@twobarsfourstars9 ай бұрын
John is right that being a prisoner of now is killing businesses and trickle down hurting the rest of us, and David just laughs at it like he's not responsible for his actions and it's the market's fault while making no detailed argument for why short sighted thinking is exclusively better for business. John has experience making long term deals that paid off huge in the end. If those deals would not have survived the short sighted mindset David is representing here then that short sightedness would have been bad business. How is that so hard, or antithetical to being a "businessman" to admit? We're in a time where businesses are buying businesses to benefit from running them into the ground. Arguing that short sightedness is best for us all because it's "good business" is saying you have no stake in the world you live in or its future, or that you see yourself as above its impact and consequences. That short sightedness is hurting us right now in big ways. Love the moment where David admits he's still negotiating with John, the three of you are great together and love the show. Thank you for doing this!

👏👏👏 exactly so well put!!! I agree there’s a price not too pay at somepoint. But what you and him just said are exactly what causes capitalism to fail! Think about the long term sustainability vs. constant high risk decisions that only benefit the shareholders & senior executives.

David says EJ isn't super important, which means he doesn't watch when Adam Lefkoe hosts. The Tuesday show is terrible and even when Lefkoe hosts with OG crew, it just isn't the same. It amazes me how often EJ takes a good segment and elevates it to a classic just with a joke or something insightful.

The problem with Amazon is they don't understand the user experience when it comes to watching sports. Do some people watch sports on Amazon Prime? Sure. Has it been enough to get a return on their Thursday night football investment? NO. The reason why people tune INTO TNT and ESPN for sports is because people are already on there watching regularly scheduled programming and during that programming commercials and promos in commercial slots talking about upcoming sporting events organically flows through. People just aren't firing up an app on a device or TV to watch a live sports event unless it was some kind of PPV type thing. Amazon scoops up the NBA, no one's tuning in. Amazon is just not live TV top of mind with with the average consumer.

David argues that cutting cable doesn’t save customers money because it costs just as much to patch together subscription services to access the same content. While true, this falsely assumes that customers are unwilling to watch and care about fewer sports. We just cut the cord and saved well north of $150 a month. Are we going to subscribe to ESPN+ and all of these other things to retain access to what we had before? No. We will watch whatever is on and invest interest in that? Yes. The hard pill to swallow is that there is too much content. You know what I will feel when I can’t watch baseball or all of the NBA playoff games? Happy I saved $150 a month. [And no, people who have little or no savings are generally not in that boat because of excessive potato chip consumption.]

The contracts of Shaq, Charles, and Kenny will have almost no effect on whether TNT will keep the NBA rights. Those contracts (and the 90 minute Inside the NBA) only help TNT keep NBA viewers after the game so they can charge more in ads because they have more eyeballs. And Adam Silver couldn't care less, much like Roger Goodell doesn't care that there was a SS and two head coaches on NBC's Sunday Night Football.
