@@elizabethteresa9231 gonna be honest, i spent two years as a psych/pre-med major and i finally realized that it was not for me at all and now i'm going to law school hahaha. if there's one piece of advice i can give you, it's to do as much shadowing or talking to medical professionals as you can! when i was just starting out, my perception of being a doctor was much different than the reality (which is very common tbh). if it's something that you really enjoy, it will be hard, but it will be worth it. for me, it just wasn't worth it. hope this doesn't deter you from still trying, good luck in college!!

@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
+Tamara Akpamgbo I would recommend Pre-Calculus, I wish I would've taken it, you definitely need it in college level physics classes and basically for every calculation based class! Stats wasn't hard at all for me to pick up in college! YOUR VIDEOS ARE VERY HELPFULL, I wanted to ask, how hard is it to get the classes with the professors you want? Because I was looking at bruinwalk and there were obviously professors that seemed much better than others(for example they gave As to the 30 percent of the class as opposed to other professors that were stricter and ruined people's GPA by giving As to 10 percent of the class). Im a premed and im hopefully transferring from a cc in a few months and I wanted to see if there is enough space in classes to get the professor that you want.

Hi Amanda! I'm an incoming UCLA freshman and I really appreciate your pre-med videos! I've never taken physics and I'm planning on studying it this summer so I won't suffer as much.. would you recommend studying the AP physics books or other materials (youtube)? Also, would you recommend self-teaching coding (python etc)?
@AmandaMagana8 жыл бұрын
I would do a little of both! KZbin helps so much when it comes to physics in my opinion, see if you can go online and read class descriptions for a physics class you will take soon (like the 6 series) and study on the topics it says it will cover! I find that to be pretty useful I wouldn't worry too much about coding especially with python unless you're planning to take some additional computer science classes, I remember I did do some coding in my math series (the ls 30 series but we used another program that I can't remember the name of now but the TA's were helpful so I would only see looking into coding being useful if you plan to take the ls 30 series for your math requirement (which I highly recommend btw I loved it) :)

I just got accepted into a nursing school for this fall, and I am considering being an RA. However, I am afraid that I am not going to have enough time to be an RA (at my school they require 15 hours a week; 12 hours on call 1 time a month I believe), be a nursing student (I have heard that nursing is rigorous), and have time for myself like if I want to go to the gym or have some down time. Are there pre-reqs for the phys, chem, and bio year long cycle courses you need for med school or can you take them as soon as you get into the university? If you could do it over what classes would u recommend taking together in a quarter and which ones would u avoid taking together because of difficulty? Thanks so much this is really helpful! Also do u know any pre med people majoring in a humanities? Do they have any advice you could share with us?
@corey54549 жыл бұрын
Depending on the imstution, there may be prerequisites for bio, phys, chem, etc. Most specifically its probably a math class. The reason why is because you need to know math(College Algebra and Calc) to take Physics. Most people take biology first semester of freshman year. Chem I'm not sure, again this depends on if there are any pre reqs. Physics may be taken second semester of freshman year or first semester of sophomore year.

Hi, I was just wondering if you could go into more detail about what the "lab" classes are thanks!
@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
Basically you have a three hour class where you do experiments! The experiments are already written so you have to just execute them in lab, and you have to wear the proper attire and everything! it's pretty official! It's kinda hard in my opinion only because lab work is so precise and even the smallest errors can ruin your experiment! You would write up your results in a lab report and analyze the data you collected through things like excel or something as homework :) I posted a vlog in lab before I think it's labeled "Ucla follow me around...lab ect" or something so you can check that out to see what it looks like :)

Would you recommend to go to community college freshman and sophmore year then transfer to a university ? I also wanna go to UCLA
@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
+Lizeeth De Rosas depends for what major! I know for a lot of majors here it's VERY competitive to get in, even harder than if you were to apply and go straight out of high school!
@LiLkdogg928 жыл бұрын
I think whether you go to community college depends on your situation. If your high school stats are good I think you should just apply to UCLA. If you don't get in then just go to community and transfer. I knew a lot of transfer students at UCLA so its definitely doable. I would go to community straight from high school if I had personal things that required me to stay close to home for a bit or if I was struggling financially and couldn't pay the tuition. A lot of the high school kids I talk to don't want to apply to UCLA because its a big name school and they don't think they'll get in. My advice is don't sell yourself short. Not everyone at UCLA scored above a 2000 on their SATs.

