WHEN do you grip the club? Do you grip it then set your stance and alignment? Do you introduce shaft lean then grip it? Does it matter ? Editing 99 percent of the time shows just the moment before the swing. Please consider showing us exactly how you set up to maybe a 9 iron from A to Z. Thanks.

I need help taking divots and fixing my low point. I probably drop my back shoulder and always pick the ball. maybe keep shoulders square and get weight on left side? anyways a new set of p770s would also probably help so if james doesn't claim them, I gladly will😅.... Thanks Grant... your games been incredible, hoping to see you play pga event now that George is.

Great video. I’d love a wrist/hand rotation instruction video! To see the proper way to rotate your hands through the swing. Ties in with the grip so much and I believe it’s one of the most important parts in your swing.

Yes agreed. I dont understand the concept of flipping my lead hand/wrist over. I have the tendancy for my trail hand to be on top instead of bottom at the follow thru

sounds like you are rotating your hands through and most likely play a draw if your trail hand is on top. To hit a cut or to stop turning your wrist over... think about skipping a rock with your right hand @@binuuu6751

No one is a bigger fan of Grant than my girlfriend and I. We put every one of his videos up on the big screen and can’t wait to see that great smile and legendary smooth swing. I clicked on this video because the picture of the two grips he starts off with was my before grip. I have struggled for the last few years trying everything including going to a very technical 5 week school. This video literally fixed everything for me. Driver, chipping and unbelievable iron shots. Omg, almost got a hole in 1 with an 8 iron from 147yds. Thanks Grant and keep these tips coming!

I like that "open the fingers" alignment check. For me personally, I like the classic approach of standing behind the ball with hand by my thigh, the club butt nestles into my fingers with the back of my hand vertical, and then everything falls into place from there. Love your content. Cheers!

Just got back from the range and this really helped me. A lot of videos (and sorry if this is confusing) talk about the butt through the fingers and then resting on the inside palm pad. Maybe I was just misunderstanding but resting it on the outside pad really worked wonders. Best I’ve hit the ball in a long time (took a few years off due to work obligations). Thanks Grant!

Fantastic video. Fixing my grip was the thing that helped me the most, specifically the point you mentioned about the grip dictating WHERE the club ends up at the top. Little adjustments to my grip with either hand can drastically change where the club wants to go at the top of my backswing

This video helped me so much. I used to have a very weak grip, and could hit my irons pretty well with it, but couldn’t hit driver without slicing it about 50 yards right. Start of the summer, I watched this video and just decided I need to change something. So I stuck with it, and it took 4/5 bad rounds for the neutral grip to feel normal. I went out yesterday and shot a 4 over round (used to be off 11) - absolutely over the moon. Finally achieved a life goal of my handicap down to single figures! Thank you so much Grant!

Hello Grant, I've been enjoying your golf videos for a while now and I just now found your teaching channel. Im a 67yo guy who has golf horribly for over half my life. I was able to get my oldest son involved when he was in grade school and he went on to become the captain and mvp for his high school team. Ive had some health issues over the last several years but my love for the game hasnt faded. Thank you for this easy to understand lesson of the grip. I never knew the club was supposed to be in my fingers. I look forward to many more lessons. I'm trying hard to get back in shape to get back out on the links. My biggest problem besides the grip, is my inability to take a divot after I hit the ball. I've never been able to do that. so, if you could do a lesson on that I would appreciate it. I dont know if you have the time to read all the comments that we leave you, but I'm hoping you see mine. Thank you again for the great content on all your channels. Now I just have to get my kmart special clubs out of mothballs!

Just got back from the range fixing my grip. I had shoulder surgery 2 months after getting fitted for my first irons, and now 11 months later have had a deadly slice... never have I lost more balls and less fun golfing. My shoulder started hurting after 18 holes from hitting it too fat constantly. This weekend I burned through the palm of a new glove, so I knew something was wrong. After watching this and fixing my palm grip, my shots look so much better, and aiming feels much easier. I've been told by many people better than me that I have a good looking swing, but they've never told me about my grip. I took a sharpie out and wrote 'check your grip' on my glove to remind me every time that this is the most important fix. Time to start breaking 80!

Wait, so is it down in the fingers of the left hand, across the base of the fingers (as you showed at 5:40) - or is it angled so the grip sits on the palm pad of the left pinky, like you showed in the beginning? I've seen across the base of the fingers taught on other good channels

I just picked the game up after a 10+ year break and got down to 15hcp since late June. My biggest issue has been inconsistency off the tee. I either hit it dead straight or crazy slice, and end up losing a ton of balls due to that. Since this video I've spent a bit of time working with this Hogan style of grip. MAN! It has changed my game exponentially. Played today and missed 2 fairways but only because I overshot them. Shot my first eagle after a 280yd 3 wood shot. AND I DIDN'T LOSE A SINGLE BALL! I'm sorry can someone clarify 2:50 for me. That camera angle change xD So the butt of the club should rest on that fat part of the pinky/bottom knuckle closest to the palm. But how about the left/lead index finger? Should the club rest on the fat knuckle part? Or does it go up in an angle where it touches the "V" part the hand to the upper knuckle. Also when grant says slight angle does he mean he holds the club in the 6 o'clock position or 7/8 o'clock of the grip, if that makes any sense. Thank You!

Grant you can tell you have a patience for teaching, can’t wait to see more videos! Also, you caught something for me at 6:43. I would always try and have a “strong grip” but I think it was too much which caused my left shoulder to close. It sucked because I would try and square everything up with that setup and it was so frustrating because it’s basically impossible to do so (for me at least). Can’t wait to get out to the range and try these things out. Also, glad these are short and simple lessons that focus on 1-2 things. That’s really helpful because now I can go to the range and focus on two things and check myself with your tips. On other tutorials I feel like they teach a lot of tricks but don’t give you a way to self-check for any of them. Makes it so you end up at the range trying to incorporate 5 things with a limited understanding of each of them. Anyways overall thanks for the tips!

@gdo3510

Grip tension should be like a 3 out of 10. Grip your club as you would normally and then hold your hands out straight in front of you with the club shaft pointed directly up. Relax the muscles in your forearms so the only tension you feel is now in your fingers/grip. Hinge the club shaft now straight down so that it’s pointed directly away from your chest. Stop the shaft when it’s now parallel to the ground and perpendicular to your chest. I’m order to hold the club parallel to the ground you’ll feel an increase in your grip pressure. Okay, now tilt your club back up to you so it’s at 45 degrees (right in the middle of pointing straight up and parallel) you’ll feel your grip required less tension to hold it in this position. This is the grip pressure you’ll want to use for your swing. Remembering to keep your arms straight and making sure to only use your grip to hold this position. You want relaxed muscles in forearms the entire time.

I would suggest reshooting the LH grip portion. The camera positions were a bit obscured at times, and it would have been really helpful to see things from a camera angle facing the left palm, and to see the club on the hand before it closes. Even going so far as to show this in slow motion would not be over-the-top.

Grant! My issue is I also grip the palm. Here is why though… Every time I grip the club in my left hand inside the fingers like you explains to. After I hit the ball on the fallow through part of the swing, my grip slides in my left hand right into my palm. This leads me to believe that although the “right grip”, the grip does not feel strong or stable to me. Any tips to prevent this from happening? So I need to rotate more after ball contact? when I get wristy with it/rotate forward it doesn’t happen. But when I have a firm strait for arm my grip slips every time. I don’t understand.

One thing I wish I could always see is gripping the club from the golfers pov (like from a camera on the front of a hat). But awesome stuff!
