I make egg-tata-roni salad with equal parts diced hardboiled eggs, diced cooked potatoes, and cooked pasta. Any shape pasta works as long as it is about the same size as the dices. You can add veggies like mushrooms, celery, peppers, and onion and your favorite mayo, dressing, or vinaigrette. It makes a perfect lite summer lunch or brunch, especially when served in a large hollowed out tomato on a lettuce leaf.

put vingear in the water when cooking, it helps with the peeling, when cooled.
@b.walker59555 жыл бұрын
@@monemetal01 I learned in cooking class the vinegar "talks" to the chemistry in the egg white and tells it to stay in place when a shell has a crack! : ) So when you remove the lid you don't have a scary large blob of egg white seeping out. Here's an odd thing, If you add vinegar to the water used to boil brown eggs something really freaky happens...the brown peels off! And it gives you the impression they were painted! Or actually skinned. It is a very delicate coating. Also FRESH eggs are most difficult to peel. You want 10 day or older eggs that are releasing/loosening from the shell before you cook them. And yet most run out and get the freshest eggs they can before boiling. Plan ahead and you will never have a hard peel again. ; ) Be well my friend!~

This!! ^^ I’ve always done this and it never fails me! Also make sure to use older eggs. Newer eggs are harder to peel. The vinegar trick helps too. If you still need to take the mayo content down, get all of the boiled egg yolks and mash them together with less mayo in a bowl, then add that to the rest of the salad and it should still turn out pretty thick and nice

Hi John! I adore your channel. Thanks for all the great recipes and tips. Here’s my tip for perfect, easy to peel eggs: -Bring the water to a boil. Make sure there’s enough water to cover the eggs you are boiling. -Gently add the eggs in one by one. (Keep eggs in the fridge until you add them to the pot. I use a slotted spoon to lower them individually into the boiling water). -Boil eggs for 11 minutes. -Remove from heat and dunk eggs in ice cold water. -Let sit for a couple minutes, then peel. They peel perfectly every time. Been doing this for years and there’s only been two or three times when my eggs got stuck to the shell. Hope this helps. Good luck!

To peel hard boiled eggs easily use old eggs. Like ones that have been in the fridge for two weeks. After they're boiled rinse them with cold water till they're cool. Peel off a little then use a plastic spoon to get under the shell and slide off the rest of the shell. Then good luck. Sometimes it seems whatever you do -- they just don't want to peel off cleanly! Love your recipe for egg salad. All I put in mine is mayonnaise and dill. Such a fresh taste. I also use the pumpernickel bread for my egg salad recipes. Love it!

Oops -- I forgot. I start with eggs in cold water -- completely submerged in the water -- then when they come to a boil turn off the burner and clamp a lid on the pot and time for 12 to 14 minutes -- depending on the size of the egg. They come out perfect every time. Be sure and crack them all over before peeling.

I started making my boiled eggs in my instant pot. I follow the directions, transfer them with tongs to cold water and crack all of them and put them back in the cold water a few seconds. They peel perfectly. I think the instant pot pressure makes the egg separate from the shell a bit more. Plus I like the texture of the egg more from the instant pot. There more soft...not as rubbery. They come out perfect every time too.

Lovely! The fresh dill is one of my favorites also, even added to a green salad it adds such a great dash of fresh flavor. The egg dilemma is one that I have conquered 3 ways. I put some vinegar in the water when I boil it, And putting into an ice bath immediately upon taking it out of the boiling water separates the membrane from the shell. Rolling it before peeling makes the shell come off in a sheet instead of large unbreakable parts that take egg with it. The onion dicing is easiest if you keep the end on with the little hairs intact. Then slice into the onion both ways holding onto it, length side and crosswise, then end by putting the knife through as you dice it falls apart. At the end just cut up to where you can to and leave the last piece of off to save for soup or bone broth. Love the bread, especially the sunflower flavor that you can get at Trader Joe's/ Aldi, etc. BTW, did you know that Trader Joe's and Aldi are owned by brothers? One went with the more trendy upscale branding and the other split off and went the Aldi route offering high quality but without all the frills attached. Anyways, thanks for sharing. Loved the recipe. I have always used apples in my "Auntie Anne's Potato Salad", but had never tried it in my egg salad. AWESOME flavor! My father was a chef and he taught me an interesting trick he learned from his instructor at CIA; gently roll the hardboiled egg with your palm against your counter (the same way you would with a lemon or lime), until the shell is crumbly and it should fall right off. Of course, that is if you use salt to boil your eggs, the salt reacts to the shell and allows it to peel. Hope it helps!
@christyc48465 жыл бұрын
I put my eggs in ice water as soon as I take them off the stove. Then once I’m ready to peel, I lightly smash an egg on the counter and roll it back and forth under my palm until all sides of the egg have been crunched up. Shell should come right off! Sometimes in one or two big pieces, but easily either way.
@1forthepeople9695 жыл бұрын
@PreppyKitchen: I really enjoyed your video. Re: Boiling eggs- What has always worked for me is you boil the eggs after you've had them 5-7 days. Fresh eggs never peel easily. I boil only 6 at a time because I'm single. Add 1teas distilled vinegar to the water. This is in case one of your eggs has a crack. It keeps the egg from flowing out into the water. Then slow boil the eggs for 10min. Turn the heat off & allow them to sit 10min more. Then put the pot in your sink & turn the cold water on them for few minutes until they cool down. Take your eggs out & refrigerate them. After an hour or so take them out & peel. When you peel start in the middle of the egg not the ends. With this method you'll not be frustrated nor disappointed! Good luck and thank you for sharing. The potato tip is great. I smash potatoes for potato salad but never thought of doing it for egg salad. 🖒

