At present sewing with my aged Husqvarna Viking 19E which is now 54 years old. Working as well now as it did when it was new, when I first started sewing when I was a kid !!!

Arshad.. The black knob on the front may be turned clockwise instead of counter clockwise. In essence, the knob dot should be at the 12 O'Clock position for regular sewing. If that doesn't resolve the problem, there are several lubrication pivot points in the free arm housing that can be identified by lubrication pads. Place 6-10 drops of machine oil on those areas, and if you feel they are frozen, use the heat of a hair dryer to loosen the pivot points while moving the hand wheel. Scott

I bought one of these machines. Its so pretty! Its very decent shape; I cleaned as best as I could and oiled it. The only thing wrong is there is no stitch length adjustment. All it will do is a very fine little stitch. Its great for free motion quilting, but not so much for regular sewing. I got for sewing thru the heavier materials. Are the belts for them hard to find? I have never seen a belt like it before. Thanks Carol

+CowCountryVintageSewing MachinesAndRestoration I usually call it a tank - it will sew through anything! I'm just trying my hand at free motion quilting on my newer Janome, and after seeing this video I might give it a try on the Viking... I'm not sure what tension and stitch settings to use though. I'll have to experiment 😏 My mom bought this machine new in June of 1965. I learned to sew on it and I hope to one day teach my granddaughter on it!

Hi Lory.. A total beginner here... Looking on eBay I have immediately liked the look of this machine. And after watching vids I find I prefer this make above the vintage Singers I that I see. Am I right ? I really won't be doing much other than straight stitch on heavy cotton.. However if I wanted I bet this machine would cope with light weight leather. Thank you..

I hope i'm not too late to post a question here. I have 19E model which is handed over by my mother-in-law and also with dutch manual. My problem is that I can't do zigzag stitch only straight ones. My husband even helped me read the manual and it says the knob should be pointing either 3 & 4... But nothing happened. Maybe u can help me? Thanks. You're video is so useful for me since i am a newbie and owning this machine is really a privilege.

Where can you send me to tell the difference between the different Viking models: 19cl and 21, 21a, 21e. Confused - all I can see as difference is the stitch length knob or bar.

+Très Younique (Elisheva.K) - Twenty plus years is a very long time for a machine to sit idle, particularly if it was stored in a location that was damp or dusty. Belts can dry rot, gears can rust, wires can become brittle, and oil and grease becomes clay like, providing no lubrication whatsoever. Take it to your nearest sewing service center, and tell them you need deep cleaning and a complete service with timing. Videos provide ongoing maintenance tips, this is nothing short of a restoration. Good luck, and if you have not subscribed to my channel yet, I welcome you to do so. Take care, Scott

My machine only sews backwards, or reverse... It won't go forward. The button/turn dial, won't work. And here's the catch, it won't work on two machines. I have two of the same sewing machines. What can I do? Am I doing something wrong?
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther, The issue of not being able to sew forward, could be one of two things: 1). A simple lubrication issue which can resolved by opening the rear panel near the cam gears, and placing machine oil or kerosene on the pivot point that runs to the back of the button. If this area is dry, once the button is depressed, it does not pop back, and stays in reverse.This directional cluster is designed to rotate forward or backward, and there is a spring integrated that causes the rotation to occur naturally. 2). The spring may have lost tension, or is broken. This makes matters much more complicated, and will require professional assistance. I've repaired these numerous times, and it is a difficult process. The alternative is to manually (by hand) rotate the directional cluster depending on the direction of sewing you're wanting to do - not ideal, but better than being stuck in reverse forever! I hope this helps, and thanks for your questions, Scott

Hello there, perhaps you could help me please? I just got a most beautiful Huskvarna zig zag sm 14-220 but cannot find an instruction manual anywhere online unfortunately. I am trying to find out if it works but I have only used a singer before, I am a very amateur sewer, all I learned was by watching my grandmother as a very young child. Now I live in Sweden and my brother happened to find this unbelievably lovely sewing machine which I bought online. It looks like it is in perfect shape. How do I test it to see if it works? And how do I oil it? I would really appreciate it so very much if you had any suggestions, kindest regards, Katerina

hello, I’ve just bought a husqvarna zig zag 19 e, original from 1964. in the netherlands, where im living right now. It has one little problem that when i plug it starts sewing alone, the needle starts working without the pedal, and i can’t turn it off without unplugging it. i was wondering if this was a common problem of this model , and if you knew what the solution is, or where i can look for the solution. thank you in advanced for your help, kind regards,
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair 10 жыл бұрын
Dear Freaksonico: The most common reason for this is the incorrect wiring of the foot controller, or a damaged one. The foot control by design completes the circuit for operating the machine, and if it is wired incorrectly, will cause the machine to run continuously when powered. If you have the original SPEED style one as illustrated in my video, and it's damaged, I suggest replacing it. If you can't locate one, I'll gladly assist. Thank you, Scott

Axell Andersen Hi Axell, Both of these machines fall under the SPECIAL green series for Husqvarna, and should get the job done well. Depending on the design features of your 19 A, you may or may not have engineered cams, which is a real plus on the 19 E model. Good sewing, and thank you for your question! Scott

Hi QuiltFantasy, I hope they didn't charge you more for a machine that only sews backwards... a unique novelty...(smiling). Assuming nothing is broken, the forward and reverse function for a Husqvarna Viking 21E is fairly simple. I will put together an Instructional video, since this has come up before, and for a modest fee (significantly less than a service charge) you can view it. I'll try to do it today, so keep watch..!

Hello Scott In regard to adjusting tension for the Gearbox to motor, on the Viking 19e. I noticed that the scew has a shoulder that allows the gear housing to flot with spring tension from outer lower left side of bobin gear bracket. I picked this up on ebay in as is condition, not working. Runs good after a little bit of lube and working things back and forth with solvent to free up varnish from old oil that turned golden brown in color like penzoil on camshafts, of engines. However the tension seems loose but it does not seem to slip. I need new plastic covers for the motor and pulley assembly. What can you tell me about sourcing parts. Also are service manuals available in pdf form? Thank You in advance Robert
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair
@CowCountryVintageSewingRepair 8 жыл бұрын
+Robert Freeland -As you loosen the screw, (the one you are pointing at in the photo you shared) maintain light tension on the pivoting bobbin winding assembly. By drawing it downward, and to the left, you can carefully balance tension between the pulley off the motor to the bobbin winder, and the pulley system powering the balance wheel. (more)Because engaging the motor naturally adds some tension to the belts, leave a tiny bit of play so the motor does not have to work unnecessarily harder. Once positioned and balanced correctly, hold the position, and re-tighten the screw. Double check that the long belt is properly grooved in the feed pulleys, and to increase start-off grip, you can lightly dip a Q-tip in 70% rubbing alcohol, and clean the inside of the pulley that the belt rides on.As far as housing cover parts, I likely have the ones you need, and if you check my videos on the Husqvarna Viking 19E, I've added a FREE .pdf copy of the owner's manual.Hope this helps, and let me know if you need something else.All the best, Scott
