I had a real A**H0LE of a math teacher in high school who kept accusing me of being high in class. The reality was A) I was wearing contacts that irritated my eyes and B) his teaching style was incredibly uninspiring and he treated people like dummies if they didn't understand his lessons right away. I didn't touch any drugs until after I graduated high school, but he just continued to get more and more vindictive. On a positive note, I'm a teacher now and I use this guy as an example of how not to treat my students.

Man that’s a total 180 from a few of the teachers I had in high school. I still remember my chemistry teacher had a few plants growing in the closet of the classroom. It was hilarious because me and my best friend had to sneak them out and into the woods behind the school when the county police came to do a drug sweep/lockdown. Similar stuff happened around there a lot, it was out in the countryside and a lot of that stuff was being grown everywhere at the time. Before meth and meth labs started ravaging the rural areas.

Same. My grandma smoked like a chimney and refused to roll down the windows in the car. The dad called the school bullies, I mean "staff", on their game by bringing a drug test kit that she then passed. The girl had an ongoing medical issue that they ER doctor didn't believe she had it. Well, they later found the smoking gun. The problem is the administrators ego wouldn’t allow him or herself to be proven wrong regardless of how many clean tests. Once it was discovered they were wrong they immediately went into ego defending mode and tried standing on solid ground which didn’t exist. Ultimately what this administrator has clearly shown is that he or she is not capable of doing the job and should be fired, bottom line. I agree with the ones below that say this should result in a lawsuit only settling with the firing of this incompetent individual along with a public apology to the student and her parents. And I guess it should also translate to remedial training for the entire school district staff on how to not let something so stupid happen again in the future. But in the world we live in that probably makes too much sense.

Former teacher here. If my school suspected a student was high, they called the parents and then took the student to the er to get a test. All done that day. Problem averted. Also, the number of students who come to school high is staggering. The first thing a parent does if we miss something like that and something happens to their child is blame the school. Parents always blame the school. In this case, though, they should have a better protocol in place for doing an immediate drug test so innocent students are not punished, and students who are high are given immediate medical attention for their safety.
@shannon3n83 ай бұрын
@sememmer1 But to immediately pull a child student out of the class because a teacher thinks/feels the child student may possibly be high, drunk, intoxicated or impaired and made to take a drug test to prove their innocence? You can see how that is wrong on so many levels, right? What if you have a vindictive teacher with an axe to grind on a student whose parent/guardian ripped them in a P/T meeting or reported what was said off-color in class to the principal - so the teacher waits to get even? What if the student's sibling(s) had trouble with the teacher in years past and the teacher doesn't want the hassle they preconcieve this studeht will present? It would be a lesson in humility, apology, and US Civics all rolled into one. An excellent chance to show how actions have consequences from both sides of the situation, what the Bill of Rights in our US Constitution guarantee us, and on and on.
@sememmer13 ай бұрын
@shannon3n8 Good teachers would never do that. Most teachers are good and want what's best for their students. Also, drug tests aren't just immediately given for someone to "prove their innocence." There is an entire protocol that is followed first. I think you missed what I was saying.

When I was in high school, I was under weight (85 lbs) with low blood pressure from heart defects from birth. Because of this, I was often woozy and foggy brained. I could've totally been labeled as drunk. It's weird how often schools are trying to pin medical issues as reason for kicking out kids, rather than trying to work with them to help the situation.

This is what comes of "zero tolerance" policies. They do not take into consideration ANY circumstance where something might be happening. The line "Student *under the influence* need not be legally intoxicated to trigger disciplinary action" means "If we think you might be, you will be judged as being "under the influence" and that's all that we need to take into consideration. We're professionals at telling what's intoxicated and the doctors and drug tests don't. So just bow down to our superiority and forget any kind of justice on this one. You lose, we win." I grew up in the Amarillo Schools. It didn't used to be this way. And I think now, if I had kids of school age (all mine, including a lot of the grandkids are in high school or out of school now) I would be homeschooling them. Putting up with the schools like that is really ridiculous now days.

So...having a disability means you need to go to an alternative school. That's an ADA violation.

If red eyes are the only indication that you are high from marijuana, I've apparently been smoking it for 24 years without knowing it. Very ridiculous!
