I have been recommissioning a tin top Mk1 GTI so a lot of the things you have experienced with this i have too. the rotary switch in the dash for the blower will probably be knackered, mine was melted when i investigated why it wasn't working. As you will have found a lot of the wiring is thought switched at high current unlike the modern stuff that relays everything, so electrics always seem to be a problem. id say your about right on price, the convertibles are cheaper than the tin tops, that one looks good underneath which for someone who doesn't have a ramp etc is a good starting point for a running restoration fixer upper.

Hello Rob and Chris. Good video and I think the right decision. You guys are running a business so these decisions have to be made. Someone is getting a good solid car to fully restore. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
@stephenricketts77643 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with your decision Gents. That car as you say has been sat outside for almost a year. I remember it was covered in snow soon after you got it so it's been exposed to the elements. I think it will be a nice project for someone to finish over the winter ready for the show season next year. I have enjoyed the videos on this project very much. Most of it is old school mechanics which is right up my street! Thanks again Rob and Chris for the video. 👍👍

That’s going to be a lovely car when it’s finished & to be fair I think someone going to have an easy enough job to finish it…you lads have done a great job on the underside of it & Considering everything you have done I think it’s very fairly priced for what it is so well done again you’re two really good lads keep doing what you do best 👍😊

Sad to see it go before it’s finished. I was looking forward to Chris sorting through the bodywork repairs. Too many escorts 😁😁😁😁. Underneath looks blooming marvellous, nice job. Although I think there should be plastic front wheel arch liners???? To protect the paint I would have retreated the wax oil coating that was removed . Most vw’s were rust prevention treated at the factory, hence why the underside is in good condition for its age. There’s still so much work to do on this vw, but understand the time issue for finishing projects. Thanks for going as far as you have… inwards and upwards 👍🏻

@richardadriver3 жыл бұрын
Doing the right thing here Rob, the classics you have bought have been nice to see, but if they hang around too long, they are not generating turnover. One or maybe two as ongoing projects, but the newer ones are generally easier to deal with and turn around - just a thought.

I loved having my MK1 colour concept MK1 GTi back in the day and the brakes weren’t brilliant from the factory on RHD. Gone are the days that I could afford one now but I picked up a bargain MK3.5 Colour Concept in beautiful condition for £250 with a ticket and 80000 on the clock that only needs a good detail. That seat material was also available on the scirocco back in the day as when I did my seat bolster I was lucky enough to cut the material off a passenger seat out of a scrap one. The best place for a roof for that car is Soft tops Croydon as they can never be beaten on price and quality and the original roof colour on my car was white when it came out the factory.

Rob & Chris. you have to move stock on to keep going so I would say selling it as a a rolling project is the right thing to do. You have given someone a great platform to start from. Had a friend who had one with a white roof was a show and shine winner but it started out worst than yours.

That looked like the rear fog light just had one bulb in, which was standard for VW at the time. Only one foglight is required so they only put the bulb in one side, for the relevant European Countries (ie lhd or rhd). At the time the cost to VW per bulb was pence, but the saving in not putting one in where it wasn't required was immense.

Thats a steal at 4k Lads. The market is totally mental just now for classics, I bought a classic impreza turbo UK supplied car 8 years ago for £1200 with every receipt imaginable, spent £2K on it last summer having all the rot sorted and a respray (Mates rates) plus probably another £1K over the 8 years and I just sold it 3 weeks ago for £10K so it can be my Deposit on a GR Yaris well chuffed now is the time to sell the classics and cash in = Result

Now got new tank pump, fuel pump, head gasket, new alpine white paint, radiator, thermostat, radiator, struts, tires, wheel bearings, new roof black, temperature sensors, switches, now runs like a top and looks great just need to replace the seats or redo them.
