It is always sad when you see old buildings with character being demolished. All new builds look he same. Inside with all the modern facilities they look good. If they can be renovated then great. This one was clearly going to be more cost effective by destroying. I guess the new houses/hotel/flats or what ever will take it's place will keep the hotels name (hopefully) However sadly, it is one of many and more to come, losses of past times as we knew it . Not only for Blackpool, all over. Great timing for this one! Well Done!

This would have been unthinkable only 20 years ago, but several hotels up at South Shore have suffered a similar fate. Changing social patterns, foreign holidays and easy access to Blackpool have meant that most families no longer spend a week or two at the seaside as in the past. Blackpool has suffered as a consequence, which is very sad, especially when one has sen the resort in its heyday. The Ambassador Hotel was probably in its prime during the 1930s and the following decades until the 1980s.

There's one scaffolding company here in Vienna that had a few embarassing accidents in the past 20 years or so. Twice scaffolding came down in storms, damaging cars and houses on the other side of the street and once they had to take everything down because it was leaning away from the house more and more. I'd usually change my route on windy days if I saw any signs of that contractor!

It's gonna take some real skill and luck not to damage the Rutland next door, alot of the work to ensure damage isn't caused(cutting girders and roof supports) is normally done before demolition starts to take place but obviously that hasn't been possible here. When I mentioned about the Ambassador to my parents, my mother said her and my father had stayed there, she checked through her old diaries and found that it was 2007, she remembers thinking that it was very run down then. She also said the receptionist told them there was a lift, but it was at the back of the hotel. I'm guessing that a totally inappropriate building will replace it. I assume from the number of vlogs on You Tube yesterday, there must have been quite a line of people with cameras filming the Ambassador, though you still seem to be the only one posting every day, and are still the best.
