When you hang a painting where there is wall paper, cut a small V and flip it up then nail the wall and not the paper. When you want to change it , then you just remove the nail and flip the wallpaper down and you would never know there is a nail hole.

Without insulation the cold drywall next to dormer meets the heat from inside and humidity forms causing the drywall to mold. All the more reason to use a moisture barrier with insulation before drywall!

I agree with you the pink would just look cheap. The greens are a great choice I think. 👍
@teresacarle2948 ай бұрын
🤔That pink was rather sickly sweet. They were wise to change directions. The nursery school color on the door would do a decided disservice to the charming floral wallpaper😂. My friend painted her living room walls a similar sweet green hue. I HATED it. It felt like sitting in a bowl of mint ice cream. Not comfortable or pleasant🤢. 🤓For years, that same friend had a two tone master bedroom. A bold purply-pink violet on bottom & a light lilac on top w/a pansy papered chair rail that made sense of them. The combo was quite charming. It didn't feel infantalized. It struck me as unbelievably fresh, feminine, & beautiful together. As a person who is comfortable in neutrals, I once thought all white paints were created equal. Hah! I made the mistake of painting my walls a white that had an unfortunate blue undertone. It was stark prison chic. Not restful😵. Nor did it play well w/other colors. 😉Thought it was color that my senses objected to, but I was perfectly content facing an intense Mickey Mouse red & also a MM blue painted wall at two different divisions of TWDC for over a decade👍. 🤫From these experiences, I finally figured out it was the undertone that made all the difference. Found walls w/a neutral to warm undertone to be far more pleasing. 🧐Oddly enough, I prefer clothing that has a neutral to cool undertone. Pure white. No garments in cream, camel, or gold near my countenance. Anything w/a warm undertone instantly depletes my energy😔. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

at about 7:12 when Phillip is holding the wallpaper up, i actually think it looks really nice against the doors behind him (and the color of the stone on the fireplace). the color of the doors really matches the wallpaper quite well and makes the flowers pop! i also cant lie, the gold trimming of the woodwork would really doll up the whole countryside jewel box look, but if your going more country i feel the gold would be a bit on the fancy side. anyway i love the direction that this room is going in and cant wait to see it done!

Stephany, why not have Philip use the tiny green leaf motif in the wallpaper as a guide to mimic and paint onto the 'unsightly' bedside table? Then add small coral roses (minus the stems) surrounding the leaf motif. Almost like "Crazy-Quilt Stitching" that you would see on a gorgeous Crazy Quilt. 🤗 He could even enlarge the size a bit. It will match the decor and liven up that plain table.😊
@SB_McCollum8 ай бұрын
Go lightest green-y neutral. Outlining the doors and woodwork makes the room appear smaller, the lightest color is definitive but not a Color. Your eyes might tire of all those patterns in six years and you'll want to refresh the room again, the lighter shade leaves more room for more ideas later on. (I do understand the desire for higher contrast, I'm tossed between trad "white" trim in my DR and going full Abigail Ahern "trim & all" Gentleman's Gray . It's a small house, what to do, what to do....)

@snoopybluejeans8 ай бұрын
Something a designer once mention, Sarah Richardson, was when doing a large floral to balance it, you need some geometric in the room, and patterns work in uneven number, 3,5, ect. So for examples, a large floral, a small floral, then a a stripe, gingham, plaid ect. Or another example, Large geometric, small geometric or small floral, and then a large or small floral. She's decorated some awesome places and she follows her guidelines. Her rooms always look stunning. She doesn't follow trends as much as she follows principles in design.

I commented back ages ago that the roof space should be insulated when I saw there was none in the attics. 40% of your heat gets lost through the roof if there's nothing to keep it in. One contributing factor as to why it's so cold. A thorough approach to incorporating insulation of roofs and walls in the top floors and adding double glazing to windows would help the place retain more heat. The folks at Lalacelle have been replacing their old windows with ones incorporating DG yet they look authentic. Another thing Amaury could do at some point. And you should replace those dodgy electrics. Yes, a lot of work, but it's necessary maintenance you should be doing in phases over time. A bit more than a lick of paint and a layer of wallpaper 😄 (Plus in France I understand you can claim back some of the cost of insulation through the tax system)
@XantheWilliams8 ай бұрын
I believe the electrics were all updated when they did the initial renovation after buying, the switches are replica vintage ones.

Hmmm maybe you can try what Anna from How to Renovate a Chateau does with paint samples before finally painting the said wall/door/etc. is you can paint the sample onto sheets of think paper, tape it on the doors/walls you want to paint, look at the colors throughout the day and night, and see what you think and feel about the said color. Your precious time is getting wasted with painting whole doors or walls and only realizing later that it didn't quite have the look or feel you were expecting. I hope it all works out soon.

I recommend using the second lightest green. The lightest one will come off as yellow, I think, which isn't the direction you want to go in. Also use rigid insulation between the roof joists and before you install the plaster board, one thin sheet across the rafters - it will pay off in the long run, you won't get faint lines marking where the rafter are that way.

I think Amaury is absolutely right, there’s no point doing the work in the attic bedrooms and not doing a proper job, you absolutely need insulation in the alcoves, the difference it will make will be enormous, you will definitely fell and see the benefit of doing it.
