A $150 gun today is a $50 gun 20 years ago. You didn’t overpay, a cheap gun that shoots is always a good thing! I’d have picked it up for that price too.

Very cool. The first gun I bought for home defense was an RG 22/22 Magnum in 1968. Mine was made in Germany. I think it was $99.00 back then. It did have a zinc frame. Minnesota outlawed guns with a certain low melting point shortly thereafter. It actually looked good and shot just fine. Thanks

Correct company name is ,Röhm' , production of real firearms ended long ago. You can still find Röhm blankguns, but as far as i know, now produced by Umarex company. For the reason , that german gunlaw is rather restrictive, so there is nowadays no more a market for cheap real guns, and only two companies are remaining, Weihrauch - Arminius and ME ( Kuno Melcher), the second company produces blankguns, and only for czech market revolvers in 4 and 6 mm Flobert ( the Primer of this tiny rimfire cartridges IS only Charge).

I had forgotten the Model 63 ever existed! But seeing your revolver brought back a memory from a B- "modern" Western I have somewhere in my DVD collection. At one point in that movie a Doc Holiday rip off character refers to his two revolvers as "Colt's Thunders" and does a quick draw of sorts from twin shoulder holsters to impress the bad guys. The same bad guys he later "killed" during a High Noon shootout rip off. When I first saw those revolvers, I thought that if they were Colts of any vintage or name somebody in management AND design needed to be fired immediately and drummed out of the firearms industry. Excellent video as usual! Keep 'em comin'!

You're definitely the king of pawn shop finds. Very nice gun for a small price. I like old equipment like that. When I was a kid we used to go explore old oil pump installations in Pennsylvania. There was generally a central power station AK an old massive one cylinder gas engine, that pulled on steel rods, kind of like a cable, that went out to various pumps.

Fortunately for me there are several pawn shops in my area that usually sell their used firearms at reasonable prices and once in a while I get lucky. They had one of these in Route 66 G&A for a couple high denomination bills while back in worse condition. Looked like someone used it to pound tent spikes. I still debated buying it because I have a bit of a soft spot for Saturday Night Specials. I handled the revolver and found you need to hold it at halfcock with your thumb to load it. Unless that Colt was worn out you got a good deal on it. I have a pair of them and they are fun and powerful. The .32-20 is a pricey cartridge anymore but I got mine 30 years ago. You used to be able to reload them pretty cheaply.
@EC-mc7vg
@EC-mc7vg Жыл бұрын
@@MrTruckerf Unfortunately, someone years ago tried to refinish the old Colt. They put on some kind of deep black ?paint?, not sure what it is, but it appears they sanded on the frame and barrel, the stamping on the barrel is somewhat hard to read and the Colt pony logo on the side of the frame is all but sanded off. The grips are not original wood grips, they have been replaced at some point with black pearl grips, but they are old and in great condition. She is still in working order and could be fired. The bolt is a little worn and I will probably replace it. I will either re-blue it or have it re-blued. It is a neat piece of history and no telling who has owned the gun over the years, could have even been a gangster or cop. Yes, .32-20 is very expensive if you can find it and I don't reload.

I have an RG Model 66 single action in 22. It was broke when my dad brought it home back in the 70s. Another cop had bought it, took it to the range, it broke right out of the box. After disassembly and police armorer diagnosis thst it was a lost cause, it went in the trash. My dad ended up fishing it out, tried to put it back together and get it to work. No luck. It went in a drawer. It’s a real POS. RGs tend to run around $150 average today. The old Handgun Test Magazine wrote articles on the once in a while. Surprisingly occasionally one would work. RGs were designed to go bang a few times. How many times or how accurate they launched bullets were variables that did not concern the manufacturer.