John, an easy way to peel an egg- take a small spoon, turn it over, and run the nose (put a crack in the shell first) between the shell and the egg. The contour of the spoon fits nicely with the shape of the egg and edge of the spoon does a great job lifting the shell off.

Love your videos and recipes. You appear so happy! For easier shell peeling: Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to the boiling water. I was told this does something to the shell that separates it from the egg. Also, I put the eggs in an ice bath to cool (15 -20 minutes) and I crack them against the side of the bowl to allow cool water to seep in between the egg and shell while they're cooling. Shells fall right off. I peel them holding them under water in the ice bath so as not to waste running water.

Tip for the egg peeling; right after they’re done boiling, place the eggs into a separate bowl of ice water or really really cold water for at least 5 minutes. The sooner you take the eggs and start peeling however, the eggs will just be really hot so I like to let them sit in the ice water for 15+ minutes so I can handle them better when they’re peeled! The shock of the ice water right after they’ve been boiled does something to make the eggs easier to peel idk lol but it works!

Love your recipes, your kitchen (wow!) and your style :) For easy to peel hard boiled eggs try this method: Take eggs out of the refrigerator and let sit on the counter for a few hours to take the chill off (this is to temper the eggs so they don't crack when put into boiling water). After the eggs have warmed up a bit, bring a pot of water to a full rolling boil. Add the eggs to the boiling water (I use a slotted spoon). When the water resumes boiling, set timer for 11 minutes (for medium size eggs). Take pan off burner and run cold water into the pan. Add a handful of ice cubes to the water to speed up the shock. Once eggs are cool to touch, peel or refrigerate until ready to use. This method has changed my outlook on making hard boiled eggs at home. Hope it works for you too. Thanks for all your humorous and educational videos.

I have advice on peeling and chopping hard-boiled eggs. I have pics I'll try to add. As soon as you pull them from the water dunk them in ice water. This will shock the eggs and the shell will pull away from the egg. Leave them in the ice bath for 3 or 4 minutes. Transfer them to a cutting board and lightly crush under your palm and the shell should break away easily. If it doesn't, you didn't soak them long enough. After you have removed the shell (you may dunk the egg back in the water to rinse off any shell bits that may have left behind), the best way to chop them is to put a cooling rack on top of a bowl and press the egg through the cooling rack. I hope this helps.

Title says “Without all the Mayo”. Why are you adding mayo then??
@sweetgirly84895 жыл бұрын
Because it has less mayo. It's pretty simple. The key word here is "all". There's still some.

That looks awesome!!!! I'm definitely going to try this.n As for the eggs; bring your water to a boil first. Then when done, drain or remove from water. Then Putin either ice water or just let cool. (Get cold) the colder the better. Then peel. I crack end roll, make sure that inner skin comes loose and get the shell off in 2 pieces. I learned this. If I don't make sure eggs are cold peel will stick

Hi John....if there's more eggs than potatoes, then it's egg salad.....and, if there's more potatoes than eggs......you get the idea. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water the eggs are cooking in. They will peel like a dream! Love your recipes! You're the best!💝👍

i peel eggs great. after they are boiled i put them in cold water not for very long tbh. as long as you’d like at least 2 minutes. then i crack then with the back of a spoon and use my finger gently to make an opening then i use the spoon to go around and it’s super easy!

My grandmother taught me how to peel eggs and it like completely changed my egg game! To make it easier on yourself, get the eggs ice cold in an ice bath or the refrigerator or both, then crack them all over, and I mean ALL OVER. Tap them on the counter at first, then, once they're pretty well cracked, roll between your hands them until parts of the shell literally start to fall off. After that, the egg peels like magic. The process sounds complicated, but once you get going, you can peel a dozen eggs in like 5 minutes

Thank you so much for the recipe. I made it last night and didn't expect much, but it's probably the most delicious egg salad I've tried so far ( I haven't tried many 😅) It's really good. Highly recommend to everyone who's still doubting ou there😊

Your egg salad recipe is amazing. I would never have thought of adding apples and potatoes in the egg salad. I am going to try this recipe. By the way if you cook your eggs in the instant pot the shells come off so easy.
