Amber and Earl are homeless living on the streets. Today they happened to be traveling through Denver, Colorado, which is where we met.
Amber has been homeless for 4 years now, ever since the day she turned 18. Earl says his first taste of homelessness was at 16. But that he was "straight up" homeless by 17.
Most of us walk by kids that look like Amber and Earl. But they are real people just like you and me. Most street kids were deprived of a normal family life. Most escape with drugs. The streets become home. It is very sad.

His wishes were so humble and unexpected. Have safety, not be hungry, and hope for kindness. Wow.

Prima Murdock those are all the wishes that could help them get off the streets because of constantly having to fear for you life everyday can be distracting you from your true goal same with being hungry if you’re fed you can focus more on the goal and with kindness is from other people to give them a chance That’s how I thought of it

Whether struggling from addictions or not...they are homeless..and sure they came from torn backgrounds...but notice they didn’t wish for money or materialistic things like so many would...although happy living on the fringes of society..they are happy..and what they wished for is to stay happy and safe...and for others to acknowledge they are people to.just because they don’t have a car.or live in a house..living by that traditional norms of what society thinks they should...they are living none the less..exploring and seeing parts of the world that most people only see in movies or dare dream about..been homeless myself and struggled with addiction..7 years clean and have a “normal” life again...never say never.because one day you could be sitting right there with them..wishing for the same things.

When i was in Denver i saw so many young homeless people. One kid who couldnt have been older than 15 asked me for change. And i asked him.... “where are your parents man? Isnt someone looking for you?” And he just said “i havent seen my family in years.” My heartbroke. I couldnt imagine having no one who cares for you at that age. I immediately called my parents and thanked them for always looking out for and loving me. I could have easily been a homeless teenager had i been born to people who didnt care.

Addicts aren’t to blame for being addicted, this isn’t that great of advice. They are suffering/slowly dying. No one asks for that or should be blamed for it. The thing that could help a lot more is the general public educating themselves on how addiction works (TL;DR addiction is a mental health problem, not a “just get sober” problem, that advice works for some people, not most, though. It’s ok to get help if you need it, but most places in the US only help those who can afford it)

ld11112 how can you say that about a human life. They were from broken homes, with bad parents and a bad livelihood... if they're parents do not care for them should we all look away from people with no homes? How about orphans? Your way of thinking is the most worthless of all. I hope one day you know what it's like to have nothing, be without family, money, love, or even a roof over your head. I think you are a person that needs to experience this kind of suffering. You have so much yet, you can't open your eyes for those who don't have anything at all. Not even socks. I hope that when that day comes, someone tries to help you. And then you will understand how to be a good human being. Suffering is for everyone. But so is compassion.

@@ane3647 I asked him but okay. Hi. 👋 Welcome. Anyway, He would have had to have gone homeless in the earlier parts of the pandemic for any of this to make sense. In which case that means this “business” flopped in the first month or two so bad that he ended up living on the streets? Probably was not doing very good business if that were the case anyway, honestly. But regardless I doubt it. Let’s be real he prolly got a nice job and squandered all of his money didn’t save a penny and got caught with his pants down. If you 💀 make that bread and go homeless in a month unless you literally just got your first paycheck or some shit and then got immediately laid off in which case why bring it up anyway it just shows a lot of personal irresponsibility. My man was flexing too hard for his own good. Best case scenario my man just pumped out like 8 kids and is supporting them all in which case God Bless. Deadass you a 🐐. But realistically he got an expensive car, paid too high rent and spent 200$ a week at the bar on a Friday alone. Honestly tho more I think about it I think it’s a cap . 🧢 It doesn’t even make a lot of sense. But that’s why I asked him.

I got kicked out at 17 around the same time my friend's mom abandoned him and his younger brother, she moved to Nicaragua with some guy. We were able to live at his house until the landlord figured us out (I guess he wasn't getting paid rent and eventually came by). We moved into our friend Andy's basement because his dad was never home and when he would go to work me and Joel would come up from the basement and hang out in the house. I didn't have a car and neither did Joel but Andy would drive us to school and pick us up everyday (Andy had dropped out). He would also take me to and from work so I could save up some money to get a car. I managed to graduate and so did Joel. I joined the Navy after high school.

It amazes me how many houseless people that I met along they way were really nice people with a great heart. I love how they always wish for others with their 3 wishes, peace...people not to be judgemental of each other, love and no war or poverty. LOVER OF YHVH 420 That's the thing that makes me mad. People assume that if you're homeless it's because you're lazy and don't want to work, and that if you escape it, it's because you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps and got a job. Actually, a lot of people end up in this situation because they have no support system. That means no parents, no spouse, etc. Think about it: how are you supposed to buy food, pay ridiculously high rent, utilities, phone bill, transportation costs and buy hygeinic products when you're single, barely reaching adulthood and making $12-1300 a month? And doing that while trying to get an expensive education? It's basically impossible on your own. People take for granted the people in their lives and then just assume others are bad or lazy or wrong when they don't succeed. Not everyone has the privelidge of support. I'm glad to see someone who has understanding for people. I'm also glad you met a woman who made your situation better.

Great to see you got out of homelessness. But a warning; don't blame the rich for poverty. Rich wealthy people are either self made or were born wealthy because one of their ancestors was self made, but they don't make people homeless. Government does. In Cali the richest guy living there is Zuckemberge, he did not make anyone poor by making facebook, the opposite he made many jobs and many families eat thanks to him. BUT many times i have seen people blame rich people, and when they do this in mass the government [for votes] takes wealthy peoples money, leading many to leave along with their businesses, result; those families who survived thanks to them are now homeless and have no job. Venezuela and Cuba did this. They blamed rich people, so now political pressure led the wealth creators [rich people] to leave, leaving a lot of poverty and homelessness. Rich people are good for the economy not bad
