Watching Ginger's face through that was great. I knew what was coming. She was 13 when she sang that, so still maturing. It's one of her amazing performances. I try not to watch it too often as I don't want it to become stale, once again it brought tears to my eyes, so beautiful, powerful, and emotional.

That performance was the 19th item in the program of the 2017 "Classics is Groot" ("Classics are great") concert, of which there were three performances, in the Moreleta auditorium in Pretoria, South Africa, which seats about 7500 people. This was the third item that Amira sang; she previously sang "Nessun Dorma" from the opera "Turandot" by Puccini (in Italian), and the Flower duet (with Corlea Botha) from the opera "Lakme", by Delibes (in French). The superb musical arrangement was by the musical director for Coleske Artists, Deveraux van der Hoven-Oosthuizen. Amira had signed a recording contract with Coleske Artists in February 2017. The DVD of this concert may still be available from Amira's charity Foundation, Gelukskinders.

I just can't comment anymore. I've run out of accolades! I've followed this beautiful young girl since HGT 2013 and since then she has just got better and better and better and I cannot be anymore in love with her and her voice than I am. She is, by far, the greatest soprano on this planet, sent by God to uplift our spirits and she does that with her most beautiful voice and humanitarian acts.

Amira is never disappoints. Even at age 9. Thank you for the question about the conductor. I have better understanding and appreciation of their part. I wondered, they start the song but the musicians know their part and timing. Now I see if you have say 5 violin’s they all need to start at precisely the same time or it’s not clean and clear. Here for example he started and stopped the bag pipes all at same time. That’s great

In this reaction you were asking about the conductor. The conductor manages/controls the entire performance. For the orchestra, the choir/chorus, and for the vocalist. However, in this performance Amira is center stage front and the orchestra is to the right and behind the performer. Amira has always been pitch perfect, and tempo perfect in her performances. She set the tempo, and the conductor kind of 'follows' her lead. Amira commands the stage and performs to the entire audience as the pans back and forth for the entire song, delivering her performance to everyone. Her stage presence has always been amazing, from the very beginning at age 9. She has that amazing ability to not have nerves, or show stage fright. Only in her very first Hollands Got Talent audition, just before her performance she showed apprehension/nerves before the music started. In her early years she kind of had a child mode before, went into a performance mode during, and then back again to child mode after the performance. He voice has matured elegantly, and is perhaps the best young 'pop-era' singer ever. Just my opinion. Love your reactions.

When Amira sang this song, as has been noted in other comments, she was 13 years old. On 27 March of 2022, she turned 18, and is now "on Her Own",. Her body has matured, her voice has matured, and she herself has matured. I just turned 77 at the end of September, and I (nor anyone else,) knows how much longer I'll be listening to Amira. But whatever she sings, I hope you, Ginger and Mike, will continue reacting to her. I do so much enjoy listening to your comments. By the way, the song was written by a slave runner, after his conversion and baptism to Christianity, in celebration of his new spiritual live. He, at least, never intended it to be especially a funeral song.
@wajj18422 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is played at funerals a lot, but it is also the British anthem for the abolishment of Slavery. The writer was a British minister and former slave trader who renounced slavery and wrote this as his repentence. It was first a poem or sermon, then put to music, and later the music was changed in the U.S. to the song we know today. When you listen to the words in that context ("that saved a wretch like me"), the meaning touches right to the heart of just how horrible stavery is. Makes me cry just hearing it in that context. And Amira's performance is a 10+. Basically, she is just a Giant WOW!!! She is truly a Phenom! I also highly recommend the Pentatonix version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZPTXmx4er-YZ8U Taken with Amira's performance, they are my all time favorites. Best wishes, M and G. 😊😊

The conversation about conductors reminded me, that Amira had a go at conducting the orchestra at her 18th birthday concert. As Richard Cock, the official conductor said, she has a very distinctive style! She conducted them playing Happy Birthday. It's not on you tube unfortunately, but immediately afterwards she sang Nearer my God to thee, and that is available to view.

There is a school for conductors. I think Alma Deutscher recently mentioned she attends one. As she is a celebrated violinist, pianist and composer, it will be another string to her bow (no pun intended). Since writing the above I've seen a short video of her conducting.

Nice, but too much vibrato for me.
@Aaron-ni2eu2 жыл бұрын
A good performance, but nothing special compared with other professional / opera singers. Her singing voice lacks depth and feels quite tight, compare this to Katherine Jenkins version of Amazing grace to see how much richer her version is. Or if you move away from the Operatic voice, Angelina Jordan's breath control, scope and varied vocal techniques are so much better.
@yogajedi33372 жыл бұрын
Angilina is an impersonator of old jazz style and her other cover stuff just makes me want to sleep how boring they are compared to the original. Amira does not have the big voice, she now is into more Musical stuff. She will start study Drama, Acting, dance at university. And Amira musical stuff already is on a professional level so far ahead from sleepy Angelina. Between Katherine Jenkins vibrato just off the chart wobbly, but guess that is your preference.

It's a matter of taste for the voice. I know Katherine Jenkins is an excellent operatic singer, but, I don't really like her tone. I know Pavarotti was regarded as the best by some, but I didn't prefer him over the other great tenor Placido Domingo. All have excellent voices, but, it's a choice of the people's preferences.

Why Compare totally different gifted voices in these children? They are nothing like each other, so, therefore should be judged on their own merits. Both are absolutely fantastic in my opinion, musical geniuses!!!!!! I love listening to both.