Surprisingly nice for a Röhm, I never really hear anything good about any of their guns. It strikes me that this is almost a clone of a Colt Lightning (Thunderer, Rainmaker, etc), with the gate loading and the double-action capability. It's sad to me that those early Colt double-action revolvers aren't copied by anyone. I'd love it even if they don't copy the flimsy lockup and instead just do conventional modern locking, I just want the look and the handling, a new grip frame on a single-action only revolver isn't enough for me.

My only concern would be zinc rot: zinc alloys react badly with lead, so I’d coat the lead weight fully in glue so that it's not touching the frame and clean her really well. other than that, if it works it works.

I recall I once read some forum thread or article by an old timer, who said that those little scrappy Röhm .22s were fantastic as tacklebox guns because they only had to shoot a shot every now and then, and if you dropped it overboard, it was so cheap and chintzy it wasn't a big deal and you wouldn't miss it much. I believe he resolved to coat the thing in truckbed liner for rust protection (on the steel parts), because it didn't need to look pretty, and it really didn't look pretty to begin with anyway. It's nice to see a more high effort revolver, and for something less usual like a Colt 1873 lookalike with double-action. The thing could pass for a Colt 1877 if you squint.

My mother owned a rohm 38 spl double action pistol and carried it for many year as backup when deer hunting. Dad still has it and will hand it down to one of us kids when the time comes.

I actually had one just like that for many many years and it worked fine . The only thing I didn't like about it was the way it reloaded (it took too long) I finally traded it for a Smith and Wesson model 10 with the bull barrel.

I still have that old no-name revolver, which I bought at a pawn shop, and I'm hoping to get it in another video in the near future. I might gather up all of my pawn shop guns and do a video review, which should be lots of fun.

Not bad. At today's prices, $150 is cheap. Thanks for the review, Mike in Oregon.

I bought one of their .22 revolvers for $25 a few decades back. It was missing the ejection rod, but still worked.

Good looking revolver . I still love revolvers. All my friends carry modern pistols. But I'm holding out with my DA/SA revolvers 👍

Those ol el cheapo guns are a lot of fun sometimes. Me and my pop used to have some great fun and big belly laughs shootin a few Titans, Rohms, and even a Clerke that we kept in our collection just for fun. 😁

Not a bad find! Interesting how the hammer doesn't fully come to rest against the frame when a shot is fired. Accuracy looks plenty good, and reliability the same. All things considered, a fair return for the $$$ spent. From the barrel markings, I'd speculate that it was made in Brazil under license from Rohm GmbH ("Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung", equivalent to LLC) of Germany. You have a nack for finding the most unusual firearms at pawn shops. Well-done! Also enjoyed seeing the old stamp mill, tailing pile, and associated mining digs. Cheers.

I swapped a spare 2" Barkeep to a lady (she wanted a snubby .22) for a rg/rohm 66 .22, actually surprised how well it works. Target grips, adj sights (you can cut new rear shapes from a beer can and replace them 😂) So far it seems a perfectly usable farm/woods pistol for trapping and such.

I kinda like it too! I noticed that you have to hold the hammer back a bit to allow the cylinder to rotate for loading but that's a minor thing really on a plinker like that. Contrats!
@mixup98

Unfortunately there isn't a loading notch on the hammer, and the hammer has to be held back manually in order to rotate the cylinder. Must have been a cost saving design.

It's cheap and it goes bang, checks all the marks for me. I wouldn't want to feed it anything other than light loads, but you can reload light 38spl all day long. I have a Rohm model 66 with the 22 magnum cylinder, it's SA only but you can swap in a 22lr cylinder. The frame is cracked just above the grip, so I don't shoot it very often.

I’ll never buy an RG again , first was an rig 23 chrome 22lr , over 50 years ago . The hammer was so soft that the firing pin wore a divot in it and caused light strikes. The next was an RG10 22 short , dropped it on the asphalt getting out of an old Dodge pu ( like the one on the desert) . Gun discharged bullet came up through the running board and shot me in the lower left leg .l have probably left this comment before, all said that 38 might not have a hammer block either.
