Every time I go to Lowes or Home Depot for my home, I take a few minutes to look around in the lighting area to see if there is something like that, to see if it could be useful. I have never seen that thing there. But I will be looking for it next time I am there. Another good option to a high position could, of course, be a boom arm. But that would require of heavier/sturdier light stand.

Great find and idea! If you plug it into a switched socket...install a dimmer switch...and you can then vary the output. If you were just using a lamp socket...you could also install a dimmer between the wall plug and the lamp...gaining the same functionality. Or just make a dedicated dimmer extension cord setup...take it anywhere.
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Old school dimmers only work with old school lights. They are variable resistors that cut off part of the AC sine wave. LEDs are low voltage and to dim them, you must use a variable resistor on the outgoing DC low voltage, not the incoming high voltage AC.

@MisterDivineAdVenture8 ай бұрын
Very helpful! Thanks so much. 1) One can also use a 1/2 inch wood dowel as a pin - actually just as strong as the metal plate and less visible. 2) I wish those nicely made all-in-one bulb fixtures could pan - which frustrates simple overhead lighting with them. So for that I use a complicated chain: a large clamp (or pin mount), a medium ball head, a small pole clamp, and light fixture. As nice as I can afford. Which is Not cheap! But it works well and looks good where I need the flexibility.
@TacBlades Жыл бұрын
This is amazing I love it. I made a large led ring light once using the kitchen under the unit led lights that can be daisy chained, and pvc flexible tube and connectors to make a hexagon shape with adjustable pvc stand worked a treat for my photo studio.

So Mr. Markus, after watching your recent episode (for the frugal-hearted), I dropped everything and went to HomeDepot and bought the last 4 of these particular lights that they had in stock. I'm home now and playing around with them. Never thought that using these at an angle would do well in coverage, but boy was I incorrect. They work great... and am going to use a few as 'accent lights' in various parts of the room to add some ambience. Much obliged for the suggestion.

It's interesting that you mention fluorescent lighting. Since I have a limited budget I have only used this for Led florescent lighting. They also sell Led dimmers for these lights so I can change the brightness. I use them on a stand one on each side vertically with a black velcro padding strip facing the camera. This way I can keep it closer or further from my subject depending on how close I want it to the camera. The dimmers I mount on my ceiling and it lights my puppet stage perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
