Dear Amelia, as someone approaching her silver wedding anniversary next year I have never felt so heard all these years later. I always knew I’d never have the big wedding that all my girlfriends coveted. I knew from my early teens that wasn’t for me. Being a bridesmade is a big honour, because it is a friend showing you, they love your friendship, trust you completely and want you to be a big part on one of their most important days in their life. Also I totally get the part, where you love your friends big weddings but not wanting one for yourself. I had the small wedding my husband and I wanted, but only because of the pandemic. He comes from a huge family where every wedding is huge and my mother in law put a lot guests on our list, because it is the way it goes in their family. We were glad, when we had a limit of 5 households and had the most beautiful dream wedding in my in laws garden with only 23 guests (kids inclusive). Don't let anyone tell you, how your big day is supposed to be, because it is your day as a couple. That's all that matters ❤

First and foremost, getting to take part in any wedding of a loved one, no matter the size nor the location nor the budget, is only ever an honour, and when fulfilling the role of a Bridesmaid even more so. I'm from a traditional Catholic background and can understand some of the cultural wedding pressure. And the pressure to be married, and the perceived lack of status (in some people's eyes) without it. I'm not married, I'm 53, and have only been a bridesmaid once. Society is so hard on women! The expectations to get married and have babies is so much pressure. Just know, a lot of women get similar comments when they are past a certain age - it’s just magnified with you being on social media and sharing your life. I’ve been watching your videos consistently for seven years and I have to say this is the happiest I’ve ever seen you. Anybody watching your videos does so because your life seems so incredibly full with travel and friends and work and family. No one living a life like you do feels like you’re missing anything at least not from the outside, and someone who has been married, I can tell you it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. There are 1 million compromises that you don’t wanna make. The period of time when all your friends are getting married passes very quickly and then come the onslaught of divorces. So, do yourself a favor and skip all that enjoy your life and live it exactly how you intend. I don’t see why there should be so much focus on a wedding which is one day out of your life. It’s perfectly OK for it not to be for you and to enjoy the process for your friends. Everyone’s different and different is not wrong life lived outside of norms and social pressure can be extremely fulfilling in generally is.

I agree with everyone who says being a Bridesmaid / closely involved in someone’s wedding many times means you are very very loved by many people! ❤ I have a friend who has been bridesmaid several times and it’s because she is such an amazing person loved by many! She is now married herself (married to her soulmate who she didn’t meet until her late 30s) ❤ I’ve only been in one friend’s wedding and that was because the other bridesmaid got pregnant 😅 but it was still a huge honour and made me feel very special! There’s no higher honour than being asked to be your friend’s side on such a special day 😊❤ But also… as someone who’s had two crappy marriages myself… I don’t think a wedding is the biggest achievement in life nor is it for everyone (eg. My two ex husbands - I wouldn’t wish them on anyone)! 😂 Planning a beautiful wedding is fun but a glorious wedding certainly doesn’t guarantee a happy life.

I’ve been a bride twice and have never been a bridesmaid. Most of my close friends don’t want to get married or they eloped. I had a bigger wedding the first time round and had a nice intimate wedding the second time around with my wedding dress from Etsy. None of this defines you. Ignore those comments while you jet set around on your fabulous trips ✈️ 💕

I've been following you for years and I find you so genuine and so you! Your blogs are kind of like a relaxation time to me in order to distract myself from my job and also for me to practice my english accent. My advice for the hate you're getting... maybe try making a tik tok video saying this as well and also an instagram post because people who comment hate are not even your real followers! I think.. not sure. You can also try to think that these people commenting those comments are just having a bad day and they want to put all that vibe on the internet so don't take it personal. You saying "I've been lucky enough to experience that and understand it's not what I want" is the mindset you should focus on. if somebody comments rudely with things like that is just wrong on their part. You're sharing happy and sad parts of your life that you decide how to live. So live, mind your happiness and don't bother listening to rude people cause they'll just tear you down with no other intention of doing that!
