I think it's important to point out that at this time in their career none of them could read music! They each were self taught on their instruments. Ring set up his drum kit like he saw all of the other drummers because he didn't' know any better. Ringo is left handed but set up his kit like a right handed player. This though makes his drumming very unique and worked out well for him. They would write down the lyric but had to remember what chords they played by muscle memory. Repetition. Remarkable!

These sweet thoughts you are sharing with all of your subscribers make all of your reaction videos so worth watching them... no matter what song or band you are listening to. This song has all the elements you described, but it's also about cheating on someone (at least emotionally) in the sense of saying: "if you say you want me then I'll leave her and make her cry ... otherwise I'll stay with her." At least that's what I got from the lyrics. Not exactly the most virtuous of sentiments. But it's certainly a pretty song, at least melodically.

Although John Lennon, who wrote most of the song, called it a ballad, the slightly faster than usual pace and Ringo's steady drumming imbue this with the feeling of something else. That is characteristic of many Beatles songs, to be different in some subtle way from whatever else was hitting the airwaves at the time. In this song in particular, the harmony of those two sweet but still male voices resonated with every high school girl while expressing the feelings of every high school boy who had neither the nerve nor the eloquence to say them out loud. American 'white' Rock and Roll was in trouble at the time. Motown was doing fine and Country/Western was making serious inroads into the mainstream. But with few exceptions, 'white' R&R was dying. The Twist, doowop revival and car/surfer songs had had their day. The British Invasion spearheaded by the Fab Four cleared all that away, allowing entirely new influences to make their way into the music scene on this side of the Atlantic. Unless you lived in that era as I did, it is difficult to understand the impact the Beatles made on music and elsewhere. They were fresh voices, talented above the norm vocally, instrumentally and in songwriting. They were both drivers and emblems of the changes going on in the psyches of the young.

lol....the lyrics to this song are terrible. First off, he wants the girl to promise to fall in love with him more than the first girl and then he wants the the first girl to cry when she finds out. Dude, get it together. Don't need anything from the second girl. Maybe that's what got you in trouble the first time. Just get to know the girl and don't fall in love until you just can't help it. If she breaks your heart, wish her luck and look for the next adventure. lol

@@kitoyobeni1 I think the lyrics are great. I think it's an honest view of the way many people think at the end of relationships. A lot of people want their ex to cry when they see them with another lover. It's a great juxtaposition, especially with the melody. I'm pretty sure Lennon saw the humor in it, they laughed quite often when playing the song live.
