Showing the AM band on the R-8600 using a 100m longwire .One annoying quirk is you need to switch to ANT1 for 1602khz & above.

Nice compact-looking yet functional receiver! And God help me, what an impressive AM crowd! No electro-pollution and the band back-to-back packed with stations! Reminds me of what European MW was up until around 15 years ago.

Most of these stations are relatively close though- we could do with a few more frequencies clear for the exotic stuff (Asia etc.). There are quite a few regional AM outlets marked for closure in SE Aus over the next few years so it's likely that DX will improve.

Greetings!! Very informative video. It gave me joy. Tell me, how does 8600 receiving radio stations behave in the long wave range (150-300 kHz)?? Since childhood, I really like the range of long waves. Despite the small number of radio stations. I would appreciate any feedback. Sincerely, Oleg

Certainly the R-8600 is an improvement over the predecessor the R-8500. It has better RF performance. I noticed no MW breakthrough onto LW, which you would expect from a receiver of this calibre. The colour LCD is a nice departure from the usual basic displays. This rx can be used as an SDR (I haven't tried that yet). Is this info helpful?

would also add - the connectors on this rx are propriety & cables for older Icoms won't fit on this unit. can be hard to find a DC cable to power from the car's 12v DC. I had to get a cable especially made up. So that I do not like. It should have used the same connectors as older Icoms.

Understand you. Due to the fact that I have to work with receivers of different companies and times in my life, I am not afraid of playing with plugs and sockets. I have to look for any factory and do it myself. Thank you for your attention to the viewers of your channel!! Success and victories!!

@@dxer22000 Thank you for your answer. I suspected in my heart that there would be no great improvement. Nevertheless, it's nice to know that ICOM is not standing still and is releasing new boxes. Which are outwardly more attractive than past times!! From myself, I can say that we could make a DVI output to a LARGE external monitor. It would be happier. Sincerely, Oleg

BTW - the signals cutting out after 1593khz is possibly a firmware bug in this receiver. Today is worked from 1602khz & above on ANT3 input. I have notified ICOM
