More impressive than even the eating is how sweet this woman is to everyone. What a breath of fresh air in this messed up world to see a person with a kind heart. I gotta say, I would've probably got annoyed after the 3rd person interrupted me but I'm starting to see that I shouldn't be that way and need to work on it.

I took and won the challenge in February 1990. The meal appears to be the same as it was back then, except the shrimp dish is not as large now; back then it was an enormous, full shrimp cocktail. Like you, I found the steak to be well cooked and absolutely delicious. I did not receive all of the swag that you did after winning, so I am jealous (they gave me the certificate and let me sign their register of champions, and that was it). It took me 13 minutes longer to finish than it did you, and watching your video makes me now realize that I could (and should) have asked for an extra plate to give me more cutting room. As with you, the waitress who attended me was super nice, accommodating and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful video, and for a delightful trip down memory lane!
@LynnCindy
@LynnCindy 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I did it back in 1995, on April 8th, and I only got the certificate and to sign the register. I was miserable for three days afterward, and despite the fact that we have since moved to Amarillo, and I'm much larger now, I'm not sure I would try it again. We have eaten there numerous times since moving here a few months back, and haven't seen anyone complete it while we were there. It might kill me now. LOL!

@@scotthill1600 LOL! Yeah... I did it at the time, because I grew up knowing about it as a kid and always thought, "I would like to try that one day, as much as I love steak.." ...and though it was one of the best tasting steaks I've ever eaten, and cooked perfectly, it was hard to truly enjoy with the clock ticking and determined to win the challenge. HA! We mostly go there for the atmosphere these days, and usually take any out of town friends/family there, to get the "Amarillo Experience". Take care.

That was amazing and fun to watch - way to go! I did the challenge 10 years ago because I had the same ambition. I got to sit up on stage and they even had the camera above the stage that you can stream watch the video live. When they brought out my steak, they gave me the option to bite into it to make sure it was cooked the way I liked it. Mine ended up being a slight bit over cooked - so they took it back and cooked me another 72* ounce steak (20 minutes later). I had all of my friends cheering me on and the wife and kids at home watching on the live stream. Once they brought me the steak back - OMG, this thing literally was the size of my arm, hanging over the plate. So once I got into cutting through the steak, I was tearing through it...10 min...20 min....30 min... I was starting to seeing some light and the bottom of the plate! Then all of a sudden I hit this wall at 40 minutes...face starting turning white...the excitement was getting to me and yes, I even started to sweat...lol. My wife at home, had to run to the bathroom and came back - asked one of my kids: How's Daddy doing? And my kid with no expression says...I think Daddy threw up in the boot....Yes, I didn't quite have the same outcome as you - but it was definitely one of those check box items that I can say I tried...but failed miserably.

In 1969 I spent my air force boot camp at Amarillo AFB. I remember the Big Texan very well. It was located at a different place but it had the same thing 72 oz in an hour. A couple of my buddies said let's do it. I was the one they picked. I knew I couldn't eat it all but ate what I could and the guys who split the cost with me enjoyed steak sandwiches for a week. We did eat there at times because the food was great. Amarillo was cold in January, I also remember that. I was a kid from California and arrived in Amarillo on Jan 4th. Never have I seen the wind blow so cold. I was in shirt sleeves. What memories you brought back for me. Thanks.

@@jldude84 The gospel by which we're saved. We're under Paul's ministry today. Therefore we're not under the law of the old testament. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. And that takes us back to John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. So it's only by GRACE that we are saved not by works. Jesus did all the work and gave us GRACE (unmerited favor) as long as we have FAITH (believe) in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for SALVATION (trust in his blood). That's the gospel. Jesus said, Ye must be born again to enter into the kingdom.(accept Jesus as your SAVIOR)

Can I also say that I love your etiquette during this whole challenge. The fact that you were interacting with everyone coming up to you, the fact that you were more focused on speaking to them and the challenge than you were on talking to your camera and narrating everything you did, lovely. I think you’re the first KZbinr I’ve ever watched where I didn’t have to skip thru 10 minutes of talking in the beginning and I actually watched the whole video without being annoyed. @Yesh uwah Honestly that 1 potato was fine with me, I've seen other challenges where its like the main meat or food and then added on is like 5 pounds of fries and then another 5 slices of bread and other junk to just bloat the plate to hit some magical weight number to make the challenge look awesome. This one on the other hand is a straight massive steak with 4 normal size sides.
