Retreads are used in all countries, in the USA almost half of all semi truck tires currently used on the road are retreads. Studies have been conducted on the safety of these tires, and found that the manner in which they're adhered and mounted to the tires doesn't compromise the structure of the tire, the failure mode in which the tread peels off the tire is extremely unlikely and certainly not the weakest link in the tire's construction. Practical studies have also been conducted on tire failure rates in the USA, and it's about 50-50 between retreaded and standard tires. They found the primary mode of tire failure was low pressure (tire pressures weren't checked regularly enough by the operators).

Retreaded tires are a joke! The roads are littered with scraps of blown tires! There is a reason why many States in the USA have outlawed them for use on steer tires as they are more prone to failure. Both experiences with a tire blow-out while operating a combination CMV have been with re-caps/retreads. Nothing like having glue, which is used for school craft projects, holding the truck/trailer to the road at 100k lbs!
@bellezayverdad9 ай бұрын
With the right procedure and quality control, they are just as safe as new tyres. It is wrong that they are held with "glue" for "school craft projects". The new thread is bonded to the old casing through a vulcanisation process inside a special oven. You talk non-sense.

Recaps/retreads are the ONLY tires that leave the remnants behind (long strips of rubber) on the highway from. I also used to be a Heavy Duty mechanic and my forst year was working with tires only for tractor trailers (semis). The recaps/retreads are replaced far more often.
