This is the most timely and possibly the most important discussion TXG could have with the viewers. You addressed it very well. Very impressed with your thought process and degree of introspection and openness. The game of golf can still have its snooty players, but it can ill afford to have its fitters and teachers turn their collective noses up and away from the "common" golfer any longer. If the game of golf is to survive and thrive, it will have to appeal to both the skilled and not-so-skilled folks. Good on you guys!

This is the kind of discussion that would draw and keep someone in the game of golf. This will be my fourth year playing and I wish I had started earlier. I'll be getting and iron fitting this season for the first time. My only regret is you guys aren't in my neighborhood to get that fitting. Great stuff. You didn't miss anything. Making your customer and golfer comfortable to start with moving all the way down to loft and lie angle. You hit it all.

Great content guys, I’ve had 3 club fits in past 35yrs. The first 2 we’re nowhere near as professional as my last and they subconsciously steered me towards a particular brand of club and with that came pressure to buy a particular brand/model of club. I played off a 9hcp and ended up selling my fitted clubs because they failed to deliver results. I continually purchased quality pre-owned clubs thereafter to lower my hcp, without real success. I subsequently smashed my shoulder and knee in an auto accident which ceased play for 12yrs. I’ve been playing again for nearly 12mths and playing bogey golf. I’ve just had a great club fitting with no bias towards a given brand of club or shaft. I’m striking the ball well on an 80/20 ratio and I’m heading back for a tweak in loft and lie within 2wks. Im glad to be back playing and can assure TXG viewers that a club fitting by a non-retail aligned expert like TXG has measurable benefits. And, as the lads mentioned, you have a platform to start from. There’s no obligation to buy. You do however, have an idea on set up and related costs to change all or some clubs as determined by your budget and performance needs. TXG is awesome! Keep up the excellent content lads because high handicap players gain from your experience and advice.🏌🏻‍♂️👍

I am a beginner golfer (literally, I’ve never played!), so discovering your videos is such a gift. At the advice of a good friend and avid golfer, I was fitted for a set of used clubs last week. I wasn’t sure my friend’s advice made sense, but after watching this video, I guess it was! On Tuesday, I take my first lesson. I hope the instructor is patient! 😊

Speaking of a young fitter...I (23) just started at Golf Galaxy this September (2020), fueled by my passion for golf and helping people in general. I’ve been watching this channel for a year now and I’ve gained so much knowledge that I now apply as a custom fitter! I love the journey that the fitter and player go through in order to set the player up for success (not just soon after the fitting but into the future as well)! Its such a joy learning and applying all the smallest details that can effect different characteristics of a swing.🔸Thanks to you guys for sharing your processes which has enabled my success as a custom fitter!

This is one of the best videos I've not only seen on TXG, but on the variety of golf KZbin channels. It's amazing to see a left-handed player (Matt) switch to right-handed clubs to simulate a high-handicapper and then see how the fitting process WORKS. I've been truly inspired to get a full fitting to potentially get back to my below 10 handicap status (have been as low as 4, but currently at ~15 due to lack of play over the years). Thank you Ian and Matt for your excellent, thorough work and instruction. I only wish I could travel to Toronto to work with Ian. Thanks again!

I just became a fan after watching this video. I’m definitely a high handicap weekend golfer who’s trying to get better and smoke my buddies in the process. I plan on purchasing a set of forged clubs this year and definitely will add a custom fitting. Last time I purchased a set of iron from Golf Galaxy I felt like all they wanted was my money. The guy acted like he was giving a custom fitting with some off the shelf $500 irons but his effort to ensure I got the level of attention you gave him during this fitting. Now that I done my research and watched your video along with a few others I think I’m ready for a fitting with my new irons. Thanks so much for the great information.

Another solid video. As someone who plays high 80s lows 90s it made a lot of sense. And for my low 90s are typically bc of poor play off of the tee. But this def shows why it's important to know the patterns and be able to work how the equipment fits to the player and not player to equipment

Hey guys! Wow- you guys really hit the nail on the head with this video. I've only been playing golf for about 4 years now but can't get enough. I love the sport. I'm currently playing at an 18 handicap and always felt I wasn't good enough to get fitted. My insecurities about the fitter thinking I was terrible if he saw me swing in front of him. Unfortunately, I just bought a set of irons (Taylormade P-790s) off the shelf. Wish I would have seen this video before I bought the clubs. I do love the clubs but would have been nice to be fitted perfectly in to a set. Keep up the great content!

Just found your videos yesterday, and this is a great one. As a 21 handicapper with used clubs (playing for 2 years after switching from 25 years of tennis), just kept telling myself got to get better at ball striking before getting fit. You do a great job of explaining why you don’t have to hit the ball consistently square to benefit, and explain in detail how and why. Amazing how Matt hits from the wrong side that well. Thank you for such detailed videos!

