I would recommend putting some supports under the sand bath , wheel and playground. This is so when the hamster burros underneath it doesn’t crush her. I love that you are using a water bowl and water bottle for choices. Love the bin cage and I know she will have a great life with you!❤️

You can tell just how surprised and genuinely happy she is by how she’s exploring and doesn’t seem particularly frightened by having such open space compared to that metal prison from before. 🎉🎉🎉

your set up is good. but it be better if you added some more hides and tunnels. that play area is cute but not giving a lot of enrichment and takes up a lot of room so id recomrnd removing, to leave more space for things like branches, cork logs and hides. also researching different sprays you can add would be nice. ones I can name of the top of my head are: oat, millet, flax seeds. also some things to add for foraging are herbs and flowers. for those and the spreys, etsy is a good place to find them. also a good place for enriching and nutritious food is etsy. (sorry if u mentioned any of these things already and I missed it haha)

Would definitely recommend you watch Victoria Raechel on KZbin, she has fantastic videos on hamster care. You need to press the bedding down to compress it when you've added the bedding into the enclosure, for stable borrows. Would definitely recommend you get some platforms for your heavier items (wheel, sand bath, etc.) You could also add some cork logs, grapevine wood, a multi chamber hide, sprays, forage, bendy bridges (make sure to plug up the holes with moss or paper based bedding)
@xonx30562 жыл бұрын
Naturalistic tips: get darker bedding, maybe something from the garden section (not sure what the us has) just make sure it has no added fertilizers etc. Cork logs, bamboo roots and wine woods are fantastic enrichment and naturalistic decor for all types of small animals. Seed sprays can be "planted" into the substrate to make it look like it has live plants. There are also live plants like snake plants and herbs you can use in either the substrate (if you use dirt etc) or just planted in pots, just have them on stilts so they don't fall on your hammy 😊 wooden wheels look more natural too, I prefer the ones covered with cork so the hamster has more grip while running. Of course you can have as natural and as colourful enclosure as you want, love to see another hamster in a better home ❤️

One of the 'chew toys' that came with the hamster is actually a bird seed treat stick (a stick covered in honey and bird seeds....) So the hamster must have eaten all the seeds off and now is left with the stick

I like to use bendy bridges, multi chamber hides, chew toys, sprays, cork logs, coconut fiber substrate, hay, fruits, veggies, multiple hideout options, stands for the wheels, and forage toys for my hamster. Also, hamsters usually like to hide, so I like to fill up so space and make hiding places for if they get spooked. Your new hamster is so adorable! 🐹❤

If I may make a food suggestion for the hamster. Hamster are omnivorous so they eat both plants and meat. So maybe you can provide mealworms or crickets for her. I don't recommend dried mealworms because vicora Rachel says they are like potato chips for hamsters

@JaydaAshlyn_2 жыл бұрын
@@curse7469 the live ones are healthy because you gut load them (feed them veggies before feeding them to the animals). The dry ones have very little nutritional value because theyre dead lol they dont have the good healthy stuff in them

Your cage is great but there are obviously some good things to add but my main concern is the like play jungle gym thing we're she can go up on because it is quite high up and if she falls she will probably fall on the wood aswell.
@kellykoziel16672 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too! Maybe add some of the bedding and such onto it to make it a bit more safe
@ldegraaf2 жыл бұрын
I also think a bridge with moss to make getting in and out of the sand bath safer and easier would be a good idea. Especially while she is getting used to her new home I've heard of hammies that have gotten spooked by a sound/shadow and ran off a higher ledge in an effort to get to safety. Plus, all of the heavy items need to be on platforms or have legs so that they don't collapse if she decides to burrow under them. This is a great start though and I love how you are using items that are cheaper, but still safe and fun for the hammy. She is one lucky girl and I can't wait to see how the cage changes over time.
@AnoukMali78992 жыл бұрын
That’s a great cage for her. You are such a lovely pet mommy. She must be very happy to be with you now! It was such a joy seeing her explore! It is recommended to put some layers of hay into the bedding. Hay gives stability to the nests and tunnels. I also offer lots of tissue paper stripes to our hamster. He loves to collect them for his nests. You can also give her some hay and dried herbs to play with. We also provide plenty of hides, houses and cork tunnels for our hamster. You can also put some leaves and twigs into the cage, also moss and forest ground. I was also recommended putting everything, esp. the heavier items, on stilts as everything can become pretty unstable when hamsters dig their tunnels into the bedding.

You could replace that platform where you put the water bowl with a multi- chamber hide and place the items on top. Nite angle has several different kinds of multi chamber hides. I would put it on stilts so it doesn’t collapse if she burrows under it ( I would add them to the sand bath as well) You could get some sprays and herbs for her to forage for. Thanks for rescuing her! She is so cute!

It's such a bittersweet moment when you introduce them to their new cage / home. That sweet baby was probably thinking "whoa all this space to run around" compared to her last cage. It makes me so upset that some people aren't educated on owning these small animals. That old cage was so so small, made me sad. :(

Look really cool, but I whould add some more places to hide or get a small Multi chamber hide by niteangle and put the wheel on top of it . I would put some supports on the bottom of the sand bath and a Bendy bridge to get in it. Also I would check out Victoria Rachel‘s channel(on youtube) maybe it will give you some great foraging ideas! What I use for foraging in my hamsters cage are sprays, lots and lots of toys filled with food and we don’t have a food bowl at all we just sprinkle The food around the cage

Something my hamster loves; I use shoeboxes as multi chamber hideouts. I also put empty Pringles cans that I cut the bottom off underneath bedding since my old girl doesn’t burrow (not sure why, I give her plenty of bedding). She loves it and usually makes that her little human made burrow. I just make sure she’s not eating any of the cardboard.

if you ever make another bin cage try using industrial strength velcro to hold the water bottle.....if you use it you can attatch the water bottle inside the bin in easy reach of ham and then you dont have to drill those holes in the side but just a shallow water bowl works to
@nothing-ro6bc2 жыл бұрын
I would also recommend sprays! I use millet sprays and my hamster LOVE them I and going to get different types. I highly recommend them but if your hamster is eating too much of the spray then remove it and only put the spray in the cage once each week but I really recommend sprays!

That’s such a cute cage! She looks just like my hammie! I did notice that the water bowl could potentially be dangerous since she’s so small. If she falls in, she could drown. This is a great setup but I would recommend adding toys to chew or foraging toys for the hamster and adding sticks like there are cheap stick sets in pet stores like apple sticks etc and my hamster loves those and I also recommend spreading the food around the cage because that actually great enrichment and if you want to see if your hamster is eating fine then put some food in the bowl but also leave food around the cage.I dont really like water bowls because I'm scared that my hamster will fall in and get a shock form it so I prefer water bottles but that is my opinion. But overall this is a good setup.
