I was very honored to have interviewed former professional athlete Mark Sisson as part of my docuseries: The Real Skinny on Fat.
A former long distance runner, triathlete and Ironman competitor, Mark was kind enough to share his ketogenic diet conversion testimony and offers profound insight into how keto, low carb, and fasting affected him on many levels, as well sharing fascinating information as it relates to athletic performance as well as how keto and fasting can benefit us physically and mentally in our every day lives.
This video comprises highlights from a much longer interview as part of our series. Be sure to visit my website at www.naomiwhittel.com to learn more.
I want to thank Mark for his time and sharing his expertise on these subjects.
Thanks for watching! :)

I wish my sister in law would want to watch this, though she might not know English well enough. We are at our wits' end (my husband and I) on how to help her, because she's running a lot, and rationalizing a lot of carb intake because of that just like Mark Sisson here, and she's now gained fat even... and has some health issues. But she also studied food technology and later something like dietary studies and there's just no talking to her :( She knows better" because "she studied all that".. But she doesn't and all that remains is our own journey to health and weight loss. Perhaps at some point it'll open her eyes... I really hope so.

Mr. Sisson at some point recommends plant foods, but many « cavemen » probably had zero vegetables for 10 to 12 months out of the year. My forebears were Neanderthals, shown to be 95% carnivorous. Got Northern ancestry? Just eat good and fatty meat baby! As I got older (in my 50s), I found that eating grains and vegetables and fruit made me sick. Having one-third of a potato as a test after going full carnivore for 30 days gave me horrible symptoms of anxiety (woke me up in the middle of the night) and a skin-crawling feeling that was extremely unpleasant ! Bye-bye potatoes! It is eye-opening to research the anti-nutrients in plants. So I think we have to do our own personal experiments, and I believe our activity level and age may greatly influence the way we should eat.

@blackstatis0355 5 жыл бұрын
YouNolf if you only eat meat, your body will break down the protein into glucose. You can sustain and thrive based on that principle. The body doesn’t store protein though right, it lightly stores glucose but then excess glucose as fat and it stores fat, so excess protein has to be shed or converted?
@YouNolf
@YouNolf 5 жыл бұрын
@@blackstatis0355 if you eat only lean meat you will die. Eating fatty meat you use ketones as body fuel, and some amino acids are converted to glucose as needed. I only argue that long distance runners aren’t sacrificing muscle. The body is simply adapting metabolically and physiologically to what it’s asked to do and endure. It responds in turn by doing it in the most efficient and proficient way possible. Lean, thin and light is the only way to go for a long distance runner. What an amazing thing.

So how about teaching we who are blood type "O's" what food we can eat on a KETO diet? Because there isn't much, for some of us. And if you are really wise, put as much time into studying where your soul will live in the afterlife, as EVERYBODY will eventually die, no matter what you do or don't, put into it ...

Go to Dr Berg channel and search on Keto for Beginneers. Go through all the foods in your pantry/fridge that have more than just a few carbs or any sugar and give that away. Go to the store and buy grass fed meats, eggs, avocados - look up at list of Keto foods. Change your diet to 5% carbs, 75% fat, 20% protein.

Bart, look up Dr. Jason Fung on KZbin. He has several videos about intermittent fasting and eating low carb. He is a kidney doctor in Canada who has helped several diabetics. He has written a few books also such as The Obesity Code and others. If you’re Type 1, he recommends working closely with a doctor if you follow his plan.

I do lots of fasting and feel great.. About keto diet I don't believe eating lots of meat and fish is good.. It would be maybe theoretically, but meat and fish nowdays are very contaminated with chemicals and drugs so personally I stay vegetarian.

This guy is confused, Fat is burned ?? Fat is converted to glucose by the process of glycogen-is

No. Glycogenesis is the formation of glycogen from glucose. When fat is burned (not stored) that fat is converted into carbon dioxide and water.

Diane Gordon yeah I’m not sure how you argue with it. Every time I go keto within 30 days I lose weight, my stomach issues disappear, my reflux vanishes. I sleep better and I wake up WAY quicker. I don’t even know the science of it, but the proof is in the pudding.
