Ambulance Camper | Acoustic Panelling & Infrared Heating

In episode 4, the van starts to take shape. Using simple tongue and groove cladding for the walls and creating cheap acoustic panelling for the ceiling Max McMurdo completely transformations the ambulance into a camper. He also adds some innovative heating technology to keep it warm and green.

Paint your tongue and grove before you assemble it because if you paint it after it is up when it shrinks, which it will, you will see the bare timber in the cracks.

On the wooden panels you could have used Clips, or even used a wall panel, Light weight, and comes in great colours, Sam's Trade Centre has them, at first I thought too much wood, as but as your done the ceiling and walls now, its looking really good, a nice bit of stain and that will transform it even more, Be interesting to see what you do with any wiring for lights, its coming on great.. Well done.

I still can’t get my head around how this infrared stuff works. How much leisure battery power does it use per hour, say, when the heating’s on in the van? Can you control the temperature? And can it stay on a low temperature all night when it’s really cold? Also, I note that you have no overhead cabinets so the infrared can send its heat straight down. Presumably you’d have to put just one strip of the infrared cloth down the centre of the van if you had upper cabinets either side? And would one strip be enough?

I have a Sprinter Ambulance similar to yours that I'm converting, with drilling the wood straight into the walls, how far approximately did you drill into the wall? I'm unable to find out from the vehicle coach builder how thick the walls are.

Hi! Nice conversion! Wanted to ask how was your real life experience with infrared ceiling heating? Is it worth it? Can it keep the inside warm in say 7-10 degrees C outside? Thanks!