I just want to say that it is amazing how Matt has the ability to swing ambidextrous and have the ability to control the quality of his swing from the "weaker" side. He swung right handed in your Strong Loft video and was killing it. I know he dulled his swing down for this video for the sake of the content needed and that is mind blowing. He's like having your own programmable swing robot! Lol

Im about a 15 handicap and just got fitted 2 days ago (TM P790). This video brought up all the concerns Ive had since I started golfing 1.5 years ago. I just thought I needed to get better first before I go embarrass myself at a fitting. Im just waiting for my new clubs and hope to get out there soon. The fitting was good too, because it showed me that I was hitting the ball with my club face open (+10 degrees). So we did some drills to close the face a bit.

Great video guys. As someone who is only 8 group lessons and a handful of 9 hole rounds into my golf journey I found this really insightful. I had my first fitting experience recently for a new driver and really enjoyed the process. I went into the fitting wanting/expecting to buy an M1 driver and ended up leaving with an M2 due to significantly better performance stats. I like the idea of your clubs choosing you rather than you choosing them! Looking forward to more content for novices like me. One minor piece of feedback is that there are an awful lot of terms used during videos like this which it would be helpful to explain e.g. Dynamic Loft

First, I really enjoy your channel, so keep up the excellent work. I am a high handicapper and recently went for my first club fitting at a Club Champion; it was not a good experience at all. Based on your youtube channel, TXG seems to have genuine intentions to help the golfer perform better while also being considerate of their money. For this reason, it is important to mention to your viewers that all fitters do not have those same intentions. Most, if not all, fitters are custom club builders, and that is how they make their livelihood; if they know that they will not be making a new club for you, they will likely lose interest. In other words, there is a high likelihood that they want to sell you that $2k iron set, even if it's not much of a difference from your current set or all you need is a loft/lie adjustment. If a high handicap golfer has a decent set of clubs, I would not recommend going for a club fitting until you get lessons unless you are not concerned with finances.

awesome stuff ! beeing that hcp 18 golfer this is very interesting, Iam right there in the middle - allways been told that my swing "looks good, how can u be a hcp 18 golfer w that swing"... well this kindda explains some of it to me, never had anything else than 2nd hand or off the rack equipment, didnt want to, before my strike was consistent enough to get some stable measurements that actually could be used for anything during a fitting... now its just where to start :-)

Great episode guys, very appropriate for the majority of us golfers out there. I am a 15hcp and I believe that many mid - high handicappers have a sense that there could be some benefit, but the issue, from my limited experience, is that many fitting outfits do not take as unbiased an approach as you guys appear to. Examining all elements of the club/bag setup fundamentals with a focus to deliver more consistency is the key for most golfers - I tend to feel that the fitters I've seen are simply trying to sell me something vs. helping me play my best. Again, my experience has been limited with fitters, frankly, because of that. What you guys are doing shows that there is a better experience out there, that we deserve and should expect. Thanks and keep doing what you're doing guys!

You are so righteous!!! Looking back when I was a higher handicapper, regular fitters just wanted to make a good deal: as Ian said: 2 degrees upright, light but expansive shaft and an expansive head was always the solution. But nobody had the gorgeous knowledge that Ian has. He really nails it. Never get fit by a different fitter but at TXG!!!

That was really awesome! I've been hooked on your channel since you did the Sterling single length irons fit for Matt and now I feel I'm binge-watching. LOL. I'm actually playing wishon single length irons with steel fiber i80's 36.5 length.. I'm a high handicap and never have done an in-depth fitting such as you provide a txg. I guess my fitting was more static on the Range hitting board ,radar gun, Etc. This video has driven home the point that I really need to be fitted according to a monitor and explore all the different options.. I guess as well that playing with a broken collar bone i had for 20 years might effect my swing...

Nice video. You guys are making everyone feel welcome. I like that. But you mentioned that some good things can happen during a fitting and you are 100 percent right on that. I just was fit for a driver and came away with a lower angle of attack swing that changed a lot. I tried using that swing on my driver, woods and hybrids and it works for all of them. That 35 minute driver fitting changed my golfing world. I walked away a better ball striker. A Ping G 410 plus driver with a Distanza shaft is being made for me by Ping as a result of that fitting. I am anxious to get it. Should be arriving in a week or so. Nice job Ian and Matt. Spider Dubiel

Guys...this is a ”must see” video !!! It encourages me to go to a clubfitter! I’m playing in the 80’s at my best, pretty consistent in my irons errors and terrible all the time with my driver, I mostly play my 3 iron from the tee. I’ve a ”particular” swing, a spontaneous stack and tilt kind of swing. My buddies always make fun of me because of that and I’m ashamed of showing my swing to a clubfitter ! So thanks to you I maybe gonna make the step ! Thanks again! Can you make a video with an average player modifying his current set of golf clubs, for lie, loft, swingweight and stuff ? Thanks !

It's a good concept Matt, and in fact there's some takeaways even from this video that would be considered budget friendly fitting advice. Lie/loft adjustments are not expensive, so booking a fitting and getting that adjusted on a set of irons is something that we would recommend as an accessible place to start.