You mentioned that you didn't take AP courses in high school except for Biology AP if I understood correctly. I was just wondering if you can share what you think got you into such a competitive college such as UCLA without doing more than 1 AP? this sounds amazing to me. seems impossible to do today.

Can you go into detail as to what you want to do with your major in the future?
@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
+Nathalie Silva Definitely! I can make a video on it, but the short answer for now is I want to get into pediatric medicine, basically I want to be a doctor for children :) I think! I know lots of people say though that you shouldn't say what you want to specialize in until you actually get to medical school :)

Is the physiological science in UCLA THAT hard?
@AmandaMagana8 жыл бұрын
+Sang Rok Wang depends on how hard you work! But for the average bear, I heard it is one of the hardest majors around
@LiLkdogg928 жыл бұрын
Physci is considered hard at UCLA because students in the major are really competitive, which makes it difficult to maintain a high GPA when classes are graded on a curve. You may be doing A work, but because of the curve and only a certain percentage of the class gets an A you might end up with a B in the class.

How hard is it to study for premed (classes) compared to other majors and what career are you perusing?
@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
+Beth Ashagire not to scare anyone off, but very. It's another level of studying lol like there are students who record lectures and listen to the same one like 3 different times (instead of just attending lecture once and taking notes and just going off of that to study), so I think the hardest thing is making sure you're studying as hard, if not harder, than the people in your classes! When you put your mind to it though and actually spread out the studying it's not too bad. I think it's just difficult to study for multiple classes when all the info in them is difficult and often new so you really have to be diligent about studying for each class enough each week or you'll fall behind!

This video would've been so helpful last year when I was choosing my classes for my senior year 😅I took anatomy last year and I'm taking AP bio this year but I didn't take AP Chem or AP physics which I originally had in my schedule

+CarolinaS0598 lol don't worry same thing happened to me! It's okay, catching up is do able a lot of people forget all the material they learned in high school by the time they get to college anyway :P

@AmandaMagana9 жыл бұрын
+Michel mikhael they have amazing education classes here and tons of opportunities to get involved in classrooms! I would say go for it and talk to some counselors here about clubs you can join to start volunteering as a student teacher at local high schools :)

is it better to transfer to UCLA?
@AmandaMagana8 жыл бұрын
+Mrs.angel Sivan hmmm it depends on your personal circumstances! I would say it is a more favorable path to go straight out of high school only because it seems like it takes longer transferring and there is a lot of catch up work when you actually get to UCLA!

@AmandaMagana8 жыл бұрын
any major can have a person be "premed" it just means taking the prerequisite classes for medical school :)

Would taking AP Biology help. At my school they alternate with AP Biology one year and then AP Chemistry the next year. With my school due to limited funding i took chemistry honors but nobody really tought the class. So basically although my transcript says i took the class and passed, we didn't learn anything

+21 Styles what do you mean by "how to get in" :)?
@evestyles22539 жыл бұрын
what it takes to get accepted into pre-med :)
@corey54549 жыл бұрын
+21 Styles pre med is your choice. some schools have premed as a major which means you will not get a bachelors degree. So I wouldnt do because what happens IF someone doesnt get accepted and they dont have anything else to fall back on because they dont have a bachelors degree. Major in anything but premed, premed is just a committee for the most part and they help you with connecting to medical proffesionals, advising , mock interviews, job oppurtunities etc.
@evestyles22539 жыл бұрын
+Gizelle Blanc so i can prettie much major in biology and later join pre-med?
@corey54549 жыл бұрын
21 Styles you can join premed anytime you want. You can even major in whatever you want(english, business, etc.) and still be a premed student.
