About that emergency call thing. I'm not sure how many people it actually saves, but the added value is in the fact that a) It calls in case you might be incapable. The heart attack you've simulated might be one, after a crash where you're unable to move or are unconscious might be other. If you do not assure the emergency service you're fine, but there's silence, mayhem or anything, they send the help. b) It adds metadata that would take time to get out of (panicking) people over the phone otherwise, like the exact position of the car, number of occupants, etc. I've heard of someone who missed the fact the eCall thing called after a crash (because there was panic in the car at the time) and bunch of emergency services arrived even before they had the time to recover enough sense to call them. It turned out everyone was fine, there were no injuries, just panic so they weren't exactly needed, but if they were, they would have been there much sooner. It of course works much better in densely populated areas where the emergency services are close.

I think calling emergency should get high points, that could save a life. One thing is to stop the car but if you’re in a remote location nobody may come by for a long time or they may not stop. Unlocking the car is also important when a regular citizen wants to help and cannot get into the car. Turning on the light in the car doesn’t seem that important to me. The emergency button for the passenger should also get a point. It’s less likely to be used but a great idea.

Would like to see how the new Taycan does on this test, if the Macan system is still superior it may sway buyers who do a lot of highway driving. Crazy it’s not standard. Might persuade people who are on the fence between Taycan and Macan, but happy to get a cheaper Macan with better tech. Kathy & Dave made a good case for her Macan spec, only what she wanted and needed. Fair enough.

Your driver assistance testing is critical for me. I have already placed an order for the 2025 Macan 4S with all the options, dealer delivery scheduled for 1/17/2025. I use all versions of driver assistance and have noticed great differences so this real world test is very much appreciated. I had 2017 Tesla MX 100D with FSD and 2018 Performance M3 with FSD. Both did some very scary things and always caused my spouse great frustration and say, "what did you do?" I now have Genesis 2023 electrified G80 and a 2024 Kia EV9 GT, both had the same assistance system, HDA2 but the Kia EV9 seems to perform better. I was disappointed to see Macan 4S has only 288 mile EPA rating when the dealer told me it should be 360 miles so I'm still considering a different EV. Looking forward to your range test results of the Turbo since it has the same 288 mile EPA rating as the 4S. Thank you for all you do.

There might be some sort of EU or UN regulation that limits the maximum lateral acceleration of the steering assistant to 3 m/s^2 or to roughly 0.3g. That would explain why the steering assist always disengages the moment the accelerometer in the dashs shows 0.3g in corners.

What I didn't see in the test was automatic speed reduction in curves. It should do that, but maybe it only does it, when in car navigation is engaged. Or it can be activated/deactivated in the system. Some corners it wasn't able to do should be possible with it engaged. Similar to Q8 e-tron it does curve speed reduction, roundabouts and not like e-tron right of way. Also, maybe it's not available in the US. It's listed in the press release in Germany. "The system also reacts proactively to speed limits, curves, Roundabouts, right-of-way rules and bottlenecks. The system links online Navigation data as well as information from the vehicle's cameras and sensors and available Connect services. This will show the route ahead and the Traffic transferred into a high-resolution real-time model. On well-developed country roads and motorways, the system takes over lane guidance in traffic jams continuous steering intervention - even in construction and narrow areas. The system recognizes Lane markings and vehicles ahead in your own lane and the Neighboring lane automatically."

Oak Green looks suspiciously like British Racing Green. I looked them both up on colour charts. Virtually indistinguishable on a TV/Monitor. Out of Spec - good video, as per usual. EDIT: Really good Driver Assist system for a VW Group vehicle. I've always been astounded that certain systems just disengage. Like, what is the worst thing that the car could do when the driver goes unresponsive? I guess the involved companies don't want to appear liable. Though, on reasonably ordinary steering round bends, why can't VW vehicles hold the line? My ID3 is exactly the same.

I feel like emergency situation handling should be a separate score. When it's unified in one scoring system, you could have a system with terrible ping-ponging, lane jumping, disengaging systems that overall scored really well because it, when the system works and when you're unconscious, pulls over, honks, calls emergency services, etc. As wonderful as the emergency systems are, if the ADAS system is going to be bouncing over lane lines, i wouldn't use it in the first place

@@pine111 fair point, the HDA in Hyundai does not anticipate unconscious or incapacitated drivers...neither do the safety systems in the great majority of driving systems in service now or any before the last ten years. It's a great feature, and should be implemented across the board. Are all other cars worthless that never had that safety feature? What about seizures where the driver is still holding the wheel, what about a situation where the driver is left draped over the wheel? Few systems anticipated or appropriately mitigate any and all potentialities. If that single feature is your red line, great. Personally I look at the totality of the system and the overall performance of what I have to likely deal with. I am no Genesis Fanboy, just an electrical engineer that likes to look at control systems realistically.
