I saw her in the late 90s. Great show. Then I saw her at the NAC in Ottawa in June 2023. She sounds the same!!!!. When she sang this song I had forgotten it.. ..one of the best artists I've ever seen..

One of my absolute favorite artist, from the first time I heard Birmingham in 1996. It's an absolutely tragedy the United States never caught on to her, and that her career had to put on hold for so long.

First album sold 6 million copies, 1 million in Canada and like 5m in the US. She was well on her way. But the music industry completely screwed it up. Had the best pure blues singer since Janis Joplin and they tried to turn her into some sort of pop diva (because $$$$) by shoving overproduced pop pap down her throat. Thankfully she's finally back and still has the voice!

Part of the problem was that it was the late 90s and if you weren’t a teenager pushing sex more than the music, you didn’t have a chance - and given all the abuse that went on, take that for what it’s worth. Amanda was already in her mid 20s by the time the pop craze kicked in and wore big, fluffy coats in her videos, sang mostly bluesy, soulful rock songs instead of pop, which was the antithesis of what made money back then. Then she got screwed by her record company and was basically silenced for years. She might have had an opening to become a star internationally in 1996, but it just didn’t happen. Everyone in music got crushed by the boy bands and other pop acts.

I heard this song briefly around time it launched, probably on a radio station but that line "omg i woke up with a snake tatoo" always stuck with me and I would sometimes quote or sing it. today out of the blue i decide to search and listen to the full song and cant beleive how awesome it is. one of those instant classics from that golden era of 00s. gonna go listen to all her songs on apple music.

Awwwwww My childhood. I remember hearing this song being overplayed everywhere whether it was the radio, mall, walking dow the grocery stores isles, call-on-hold music, etc. I don't have a particular liking for this song but it reminds me of my childhood ...