When I started golfing about 45 years ago, I purchased a full set of Pings. I had a modicum of success, becoming a solid 5 hcp and at my lowest a 2. I abruptly quit playing about 20 years ago. Seven years ago, some beginning golfer friends asked me to join them at their local club. I dusted off my Pings an got interested in playing the game again. I beginning to play more frequently and treated myself to a new set of Callaway X2 Hots (at the recommendation of a local pro). Of course as I got older I lost a lot of distance and I didn't feel I gained a lot with the new clubs. One day, I decided to do a test. I had my Ping 7 iron re-gripped and took it to the range to compare it with my new 7 iron. I didn't notice any significant gain in distance or control. In my "day" I could carry my Ping 7 iron 150 yards. Now, only 122. Same for my new Callaway 7 iron. I am old, decrepit and badly out of shape. I "carry" the ball notoriously short distances, even when I hit the ball solidly. While I love your videos, I am kind of skeptical as to whether a club fitting would help me significantly. My reasoning is that if a modern 7 iron doesn't give me any noticeable improvement over my 50 year-old ancient Ping 7 iron, what could I ever expect a "fitting" to do for me? Cheers and thanks for your many interesting posts.

As a junior golfer (16 years old). I recently picked up golf again about 3 months ago (previously played when I was 9 or 10). I have managed to get my handicap down from 30 to 24 in this time. I feel as though as I am nearly starting from scratch I will still have fairly major swing and therefore swing speed changes within at least throughout the next 6 months. At what point would you recommend getting clubs fitted for me so that they would be optimal for me for a decent amount of time? I currently practice 4 times a week so I'm hoping for some improvement.

like the video, "Us" high handicapper's like this kid of vids dealing our kind of player. I've been playing this game for way to long with minimal improvement. This vid will motivate me to "maybe" get fitted... look forward to the follow up vid.

Great video. Good explanation of what you guys at TXG can do. Big improvement over the big box buying experience.

I went from an18-8 handicap by radically changing my golf without being fitted. I went from the conventional golf swing, to Moe Norman’s single plain swing. Now I’m ready for a fitting

Once again another great video and thanks for listening to us. I was one who had wanted to see the more inconsistent, higher handicap player go through a fit. Really looking forward to this series of videos to come.

Thanks for doing videos for mid/high handicap!I found this can be more related to me rather than seeing 110mph swing speed and hitting good shots 9 out of 10 times.

I'm 72 and never thought was good enough to be fitted. I was into titleist 350 and I was surprised to be fitted into a titleist club, never thought I would ever hit a titleist golf club. Also ended up with tsr1 driver and seven wood. So give it a try, you might be surprised what you end up in.

Well ! how about clubs bought mostly are about looks, not function. Brand new shiny paint job still beats common sense . You are educating people in such a way that they will make the right choice. Keep up the good work men.

Very interesting and makes me want to come to Canada for a fitting. You really are great! The point of getting fit is completely undisputed, but I think it also depends on the fitter. As in any profession there are better ones and not so good ones. How to know the one from the other...?

I'm sure I'm not the only beginner that would like to see the fitting process for those 35-50 handicappers. I'm sure lots of people watch these videos and would love to get into the game but end up taking in so much information that it become frustrating rather than encouraging. Maybe due to not knowing where to begin, should I get fitted at a beginners level, how to choose my first set of clubs being that my swing will probably change so much during the course of the first few weeks, months, and even years. Where do the beginners begin?

I'm 6'7" and am struggling with consistency. I am a 20 handicap but feel the correct fitting of clubs would be essential to any golfer. If your clubs aren't the correct fit for you, how are you expected to be consistent? I am hoping to get a fitting within the next couple years

My concern with getting an iron fitting now is will the correct fitting change as I improve? Specifically lie angle, I am worrying about. I have an issue now with coming over the top and tilting my hands down to compensate. I presume that gives me a steeper lie angle at the moment. If I correct that issue, will my lie angle maybe be flatter and then I’ve got irons fitted with the wrong lie angle. The flip side is, my current irons are too short for me and it’s hurting my progress…

I’m a 24 handicap, last year I realized through a testing that having irons bent 1.5 upright really helped my slight left flight (I’m a lefty) as a high handicapper I’ll take every bit of help I can get. Maybe that changes as I get better.. I dunno. Open to change if it helps my game.

Hi Guys, As always another great video. You guys hit the nail on the head. I used to play left handed, but due to an accident, I was forced to switch to left handed. I'm 66 years young and I've lost a ton of distance, so much that I am getting on the green 1 stroke most times over regulation. I used to play to a 13 handicap, ten years ago, but now I play to a 20 hdcp. But I can have some good rounds, 11 times last year in the mid seventies, later on in the season after the course hardened up. Thanks to my short game, I guess. Any suggestions, in a set of clubs that I could get some extra distance. Thanks Barry

Great video. I’ve been fitted twice for irons (Mizuno) and both times I was nervous! After watching this, never again. (Wish I could come to Canada 🇨🇦 from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 but that would be the most expensive fitting ever 😂)
