I was about to put exactly the same thing myself. They always look like they're just throwing it on, then you see the results this guy's got on a lot of Rob and Chris' cars and you realise how good he is.

@@steve5772 A lot of it is in prep. Being good at your job means you prepare for it well. Getting an even coat/finish doesn't take much learning, but getting that prep so clean and tidy takes a fair bit of skill. If you've had workshop/engineering/mechanical jobs where you can transfer such a mindset from, you get a headstart on a newbie to doing these things. I'd never painted a car in my life, but my missus had a dent in her rear wheel arch, some filler and a few sunny days later, the body work looks good again. Paint shop wouldn't probably done a better job, but as a first timer, the colour matches well (if anything filler is more of a pain). Making sure surface is clean, masking up properly, getting that primer on nicely & then building up a few layers of paint is really all there is too it. Lacquer coats are harder than base/colour coat just from my very brief experience doing bits and pieces.

I remember going round the scap yards in the 90s getting bits for my capris, complete interior's for those escorts were everywhere, shame there so hard to find now,I'm glad you rescued it it's a very good car and will only go up in value,same with the parts genuine parts are hard to find

Great video as always. Shame, would have loved to have seen the red Escort returned to a standard condition. Standard examples of the two door variants are hard to find due to them being turned into replicas back in the 90s. Great price for it too.

I spray painted my old Jerry cans with a rattle can I was well chuffed with the result he makes it look so easy a master at work. Ps mine was mat green. 😂😂😂 great video lots of projects keeps you busy and always interesting 👍👍👍👍

6k, why give it away? Someone will buy it, sell the car for that, then make a couple of grand plus selling the rest, I would have thought at least 8 or 9k . Rethink it, you know it makes sense .

Wow didn't even realise these worth as much these escorts I work in a metal recycling yard few weeks back we had a g reg 3 door ford escort bonus come in it was covered in dust and muck but was mint clocks showed 47k and still had a 96 tax disc in the window the interior was immaculate apart from a few cobwebs just thought its an old escort so was depolluted and bailed

Right decision on the red Escort I think although I personally think looks too good to turn it into an RS Turbo. I would think it best to sell the RS Turbo parts in one lot and sell the car separately. I'm sure many enthusiasts will want to keep it stock. You don't want it hanging about taking up space in your garages and it really mustn't be kept outside. At least you've added some value with doing the paint job. As you say, searching for an interior could take a long time. Up to someone else now to hunt for an interior or perhaps someone who already has a similar model perhaps in poorer body condition they can transfer the interior to this one.

Been watching for a few weeks and new subscriber. If I was gonna buy a car with damage i:e cat c blah blah and asked these guys to repair it I would feel confident it was roadworthy after they dealt with it. Showed all the faults and explained it and fixed. Can't ask more than that can ya. ✌🏽✌🏽

Great video, so good to see the paint shop go through the process of getting a superb finish. I think you are doing the right thing to let the escort go to someone who has the time to finish it off. As you have said the RS turbo bits will probably go to an enthusiast doing a restoration project. Hope you make a profit on the hi lux. You have plenty of projects on the go it will be good to Free up some space in your yard I am sure.

to ckeck the gearbox look into the openings the drive shaft go into, if you can see a bar going diagonal its a standard escort box, if there is no bar then its an RS Turbo with the LSD fitted to it and its work good money.

As for the car I would probably put back to original there must be someone out there with a original mint interior and you won't find a better one with that low mileage. Quite a conundrum; I think you’re doing the right thing, as the Mk4 is a lovely shell . Given the part of the world you’re in, someone will snap your hand off, I’m sure.
