I'm in the same place you are with black metal, Tommy, I just started on it. Actually, listening to Blackbraid earlier this year got me into it more. Since then I've been finding more bands with black metal elements that I'm liking a lot. I've been checking out a lot of the bands that various review channels have been covering, as well as letting the algorithms give me stuff. I've been meaning to dive into some of the older and more established black metal bands, I'll probably appreciate them more now.

Entry point to black metal. That would be Venom, even though its not technically bm. Then I went through a grindcore phase. Then someone showed me Mayhem and I got hooked. I got into At the Gates around the same time. Years later I was reintroduced to bm by discovering Satyricon and their song Mother North. Great stuff.

Amazing band, looking forward to Blackbraid 3. My entry point to black metal was when I heard Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse for the first time in 1996, that was it I was hooked!!

Dimmu Borgir got me into black metal. Immortal's new album is killer. Blackbraid is here to carry on black metal to new generations.

Thank you for reviewing this! My entry point to black metal was Dimmu Borgir. My favorite black metal artist is Sakis Tolis. Although he is "officially" categorized as "Gothic metal" on the Encyclopaedia Metallum, he retains the sound of the black metal band he is a part of, Rotting Christ.

Surprised myself by liking this one, vocals and all. Might be because I'm a bit chuffed that they're from NY, the Adirondacks. I so want to see more good, modern metal originating in the US.

Cradle of Filth was my first black metal band and is still one of my favorites today. They were also the first metal show I ever saw back in '01 or '02 when they were on Ozzfest. They played a smaller gig on one of the off days with Sworn Enemy, Killswitch Engage, and Shadows Fall opening for them

my black metal gateway drug was probably Alcest/Amesoeurs (plus many other artists with blackened influences), but it took many years before Enslaved and later Panopticon suddently clicked in my mind and allowed me to appreciate this genre.

Awesome band! The lyrics in this song are freakin' great too! "To ride out on rolling thunder Bathed in ancient blackened majesty Sacred spell of retribution Cast in shadow, torn from the forlorn fabrics of time" My first Black Metal experience was Darkthrone: Transylvanian Hunger, and very soon after my friend turned me on to Cradle of Filth. Stay Metal! 🤘🤘

Not seeing a lot of comments on the controversy from Norway last year. Which is good. This is a really a good dude who made a mistake on his first international tour and didn’t understand the local culture. I’ve met him twice and he’s a really nice guy.

I was never into black metal. More of a thrash guy. But now i love the blackened influence iin thrash, death and deathcore. I am still finding my feet in the genre. I do like the blackbraid album. If i had to say the first black metal album I really loved, it would be Immortal At the heart of Winter. Also, i have listened to some Atmospheric black metal.. which i enjoyed.

My gateway to BM was, as i've mentioned before, Månegarm with their perfect blend of black and folk metal and also Ulver and Satyricon. I remember buying Ulver's "Bergtatt" at a record fair, went home and listened to it 3 times the same evening, was completely fascinated with it. BM is still a very hit or miss-genre for me but when it's good, it's REALLY good.

This is awesome!! I should start to listen more this band. I don't really know where to put my finger when it comes to introduction of black metal. I had Venom - Black metal album as C-cassette when I was 9-10 years old. Much, much later I saw a document of native american metal scene where was Blackbraid. Then I started to listen Watain, Elderwind, Drudkh, MGLA etc... And as as controversy it is to some, I still count Behemoth as Black Metal and it is the band that I have actually seen live

I can't remember who was the first Black metal band that I actually liked. It's still a hit or miss genre for me. I've liked what I've heard from these guys, and some other bands from your reactions, but also there's some I haven't enjoyed as much. Saying that, I'm always interested in hearing more though, it's boring sticking to the same genres.
