Amazfit Verge vs Amazfit Stratos: ULTIMATE COMPARISON

I'm still using the amazfit bip with all sensor always on and charge once a month

The subjected item is “Amazfit Stratos” which the issue had encountered approximately after 6 months of normal use. The issue was what I least expected since the product was especially known as a highly durable product. The back glass of the watch (under the Heart rate sensor) had dismounted from the watch without any impact. This has happened while I was wearing the watch & without my knowledge. Sametime the light rays (or light source) that are used to monitor HR, had wounded my wrist leaving a doubt that, "are these products safe to wear". The product seller & #Amazfit support team refused to claim the warranty saying that it is a physical damage, which is not. ultimately it leaves me a broken watch without heart rate sensing & with a broken airtight seal (which the specification says it can withstand 5 ATM underwater). Even the #Amazfit support team will not take responsibility for their faulty products. I presume that you should buy Amazfit products at your own risk.

I have the Verge and im very pleased. It does everything. calls , messages. all apps notifications. Its very good. The last update gave it more watch faces. It has much potential to be one of the best budget watches.

Good review other than the screen comparisons. Yes in dull light with the backlight on the Stratos (or any transflective display) is going to look washed out compared to an OLED display. But in sunlight or even bright indoor lighting without the backlight turned on the Stratos display will be very colourful and the OLED will be the one looking dim and washed out - you didn’t do that comparison. For me personally, having had an always on display with the Pebble, I REALLY cannot be bothered with a screen I’ve got to turn on to read - to me it feels like going back 50 years to the original LED watches - and look how long they were “cool” for!

Keith England Oled displays are garbage for me, stratos is way better with transflective screen. I really don’t understand; If the screen is always off unless making strange arm movements to activate it, then what’s the point of having the brightest and the best looking watchfaces with cool animations ? Yeah man, I really want to go for Stratos for the design and the display, but since I'd use it mainly to track my running performance (I'm a cheap ass dude in a third world country who can't afford Garmin) I really gravitate towards the Verge for the upgraded HR monitor, but again it lacks Firstbeat performance monitor like in the Stratos. Would be really nice if Amazfit could come up with an "upgraded" Stratos with a similar design quality and upgraded hardware on the monitoring side with Firstbeat statistic, that would be the perfect watch for me. (But I guess the price would be considerably higher.)

I cannot get into the design of the Verge, at all. If they put this stuff into the body of the Pace or a smaller Startos without the marking around the bezel I would've already ordered it. Or if they did something like the Ticwatch c2 which is quite possible the most attractive watch on the market at this moment for me. Add water proofing and swim track and it would be damn near perfect.

I was a Pebble owner since the original Kickstarter edition, absolutely loved it until just last fall when I finally decided to upgrade as fewer of my apps were working with the Pebble. When I started my research, I wanted a simple watch with some of the functionality I had come to love with the Pebble (long battery life, button controls, notifications), and some of the other features most watches had I wouldn't have said were necessities (GPS, heart rate, etc), but given that most had those as basic, I decided the things I didn't need included being able to make calls from my wrist... so my first choice was the Bip. What sold me the most was the battery life, but when I looked at more and more videos (some of yours included), I really liked the look and function of the Stratos. What locked me into it was the 20% off I managed to get directly from the Amazfit website. :) After wearing the Stratos for 3 months now, there are a few things I miss from my Pebble (eg. the backlight doesn't come on when I receive a notification, the notifications disappear too quickly, the music controls don't stay active when I switch to them, can't simply control the music using the buttons themselves - you need to use the touchscreen), but overall I love the customizable watch faces, the number of updates Amazfit has provided, and the display still looks great any time, no need to be back-lit or "raise wrist." My battery life is as long as 8 days, 5-6 days if I use some light GPS tracking, and that's with the backlight on auto and vibration on max. I would totally recommend the Stratos, and I don't feel that I should have waited for the Verge as I don't really see it as an upgraded model, and other smartwatches, while they may have more features, are just too garish or expensive in comparison to the Stratos.

I guess you have made some mistake in comparing the display technologies. OLED drains less battery than LCD. It might have a better max nits value than LCD but not less for sure.

I have owned an Amazfit Bip for several months now and that is a great (and cheap) little watch but I find it a little bit lacking. Therefore I have finally decided to upgrade and had to choose between these watches and it is the display that has put me off the VERGE strangely! Having owned the original Pebble (a Kickstarter that wasn't a scam, although not without it's problems) and a Huawei watch, the always on display and readability outdoors of the Bip's transflective display is great for me. If you are an outdoors type person who likes to run or cycle or any sort of outdoorsy activity this is great. My Huawei watch I find more useful when I want a better looking watch and it's not a bright sunny day as there is no ambient light sensor for it's OLED display.Therefore I have ordered myself a Stratos for £115 and hopefully it will make me very happy :)

Why dont you show the Display of the stratos in sunlight? Thats where the verge looks dimm in comparison. Also there is no thing as an trans reflective e-ink display, its either trans reflective or e-ink two complete different types of Display.

Thank you Dan for this comparison. I have problem to decide what's best for me. Currently I have a Bip and very unlucky with that inaccurate heart rate sensor. Especially on sport activity this becomes more a treasure than accurate heart monitoring. Bip is nice for wearing on work or on a daily basis, but not for sport activities. The Stratos looks nice, very sportive, I like that always on screen and because I'm a mountain biker I would benefit from the altitude measuring. But many people complains about the heart rate sensor of the Stratos, maybe similar as with the Bip?

Thanks dan, awesome review. I have stratos. But there is a problem with stratos. The charge point is not good and ofter it doesnt respond. I tried changing the charger itself, but then i realised problem is not with charger, but with the watch charge point panel. Do u have any idea of it? I mean did u face any such issues ever?

01:30 You indicate the Verge has an IP68 rating and cannot be submerged. One of those two claims may be correct but both cannot be correct as IP68 (the "8" is the water rating number) is submersible for at least 30 minutes (up to 4 hours) in at least 1.5 (up to 2) meters of water.

Correct, it has IP68, so altough you can not swim with it, it will not stop working if someone throws you at the pool, or if you catch a rain or accidentally get some water on it while washing your hands.

Dan, I wakeboard, so usually I fall after a trick and have to crawl swim to the edge of the lake (probably take something like 3 minutes or even less). Is it okay if i use the verge for it? When you say it's not waterproof, you mean by diving underwater or just this kind of swim i meantioned is not recommended?

I bought an Amazfit Stratos. It is a very bad product. After only 7 months, the heart rate sensor glass has fallen. It is a manufacturing defect that is well known and that explains why many people have accuracy problems with this heart rate sensor: It is not always visible, but the glass is not well glued and moisture introduce into the sensor. Even if the led continues to flash, this gives completely fictitious frequency data. Beware, Huami / Amazfit sells its defective products via Aliexpress because their warranty does not include products sold in China, even on their "official store".

Hey! 4 days for stratos is very inaccurate. I have been using it for almost 6 months now and I get 6-7 days on my stratos pretty easily (if i am not using gps). If i go for a run (10-20kms) i get 4-5 days out of it.

Not true. Energy consumption depends on what the screen is showing. OLED has to emit light to show content on the screen. Using a transreflective LCD only needs ambient light without LED-Backlight to see the content of the screen.
