling, looping and recording chain because that's a much more advanced topic and it would potentially require 3 videos to really cover well. I like using this quick method because it gives me options. For example if I like the sound in my Mopho X4 or ATC-1, I sample it in a sweet spot and then begin to write with it. This allows me to explore other sounds in the keyboards/modules while I write and not be locked to that one sound. Once I'm done writing the composition, I can use MIDI to switch back to the original hardware if I need to track out the beat using the original hardware sound. In some cases this can be a good way to preserve the full sound quality, but in other cases the sampled version works better because I'm able to manipulate it in a way that the hardware just cannot achieve.
@BlahBlah2Music9 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand that. and you can create a whole lot of synth libraries with it and get the effect without having to switch on the hardware. that's actually a cool way. I think the key of this method is the range of the sound until the sound get "distorted" but It could be plenty playable if the range is not too high.
@Altruwest9 жыл бұрын
BlahBlah2Music exactly, even on the Hardware synth, there's ranges where the synth just does not play well nor sound good. You have to focus on the areas that are going to give you the sweetest tone and sound on the synth.
