txg.ca - More awesome results for Sam this time with an iron fitting! We took his iron game to the next level by adjusting lie angle and going to a new high ball speed iron head, leading to more distance, better forgiveness on mishits and better overall consistency.

Great vid, but this was FIVE YEARS AGO! Wish you had more examples of high handicappers getting fit. Maybe I’m not seeing them because it isn’t called out in the title? Anyway, I picked up some good info for my club fitting. I like that you showed how the lie angle on his existing set could be adjusted. I’m sure he’d be excited that you straightened the shape of his shot, but who wouldn’t want an additional 20 yards?!

The Sam series has been absolutely phenomenal!! Fitting him thru the entire bag clearly demonstrated the kind of improvement an average golfer could potentially experience with a high quality fitting.It's amazing how small adjustments can deliver big rewards in dispersion, distance and overall confidence. Considering how the fitting process went for him, seems that the ideal fitting sequence should be Driver - Irons - Hybrid/Woods - Wedges, correct? You guys are the absolute best - learning a lot and always looking forward to your next video!

After playing the same set of irons for 20 years, This video motivated me to get my first ever club fitting and boy do I wish I did it year’s ago! I was hitting my 7 iron an average of 134 yards with it pulling left and struggling to not hit it fat. I learned that my lie was off and that I have a moderate swing speed. Fitter put Wilson D7’s in my hand with lie adjusted and regular flex graphite shafts. This new fit sent the ball on average 160 yards with minimal dispersion! For context, I could NOT hit my old 5 iron as far and good as this 7 iron! Thank you gents for the content and making the fitting process feel less intimidating! I would have never gone in to do this without this type of content!

As much as I like seeing Matty smash it out there 350+, this series with Sam and other handicap golfers show the value of a true and proper fit. I still can't get over the performance improvement. Fantastic story again Guys. I'm convinced the premium fit option is the game changer as most players actions are way more grooved than we imagine. Fitting to this is preferable to swing changes,which the worlds best struggle to achieve.

Ian and Matt, another great video. I think it would be interesting to see a mashup of two types of videos you guys have already done in the past, a fitting of an amateur player, whether it be Sam or someone else, but done in the live setting. Also, I went through the ball fitting process last week, and it was great. The feedback from the process helped confirm that I was playing the right ball, and the numbers backed it up. I think it would be an interesting video for the general public.

This video has made me realise how poor my fitting for my Mizuno was and how having bladed wedges has detrimentally effected my wedge play. All I need to do now is move to Canada and get a proper fitting for all my clubs. The other problem now is who to trust in the UK to perform as good and comprehensive fitting as you guys do. Suggestions? PLEASE from a 15 handicap player who hits his 8 iron straight but only 120 yds.

Great video - thanks. I am very glad you mentioned the part about making sure the modern lofts fitting into your bag. For many people (like Sam and myself), 5 or even 6 iron should be the longest iron in their bag if the 6 iron is 26-27 degrees . I actually have 2 "7" irons in my bag now, because i have a mixed set of blades in my p-7, and more game improvement irons in my 7-5. Kinda wacky - but it works well...

Excellent demonstration. Half way through the video I was think ... "why can Ian just adjust the lie angle on his Mizunos?" and then you answered the question! I guess the beauty of a forged iron is you can always adjust it later without have to buy a new set. Great video.

Lots of variables there John but for Sam with ~82MPH getting 170 yards was great, and you'll see in the video that comes out on Saturday with a faster swing speed player (~92MPH) we look for around 190 yards.

Really good to see the follow through on irons. I did it the other way around starting with an irons fitting and equally as a result changed sets and shafts (and lie - in my case going 2 flat). I wanted to just add that I had the same experience that once the irons, driver (still ongoing) and hybrids and 5 wood review were done and when I then took to the course on a regular basis i ended up with some redundancy now as a result dropping one iron in favour of a hybrid, dropping 5 wood also in favour of a longer hybrid. So the gapping issue becomes a key stage with or as part of a fitting. Indeed that is part of my current dilemma with the driver and perhaps also the need to revisit the 5 wood. So that they all (very different makes - something else to add as no longer look at one make or even one set of irons but individual clubs (or groups of clubs when it comes to irons like gap-wedges as one group; 7/8 -pw as another; and hybrids or longer irons as another group as the case may be). Look forward to seeing the wedges fitting. And dont forget the putter too as indeed one does more puts a round than even with any other club - i learned and changed my putter inadvertently when using my hybrid as a putter with much better effect consistently than my previous putter! What a self taught lesson. Great clip. Sam should be down to single figures by now - what a wonderful feeling he must have!

