I am 70 which I could show you if I knew how to add a picture. I had SLE for 20 years and developed IBS, high bp, high cholesterol, pancytopinia, severe joint pain and disintegration to where I have a replaced hip and both knees replaced. I had inflammation of the lining of my heart and stage 3 kidney disease. I have been on a keto lifestyle for a little more than a year now. I have lost about 100 pounds and SLE is in complete remission and all the other problems have resolved. I was taking six prescription meds and now I’m taking none. I feel better than I have in 20 years. I am 70 years old. Best thing I ever did for myself!

I have lost six stone quite easily and i ingest the best part of half a pound of kerrygold butter a day you will need to use your own common sense for your weight but the information is out there.

I have been in ketosis for 90% of the time for the past two years. My blood beta-hydroxybutyrate ranges from .60 to 1.90 mmol/l. I am not too concerned about the ketone level because the level will fluctuate given the balance between ketogenesis and ketolysis. Stephen D. Phinney, MD, Ph.D., co-author of "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance" uses .50 mmol/l as the minimum. My workouts are no impaired since I have been on the keto diet. I still get a pump with high rep exercises which indicates glycogen storage not detrimentally reduced. I'm 185 lbs with body fat at 9.7% measured by DXA scan. In fact, my lean mass has increased between the ten months period between two DXA scans. My diet is about 70% fats, 20% proteins, and 10% carbohydrates. I eat lots of green leafy vegetables which are low in carbs, high in fiber and they are sources of nitrates for the body to produce nitric oxide. The satiety state in spite of not eating for hours and mental clarity have been benefiting from the diet. I try to maintain an intake of protein sufficient for muscle protein synthesis and to avoid more than necessary which may result in breaking me out of nutritional ketosis.

Noel Lawlor because they react differently to insulin. Their spike after carbs is much smaller than those with other metabolic syndromes.

Check out Mike Mutzel's interview with Dr Ted Naiman over at High Intensity Health. Dr Naiman explains it. Best explanation I have ever seen. Explains why there are alot of obese but metabolically normal people and why there are alot of skinny diabetics. I'm a physician. I see ALOT of skinny diabetics. If an obese diabetic loses weight their diabetes disappears. Thin diabetics have no where to go. They MUST manage their diabetes other ways.

Excess protein can be converted into glucose (I think), this will spike insulin.
@pragmatica10326 жыл бұрын
This is a myth Mathis H. Conversion to glucose may happen, but this process is based on demand. I.e., if your body's glucose level falls too low, then the liver will start producing glucose from either proteins or fats. (google GNG chocolate cake protein for more)

How are carbohydrates "inflammatory"? Also, virtually every study done shows no performance benefit in athletics.
@ktr10246 жыл бұрын
I suppose it's in reference to an excess of non-fibrous carbohydrates causing inflammation, such as the issues found common in diabetics, or those with cadiac conditions... who many have lived a life consuming too many carbohydrates that lead to inflammation of the pancreas and/or vessels. These are just some quick examples, not all-inclusive. Again, I believe it would be an excess... just like an excess of anything can lead to inflammation.

It is hard listening to a person that believes we evolved from apes. I personally don't believe that. He would have done better to leave his personal believe out of this subject and just focus on the science of the plan and why it works.
@mroctober29786 жыл бұрын
He did stick with the science. Science says we evolved from apes. Your the one operating on 'belief'.
@zeppale6 жыл бұрын
Sorry no Science in this world or any other that proves we evolved from apes. Check the fossil record. There is a reason it is called the Theory of evolution. Any way my opinion does not matter to anyone but me.
@mroctober29786 жыл бұрын
Gwendon smith There's also the theory if gravity and not believing it won't help if you stepped off a roof.

If gravity were a theory and not proven fact we should be able to jump of a building and fly away. Gravity is a fact you jump off a building and you fall to the ground. Fact no theory.

@jasperthebeau60756 жыл бұрын
Reply isnt working for me for some reason....this is in reply to Gwendon smith... If we didn't evolve from apes our bodies wouldn't have learned to use fat and ketones as an energy source. We weren't hunter/gatherers 4000 years ago therefore should we not have evolved (in 4000 years I suppose) to effectively use carbohydrates as a fuel source? The old testament states (not explicitly, but when you look at who was born and when the math supports it) people lived well over 100 years old (the length of time our bodies were designed to last). But 4000 years ago agricultural foods were a staple of our food source so how could they have lived that long on a grain based diet? The fact (not theory) that a ketogenic diet works is added proof that we evolved from apes.

I am sorry but this video doesn't make any sense. I am not an advocate of simple or processed carbs but if we have to speak about evolution, I think that we discovered the grains (complex carbs) it's because we had to move to the next level. Don't tell me that ketogenic diet is sustainable for the long run. I think that this kind of diet tries to reset the human biology which is very dangerous to play with because you cannot nor don't know what will be the consequences from being on keto diet for long periods of time. Without further due, follow diets that are sustainable such as vegan if you want to be really healthy.

Intermittent fasting over a year which keeps my insulin low. Now I have been doing Keto over six months and eating 1 meal a day for 3 months which keeps my insulin lower. I am getting stronger...like an Ox and I am going to see abs for the first time in my life. Why wouldn't I want to sustain this? Once you learn how to eat and adapt...it is EASY. I am 47 year old. Do not be blind by the nonsense out there. This is the Holy Grail of fitness whether people want to accept it or not. I can not even make myself eat like I use to. I will sustain this to the day I die which is going to be over a 100 years. I believe that. :)

Dusty Ok...please explain how you know what I have done in my life. I am eating the same or more calories than I have done in the past. Please explain how I can get leaner while eating the same or more calories? I guess all the results that people are experiencing is fake. You can believe what you want but you can not say what people are experiencing is not real. I studied nutrition and know the basics. I have done all the reasonable healthy diet plans in the past. I cut out simple sugars...I went vegan for a while....Anything processed I would not eat. Yes...I did experience positive results doing this but not like this on Keto. I shouldn't be getting leaner at 47 than I did at 23 eating the same amount of calories. I am also a personal trainer for 18 years and have been working out since I was 15. I always struggled with fat. I know more and I am more disciplined than the average person when it comes to working out and eating healthy. I think I know what I said. Here is a tip for you....do not judge other people without knowing who they are personally.
@oa26216 жыл бұрын
Dusty Ok I guess you know it all. You act like you know for a fact that I did not know what you just stated. All I am saying is that the Keto and intermittent fasting is awesome and I practice both of them. The science is there, But you seem to have a problem with people that are praising this lifestyle. Ask yourself, why do I hate? If it did not work for you...be easy hater. I am done with you. People like you have psychological issues and a decent discussion turns into combat. I reject your negative energy. ✌️
