Having a professional work on your car, as opposed to doing things yourself, actually makes a ton of sense. Your car is crucial to your business, so having a professional do even what others deem as mundane assures that the car will work at optimum performance, and since most professionals guarantee their work, you are protected if mistakes are made.

It takes years of misery and thousands of dollars in trial and error to get good at fixing cars. I've been there. But then they change how cars work so your old skills are no longer valid. They do this on purpose to keep you from fixing your car. A few decades ago they invented those star bit sockets and screws to keep you from fixing your car. You had to go to the dealer. Now you can buy the sockets. They're always doing stuff like this. You can't even super-top off your gas anymore. If you do it throws off the computer settings. Leave a little air.

I must say, you did nothing (NOTHING) wrong with the way you handled the flat tire. You are a man and every man has different skills. Your skills are just as important as other skills. Please don’t think anymore about the disheartened comments you received. Keep doing what you do best and leave other things to the experts. On that note, a pump to air up your tires is a good idea. They plug into your car and you can pump up your tires when their low. Very easy. Take care, take a deep breath and move on to more adventures. Please people have more empathy for others and know that we’re all different and that’s a good thing 🤗

Jacob, the 'donut' is a spare. It's sole purpose is to get you to a place where you can get a new tire, or to repair your tire. They're intended to prevent you from being stranded. Not meant to keep driving on it for days. In fact they're only rated for 50 MPH. So in hindsight using the spare 'donut' is preferred over fixaflat because fixaflat will destroy the TPMS sensor inside that tire. Now that you've used fixaflat in it, you'll need to pay a shop $85 or more to replace that sensor. If you're able to physically jack up the car, replacing the flat with the donut and driving it to the nearest repair shop or tire shop is the ideal senerio.
@protorhinocerator1428 ай бұрын
It's smaller to save size and weight. It's good enough to get you to town and get a real tire put on instead of the flat.

The donut IS a spare tire, just to get you to the tire shop. A lot of shops won't touch a tire that has fix a flat in it.
@oldsouthmike658 ай бұрын
I think Jacob is referring to a full sized spare, as in an extra tire in you car you can put on your car. I have a full sized spare in my car. Like the Jeep Wrangers or Ford Bronco's that have the full sized spare on the back. Some pickup trucks have full sized spare tires under the truck.
@surfer53528 ай бұрын
Most new cars no longer have any kind of a spare. They put a TRK (Tire repair kit) and an air compressor. (To save weight)
@Moizee8 ай бұрын
Donuts and spare are different. Example is the tire on a jeep you see in the back is a spare tire that is legit a tire with a rim to replace a messed up one. The donut is a little fix to get you to a tire shop to buy a replacement tire. Huge difference. Donuts aren't good to drive around on for much time.

What kind of "man" is concerned about another man's manliness? Real men lift each other up, not put each other down. Keep being yourself and don't listen to anyone! As for the air pump situation, I bought one off of Amazon and it's easily one of the best items I've ever purchased. The one that I bought is by Morpilot and it's about as big as a brick, so it doesn't take up too much space. Have a good day and safe travels!
@Geneswagger8 ай бұрын
Jacob, you can get a plug kit for your tire, which you can do by yourself; however, you can't patch a tire by yourself because you have to physically take the tire off the rim to get to the inside of the tire to put a patch on the hole. Driving on a tire with that low of air pressure in the tire can damage the inside of the tire. If you put the doughnut on your car, drive on it until you get to an area where you can have your regular tire repaired.

Jacob, my ex husband had no idea about cars either! I was lucky in the fact that my dad was a police officer & he had a brother who was a mechanic. Between the two of them, they taught me how to check tire pressure, top off the fluids, and change the oil or change a flat tire. You're not less of a man because you don't know anything about cars. It might help you to learn a little in case you ever get stuck on a back road somewhere. Wishing you safe travels my friend!

At the end of the day, you did what you thought you needed to do in the moment. And it worked out. It’s a lot easier to watch something and judge how to handle a situation when you’re not actually in said situation. As for the “spare tire” and “donut” terms, they are usually interchangeable to a lot of people. To other people they may not see them as interchangeable. We don’t all think or call things the same thing… and that’s perfectly fine.

Hey Jacob. I'm a bit of a camera nerd. First camera that comes to mind is the DJI Pocket 3. It's a little unconventional but gives excellent results and really good at vlogging. 1" sensor and fast lens with a good gimbal means great low light performance. It also shouldn't have dust issues because it's a fixed sealed lens. It's compact with lots of cool accessories and grips. You can place it on the ground and it will track you almost 360 degrees walking around it.

I'm a female mechanic, most of these "manly" types have tendency to mess up their cars doing stuff they have no idea how to do before they bring it to us to fix their mistakes. Don't feel any shame. And yes I've saved a few trips and vacations by being prepared with a air pump and a plug kit, it's something that's very easy to learn and only takes 2 minutes, that's why lots of places don't charge for a plug hoping you'll come back to buy tires when you need them. Fix-a-flat only works for very minor leaks and throws off the balance of your tires. I also have AAA, never waited more then a hour except during the holidays, and when my car died in Cades Cove.

