nothing to criticize about Tadej's riding today. He rode defensively to protect his lead. Once at the finish it only makes sense to try for the stage. It'd be insulting and demeaning not to. In some other situations it does make sense as a trade when you are following another guy who does most/all of the work of leading. But this was not one of those situations

Because Jonas is just far enough from pre crash form, to not push him to the limit and beyond, the way Jonas did last year. While Remco, Almeida and the rest, still have a bit to go, before being in a position to crash those two's high mountain parties. And Carapaz seems more fixated on individual stages now.

That applies as well for these summaries and the commentary! Hope everybody is such alright with right now 66k views and 1320 likes to not change anything at that for the next edition of TdF, Giro or whatever...

Carapaz wasted energy in a fruitless attack near the end. He should have sat up to wait for Pog and JV to catch up, sit on their wheels and bide his time for the final sprint. He may have taken the stage. No guarantee on that, as Pog has a mighty kick, but it likely would have been a tighter ending to the stage.

Many fans of Jonas said Tadej not showing sportsmanship or mercy on Jonas. Blah blah blah…. This is pro cycling. Showing mercy by just giving the stage win to Jonas is much cruel to Jonas. Tadej deserves not share any wins with VISMA. I’m not talking about Jonas. Tadej did his best for the team who support him for all the races. If he just gave the stage win to Jonas, then how will his UAE teammates feel about his behavior?

How are the sprinters looking, time wise, in the mountain stages? I seem to recall there have been races where they have suffered more trying to stay under cutoff. That would seem a better indicator of some new, undetectable, climbers dope, than individual differences between climbers. Pog and Cav being the only ones in on in on the new stuff, seems really weird.... Pog's crazy accelerations after all that climbing, could just as well be because Jonas is not 100% back to pre injury form. Another consistent 20 watts out of Jonas up those mountains, and Pog may not have much kick left at the end, either. The two of them were largely in a league of their own the past two years as well. And there are all kinds of reasons for why Jonas not have been 100% this year Pog's been a documented freak since long before he was in a position to be given exclusive access to some superdope no-one else knows about. Of course, that was the case for Lance as well. But the consistency many complain about, doping or not, HAS been helped by the increased precision and granularity of measurements to guide training. Innate differences were simply not as consistent and predictable, before watt meters, hyper precise trainers, lactate (and other) measurements etc. Not to mention on-road in-ear communication. And consistency is what's most striking about Pog. Not that he's all that massively different from the rest. 3 minutes ahead, after cycling around the entire France is only a big deal within the context of competition which specifically seeks to maximise differences. For any practical purpose, the whole peloton rides around at largely the same; freaky by any other standard; pace. But the sheer consistency of who is those few, critical, seconds faster, makes it all look more lopsided. I hope these developments don't render cycling so predictable it ceases to be exciting anymore. It has always benefitted from being the "richest" form of racing: Lot's of factors involved, compared to running, motorsports and other racing sports. Anything could happen. If performances become so predictable that Jonas and Pog may as well just compare a set of physiological measurements before the race and then go home, it will largely disappear as a widely watched sport.

His time trialling chops indicates GC fitness. When you're a great climber who can time trial with Pogi, GC does seem reasonable. It may be that Pog and Jonas truly are once-a-generation outliers. He's also, like Pog, punchy. A natural for hillier classics. Assuming there is any space left between what Pog, and what MVDP, dominates in that arena.