Awesome as usual guys - well done. After 10+ years off of golf with an elbow injury, I bought myself these Apex irons early last year as I re-hit the range and needed some old man clubs versus my old forged cavity back blades with heavy extra stiff 6.5 Rifle shafts - and I too was shocked by the difference - I'm actually longer now than I was a decade ago pre injury. As a better player than Sam, I actually went with their Recoil Graphite shaft to give me dampening for my elbow injury and have been stunned on how arrow straight the Regular Flex Graphite Recoils are - just amazed at their performance. As an FYI, the longest Apex iron I use is their 5 iron as it is exactly the loft of my old blade 4 iron and that is my 190 ish club - hybrids after that. I have told a few local people about your business so hopefully they will be coming by - I still have to book my appointment. Fantastic stuff. Paul.

Being forged, I would have been interested to see what difference bending his current club up to the same lie angle would have resulted in compared to the Apex, then it would have been Easier to see how more forgiving the Apex was. spin on the Apex seems very low for a 6 iron. Is it possible to conduct a fitting with Sam (as the constant viewer is now familiar with him) and compare this recent iron fitting to him using blades, at least with the higher lofted clubs? I have always wondered if using blades as a mid-handicapper can get one to improve their centre contact, as the blades are better at providing feed back than cavity back clubs. I understand that with the longer clubs, blades would likely not be a good decision and that hybrids or woods may be more beneficial. Thanks again for another great video.

It seems that with the game improvement irons you have a trade off between distance and spin rate. This may seem like a silly question but will using a softer, higher spin ball make up for the lack of spin off of the iron?

Very informative. As a complete new golfer myself, who just bought a box set to get me playing and see if I actually would enjoy it and I do. I struggle hitting my irons consistently. Ended up finding some old Stryker's with graphite shafts at a yard sale. They seem more of a players style, just cavity back. Anyway my shots has gotten much more consistent, especially left to right. But after watching this I definitely need a club fitting and new clubs all around, but where to start? Irons, Driver, fairway woods or hybrids? Any suggestions?
@clubchampionmedia
@clubchampionmedia 5 жыл бұрын
Good question, irons are often a good place to start as they will affect your choices of long game clubs and wedges. It does depend on which part of your game you feel needs the most improvement, as that would be ideal to prioritize for the sake of improving performance.

So matching clubs to a so-so swing. Does matching clubs to Sam's swing cause him to plateau? What happens when Sam corrects his swing? Maybe a new fitting for each plateau due to swing changes? When is it enough? I'm a believer in swing first, fitting later. Is it possible club fitting for high cappers is just a marketing ploy for fitters to increase revenue? I don't have the answer, only the questions.

Sam’s clubs are adjustable for lie/loft, so if he develops his technique they can still be adjusted for him appropriately. Occasionally a player will require a refitting if they’ve changed their swing substantially, but it isn’t as common as people think

As a mid-high handicapper, what is the best order to get fitted in? Driver to Wedges or Wedges to Driver?

Hey guys, currently playing the mp-54s. Don't know my true handicap (was 17 before the winter came). Been playing since June 2017-and last recorded handicap was october 2017. So probably down to 10-14 hcp now (still winter here). Playing around even par on the simulator now (but I think it's too kind on my misses). The thing that was holding me back last year was my iron play, so worked a ton on it and got new irons with more feel to them. My stock swing with my 6 iron is about 172-175y carry. Old nike VRS was 185-190 What I like about this set is that it's giving me great gaping down to my wedges (and GREAT feel), playing vokeys 46,50,54 and a callaway PM-grind 60. Do you think the Mp-54's are to hard to hit for a medium-to high handicapper like myself? I'm happy with the distances I generate as stated above, but do you think I should move in to some irons that are more forgiving on mishits? I know I should get fitted, but JUST the plane ticket to closest fitting center is 250$, so not in my budget right now. Thanks again guys for making these, can't wait for the next one :D

MP-54's have good enough forgiveness, if you're happy with their performance in terms of distances, dispersion etc. then it's likely they are a pretty good fit.