Nobody can be an expert on everything, and sometimes you just have to make the best decision in the moment. In the end, the tire got fixed and you are safe and that is a success. When I have bought tires at Discount Tire the warranty info tells you not to use Fix a Flat/similar products, but they will patch a tire or replace it for free if necessary. I do recommend a tire inflator, the one I have is the Slime brand and they make all different sizes. Way easier to use than the old style, you enter the desired PSI and it stops (although I do recommend checking PSI after.) Cameras- I have never used the Sony you showed but most of my cameras have been Sonys and I have been pleased with them, although I mainly do still photos. My OG Sony from 2002 still works! Often times you can fill the tire and it's enough to get you home or to a repair shop. It sure beats changing a tire on the side of the road. Tires can be plugged and run on that indefinitely, but even if you plug it, you still need to be able to fill it back up. 😊

This is why repair places exist, to assist us 'unmanly' types.

Hey, I'm completely inept at car repair myself. I can fix a flat and that's about it, haha.

The one thing I noticed was that you didn't read the instructions on the can of fix a flat. I have used this stuff lots of times. The instructions say to shake well. It would have filled the tire, then you drive around to spread it around. I have driven on fix a flat for months. It works great as long as you shake it up first! That's it! I love your videos!

omg! What's wrong with these commenters? Maybe they should all start their own Manly you tube channel. Jacob please continue to be yourself. Hugs from N.C.

It’s so easy for people to get on the internet and spew hate. How miserable their lives must be. Ignore those idiots and keep being positive ❤️

If they had bothered to watch your videos they would know you have said multiple times you know nothing about cars. You did the right thing and got it fixed.

Saw your video today. Sorry you were hassled about the tire issues you had. I feel you did the best you could with the resources you had available to you. By the way, the tire in the back of your car is officially called a spacesaver spare tire. It is lighter and smaller than the full size tire. Most manufacturers use them these days. Lighter for better MPG. and smaller to fit your space. At best it is a stopgap solution. The issue is that they recommend you keep below a certain speed, usually below the interstate speed limits. You can typically find that info printed on the side of your tire. That may vary depending on the tire used. Once upon a time it was more common to provide a full size spare, and to repair flats yourself. Two common methods I know of are to apply a patch inside of the tire over the puncture. That requires removing the tire from the wheel. Not an easy task in the field. The other is to insert a rubber plug into the puncture to seal it off. Honestly, I feel those tasks are better left to a tire store which will have the equipment to perform the task properly. Using the can of stop flat was a reasonable solution to try. As for cameras, Canon no longer makes your camera. That is why it is hard to find. You may want to consider a newer version such as the G7X or the SX470. I believe they both have larger sensors than what you are currently using. Theoretically that should provide better low light performance. Canon also made an attempt at a vlogger camera called the V10. Its a little different than what you are used to, but may tick off all your requirements. If you want to think even farther outside the box, consider the Insta 360 X4. It has a larger sensor as well. Another alternative is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Both are a departure from what you are used to, but can serve you well once you get used to them. Hope this might be helpful to you.

A man goes out and earns the money to pay other people to do the jobs for him. I wouldn't know how to change a tire either, that's why I pay AAA to come out and do it for me.

Hi Jacob. I don’t know what is wrong with people these days when it comes to criticism. You did nothing wrong. Your rationalization made sense. There were many ways to handle the situation and you chose the way that you decided was right for you. What’s the big deal. It worked out well for you.

I have been able to do many things, and repair things myself, but as i get older, I find myself needing help with more things. We can't do everything-please feel good about yourself-we love you!!

You did everything correctly. I plug tires and it takes a lot of force. I'm happy you were able to use can for tire and got you to a shop. Lots of folks couldn't have. In fact you should have one in yours and Jens car.Clean winshield is always necessary.

BTW, more and more insurance companies are charging a flat tire as a CHARGEABLE accident. As much as you travel, a stand alone emergency highway problem company would be a good idea.

The people criticizing you need to take a step back and realize they are childishly insulting a complete stranger over the internet instead of taking a second to be kind and offer info. You have friends all over the country who love and adore you. You are a human being who is growing just like the rest of us. Keep living and learning dude!

You're not an idiot, don't call yourself that. We had an incident with a deer a couple weeks ago, and did our own repairs on our van. Some people would have suggested we go the whole insurance route but our car is worth less than the premium LOL. So we did it ourselves. You're doing great, Jacob. Keep driving that lonesome road. We're all here with you. Honestly, think you did fine counting the circumstances that happened. As ex truck drivers we know all too well how hard it is to find a shop out there. Look at it this way, you made it, it got fixed, and you're back at it. Call that a bunch of success right there! We love you, Jacob!
