Most of the AI boom is just stupid overpriced stock shares that have no real value and will eventually come crashing down like all the other next big trends have over the past three decades. These next big trends have always been a bubble that's bound to burst at some point. Most people are just using AI and buying AI stocks simply because they want to keep with the latest trend. It's called FOMO. Fear of Missing Out. It's so stupid. AI is getting way overhyped, and it's a buzzword at this point. If the AI bubble bursts, the demand for data centre chips would plummet. That would negatively affect Nvidia's data centre segment, which is now their biggest business. If the demand permanently plummets for this AI crap, it would be a brilliant thing for gamers.
@-yttrium-118713 күн бұрын
Most startups fail regardless of viability. These startups are willing to buy Nvidia/AMD AI chips therefore at least Nvidia/AMD is making money. Its still a win for us consumers since we're now getting asics for AI without the need of expensive FP ops to train on.

There is a lot of venture capital, basically rich people pumping money into hype in hopes of returns. But there are lots of legit use cases for AI technologies like anomaly detection in cyber security or just detecting empty store shelves to get staff to restock them. The actual productivity of AI is somewhere between what gamers think and what NVIDIA gets paid.
@Dragonlord82612 күн бұрын
@zeemon9623 don't get me wrong I know AI has a lot of productive use, but the actual income made by Nvidia seems disproportionate. I'm assuming it'll drop maybe 10% soon as AI start ups realize the actual returns are shit so they stop buying. But bigger companies using them for observation will keep buying as they get better.

I keep telling people, dont trust just one company, stop being loyal to one organization when they could care less about u. Buy what makes you happy, dont buy what you dont need or like, ull regret your purchases for the length of time u own them. I instead use a 13600K for this reason, Ive been pretty comfortable with the 13600K ive been using for a little over 2 years now, yes ik, the vid tables issue and the lack of longevity, but its been pretty good with some customizations to the bios. I chose this cpu bc ever since amd started their x3d projects, their cpus stoped lasting past 5 years at most, i used to own a 3700X, and that still worked before i upgraded to a 5800X(non-3d), however once i upgraded to the 5800X it only lasted about 2.5 years till it couldnt even boot windows, it was sudden and without signs of damage to the cpu, i dont buy cpus to constantly buy replacements, or upgrade bc the newest game came out. This reason is why i stopped shilling for a single company, and only buy what makes me happy, customers dont represent a single company, the company does, stop shooting yourself in the foot both financially and socially, and be productive financially and socially for your own sake, rather than be a part of the same echo chamber...

All AMD needs to do is make the RX 8800 XT the speed of an RTX 5070 at $500 with 16GB of VRAM. And, release it before the 50 Series so that Nvidia doesn't price the 5070 at $800.

People will still buy nvidia's gpu.
@lsnexus208013 күн бұрын
That way nvidia will price the gpu lower probably 550 to 600 and people will go nvidia with 100 more for sure.

Those 1,000 AMD employees were found to be "excess to need" thanks to the productivity gains enabled by AI.

If anything, they need to make sure ATi Radeon GPU divison that they bought to get as much resources for research and development as Nvidia since they solely focus on GPU`s This is like them giving up because Bulldozer FX CPU`s sucked and therefore choosing not to do Ryzen....

If AMD thinks they’re going to be making a bunch of money selling gaming GPUs then those people should’ve been laid off
@Richard_T80010 күн бұрын
If your average gamer would actually look at the different hardware available and compare them instead of just picking NVIDIA, AMD would have better sales. Most Graphics Cards that see use for gaming are NVIDIA's. The amount of people that don't inform themselves is astonishing and people talk big time about NVIDIA and get their graphics cards hyped. All of them know that the 4090 is the top end NVIDIA card but if you ask them what the top end AMD card is they wont have a clue. The problem are the consumers that don't buy enough AMD and AMD sees no reason in investing into the gaming market if NVIDIA dominates this much and AMD doesn't get many sales

Gaming hardware will go the way of the dodo, it will end up as a software solution (cloud gaming) charged by the hour or on a subscription model.
@AMDFan-s1y13 күн бұрын
Nope. People don't want to pay a subscription just to game.
@heavymetalman16513 күн бұрын
@AMDFan-s1y they will when its the only valid option after being priced out of the market on hardware and a decade after its inception its normalised.

Does the market need a dozen different "EXPENSIVE" handheld gaming devices??
@abbottshaull983112 күн бұрын
I agree there are already enough handhelds out there, and I am sure Sony will come out with it next version soon. Microsoft is going in the right direction in making an App that will play XBOX games on handhelds.

Screw that computer industry! Gamers and enthusiastic groups made them grow for decades and what do we get in return? They stopped caring about us since crypto mining started. Gaming is growing each year for more than 20 years and they are not interested. Each of my computers that I usually buy costs in total like family vacation for the 2 weeks abroad. If hardware and software gets stagnant we can also lose interest in buying hardware and let this idustry die slowly. We dont need computers, we have very capable computers in our pockets already.

So more AI news. Last time I used AI was to put my RP OC in anime form and everything I asked for came out awful.

I prefer NVidia, but AMD withdrawal from high-end segment of GPU market will be abysmal for all of us. Just look at the last Gen. Thanks to AMD the "S" series were brought dow to Earth more or less. But since 4090 had no alternative - we didn't get neither the "S" version, neither the drop in the price, I'd say the price even went up. This is not good. At all.

The issue I have with Temu is they ask to enter your ID to purchase from them. I don't like giving my ID to purchase things. I don't trust Temu, I mean not even amazon asks me to give my ID to purchase something.
