I wish they just had more sockets & a speed wrench, or a T-handle, they're using an Ell that, I haven't seen since a 60's Sears Craftsman catalog.

This is a Caterpillar 140G Motor Grader. Looks like they found a couple of teeth missing from the Composite Brake Discs, but that shouldn't have caused a major repair like this. It also looks like the O-ring seals may have failed on the air- actuated brake piston which would have justified a major repair like this. These gentlemen do great work! I hope they're being paid well for their expert mechanical skills!

On disassembly the mechanic showed the camera the broken teeth on the differential clutch assembly. They proceeded to total strip the diff clean it then re-assembled it complete with the cutch plates with the broken teeth. Just what was the point of that exercise. Give it a couple of months at most they will be back where they started

Never understood these guys, why cant you use a clean table or a small enclosed area to work on these parts, and its not about being poor or not having the resources. Mechanics can fabricate a small table out of scrap. These parts need to be very clean and lubricated without getting dusty , no excuses in my mind sorry

I’ve never seen a clean table or small enclosed area on a Cat, Deere, or Komatsu service truck out in the field, yet our skidders, feller-bunchers, excavators, etc, turn out just fine after field repairs. We try to lowbed them to the shop but it’s not always possible or feasible.

Get some longer bolts-cut the heads of and round sharp edges. Install in tandem for easy removal and at reassembly --If they had a 1/2 inch drive ratchet and sockets 7/16 to 1 and 1/2 size it would make work fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!! old cat mechanic

that is PK style, add more sand in the bearings, damage few grooves and bolts with inapropriate tools use kebab oil to lubricate, and let the broken teeth in place

They’re not broken teeth, with wet brakes there has to be a way for the oil to get out when the brakes are applied.
