I've not had a model railway since I was a child but always liked them. I appreciate the detail that goes into these amazing layouts

Thanks! They are fun for any age!

I have had one of these on my layout for the past few years. I found that it can handle the OO containers from the C rail Intermodal range with ease, but sometimes slips when left with a 40ft box in its jaws . I modified it on one side , by widening the legs so that a 40ft OO scale container could pass through. It has been on my dockside for a while and to celebrate the arrival of a new container ship ,I've added floodlight lights to each end of the main beams and to the control cab. Well pleased with it and it does represent great value

Here in North America the company known as COX had this very container crane on the market back in the 70's and 80's. I managed to pick one up recently so this video is quite timely Jenny.

You got a bargain there Jenny, they're £40 most places! Looks a lot like the Freightliner one in use at Garston Container Terminal in Liverpool.
@peterkazmierczak72734 ай бұрын
£20 - must be the bargain of the year. I wouldn't weather it too much as Freightliner keep their cranes in very good condition. As it may be imagined, this piece of equipment is the vital element in a container terminal and they are kept/maintained in tip top condition. Might be worth getting two, as container depots invariably have a pair of cranes in their facilities.

Hello jenny What a great item that is and it arrives half assembled too. I think it could easily be detailed up further and the way you've painted it really makes it look the part, like you say a good little project to do. Thanks

I totally agree!

Really neat - good VFM. Adding some weights under the grap would reduce the wobble and adding a motor rack and pinion even just on the traverser would be possible. 2x those painted in yellow with some Tamiya Black Panel Line and rust weathering would look great. Love the free running wheels and the diesel engine units on each stanchion

My Dad was a crane driver in a factory. The cranes were kept up due to safety regulations. The cranes themselves were painted in dark red or lighter yellow they had a large crane in the yard that was painted in dark green. Most stains were dirt or oil the hooks were painted yellow for visibility . If I brought this crane I would do it a dark green with a bit of staining the wheels would run on track in real life so I would make a mock track for it.

Your review inspired me to get one from TMC - duly bought the shipping cost and duties to Canada balanced out the reduction (somewhat-ish) And i must say it certainly looks the part standing on a Nuclear Power Station project. I am thinking of getting some Tomix N scale tram track for it to run on.. It does have metal wheels. Many Thanks.

Been looking at this for a long while. Duly inspired - order en route. Thanks for the inspiration. Stay on track and keep up the steam.

The guy who showed this crane had a modern freight terminal in which rail and road were used. The crane was, just like all of his trains, DCC controlled.

It should be possible to motorise this one. Just needs some ingenuity with small motors.
@michaelbenton41173 ай бұрын
Jenny, what a find, I bet someone would buy one and think a way to motorise it. Not me, not clever enough.

Great video again. I have the same crane brand new in the box. Keep meaning to add some motors to it.

The real cranes seem to have turned up on BR in the 1960s though versions were in use back to the 20s/30s in industrial locations.

Hi Jenny and cupboard monkey Zoe, that really is a bargain for a working model. Too modern for me though. I'm a pre-BR blue guy. Thanks for the video though. Cheers!

Great value crane. Been trying, struggling to do my own 3D printed one in N gauge Shame it is not available in N gauge

I suspect it would become too weak to function if scaled down.

If I remember right the jaws are only for HO containers do no fit 00 containers I had one 30 years ago
@GameHammerCG4 ай бұрын
It seemed to fit the OO container she tried it on, so it will have some use outside of HO.

They must have changed the grab as the one I had only fit the HO container that came with it
